My experience with ADHD

      My son Cody was officially diagnosed with ADHD just prior to his 3rd birthday. In a sense, it was a such a relief to find out why he had been acting, in my opinion, like such a little monster. Cody was my first child and I was honestly beginning to believe that I was sadly lacking in the parenting department. He wouldn't listen to anything I said, wether it was a simple direction, like "The ball is under the table, go get it" or telling him "NO" about something. I seemed to always be repeating myself. He would throw terrible tantrums and did the opposite of anything I said. About this time, I had enlisted the help of a Behavioral Specialist, I didn't know what else to do.

      He had already been diagosed with Epilepisy (at 21m) and Development Delays so he was already in a special school. It was the school that suggested I speak with the Neurologist about the possibility of ADHD. Our Dr. agreed and officially diagnosed Cody and prescribed Ritalin. The meds seemed to really make a big difference. We still have our problems, but they don't seem to be as intense.

      The Story of Fidgety Philip
      "Let me see if Philip can

      Be a little gentleman;

      Let me see if he is able

      To sit still for once at the table."

      Thus papa bade Phil behave;

      and mama looked very grave.

      But Fidgety Phil,

      he won't sit still;

      He wiggles,

      And then, I declare,

      Swings backwards and forwards,

      And tilts up his chair,

      Just like any rocking horse-

      "Philip! I am getting cross!"

      See the naughty, restless child

      Growing still more rude and wild,

      Till his chair falls over quite.

      Philip screams with all his might,

      Catches at the cloth, but then

      That makes matters worse again.

      Down upon the ground they fall,

      Glasses, plates, knives, forks and all.

      How mama did fret and frown,

      When she saw them tumbling down!

      And papa made such a face!

      Philip is in sad disgrace.........
