First, I would like to tell you a little bit about my father. He was the most loving and caring person you could ever meet. He love the outdoors, getting in his truck and just riding around seeing new places and doing new things. But the one thing I remember the most about my father was him sitting in the yard under the shade tree listening to his bluegrass music. He was so set on his old fashion ways. I remember my mother telling me if my father had it his way, she would be scooping water from a stream and using an outhouse... (LOL)  I guess you could call my father a old country boy.
Well it  started in April 2004
when my father went to the doctor for his yearly physical, that was something he always made sure he did. The doctor wanted to do a colonoscopy since my father hadn't had one in 2 years.
On April 17th the day before my fathers 62nd birthday we received the worse news ever, He had colon cancer and more test needed to be done.
The doctor refered him to a cancer center in our area and they could provide all the test and treatments he needed. My father had more test ran and we received more bad news, The cancer had already spread to his liver. The doctor said they could do radation for the colon and cemo for his liver, But surgery was out of the question since the cancer was on the liver.
My father really liked his doctor since he was a cancer survivor himself and has been in remission for 12 years. This doctor understood what the patients and the family go through.
Well as the months went by, he'd been going through treatments, The radation seem to work on the colon, the chemo had taken a toll on his body, He had good days and bad days, but my father always found the strength to work and provide for his family.
The doctors ran some test to see if the chemo was working and more bad news. The cancer had spread to his lungs and bigger on his liver.
In July 2005
the doctor decided to try a different chemo since all the others weren't working. My father was the kind of person he was determine to beat this battle with cancer, So he decided to try this new chemo. He took 2 treatments and we could see it was hurting him more then helping him,
He lost 20 pounds in 10 days, I could see there was something wrong with him, everyday he got worse.
On July 30th 2005 we had to call the rescue squad. He was so sick he couldn't walk or even talk. When the permedics arrived they couldn't get a paulse or blood pressure. When he arrived at the hospital he was placed in ICU, His kidneys were almost shut down, they told us he had a 50/50 chance. My father had a reaction to the chemo and a infection in his body.
My father was so sick they didn't know if he could pull thru it. We stayed at his bedside and prayed, hoping he could be strong enough to fight this, It was the most terrable felling in the world to sit there and watch my father die.
He spent 9 days in the hospital and with many prayers he was able to get his strengh and come back home to us.
I felt so blessed that I was givin another opportunity to spend more time with my father, But after he had the reaction to the chemo, he never really recoved from that.
Well it's been 3 months to the day he was hospitalized and winter has started to settle in, he has continue to get worse.
On November 30,2005
the doctors gave him 4 to 8 weeks. They decided to stop all treatments since there was no more they could do. You could see the yellow in his skin and eyes from the liver shuting down
December 21, 2005
He went to the doctor for a vitaman shot and the doctors told the family that he gave him 2 weeks. My poor father was still working. His legs, feet, stomach were swelling so bad he had to have help getting him to the truck. He was so bull headed, But he wanted to work and no one could stop him. He only worked a block from home and he sat at desk all day. I really think him working did him alot of good. He always had someone with him at the shop (work) so he was never alone and my mother would look out for him to come home to help him in the house.
Christmas Eve was the last day my father was able to work, his body just couldn't do it anymore.
My mother wanted Christmas to be very special for my father since we knew this would be his last one. We had the whole family over for a delicious fest. We had so much food we didn't know what to do with all of it. My father ate so much food that day and had so many nice gifts given to him, He just cryed.
On Januray 4th
we had hospic bring in a bed for him because he starting to have a hard time breathing since his liver was so enlarged and that way we could sit him up.
The next day my father stated to make the turn for the worst.
(This is going to be the hardest part for me to write)
But my father's wish was to die at home and my mother did just that.
All of us stayed with her to help. Hospic would come in and checked on him and bring in meds that we needed to care for him, but other than that we did all of the care since that's what my father wanted.
I do have to give a big thank you to hospic, They are living angels
For 5 days we had to sit and watch my my suffer in pain, knowing there was nothing we could do.
My heart was being ripped right of my chest. I got to the point I asked God to please take him so I didn't have to watch it anymore.
Surrounded by his family, we watched him take his last breath.
He went so peacefully in the end. I know he's in a better place now, No more pain.
I'm know he's up there dancing in the clouds living and enjoying life like he always did.

I Love You Daddy
