3/1998 -- The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ

Bill Bellamy may now be known as one of the stars of the now defunct show Fastlane, co-starring Peter Facinelli, but back in 1998 Bill was an up and coming comedian, and his comedic stylings later landed him a job at MTV as a VJ.  Boy, was he one of the funniest VJs on MTV.  The boy was crazy, and his funny personality eventually made him one of the more popular VJs. Even though he did enjoy hosting on MTV and interviewing top musical acts like Janet Jackson, Bill Bellamy never forgot his comedic roots and still performed stand-up comedy.  My friends and I were really surprised to hear that out of all the schools around, Bill Bellamy was going to come to our little school to do a show!  Everyone was excited!  Especially me because Bill was one of my favorite VJs.  I knew I had to meet him.  The day before the show, while taking a break from studying for my maternity course, I drew this portrait of Bill.

The day of the show, we somehow ended up with close to front-row seats.  After the opening act warmed up the audience, Bill came on!  He was just like his MTV VJ persona....crazy!  Everybody was cracking up non-stop.  Unfortunately I don't remember much about the show (my memory in my old age is seriously lacking....btw, in case you'reBill Bellamy wondering, I'm only 26 :) ), but I do remember that I was not bored one second.  The guy really knew how to entertain.  When he was finished, the whole audience gave him a long standing ovation!  He really deserved it for putting on a kick-ass show!

Afterwards, I convinced my friends that we had a chance of meeting him. Of course I had now clue how to meet Bill, but at least my friends were tagging along.  We walked around the concert hall until we got to the back door where there were a TON of people waiting.  They told us that this was where Bill was supposed to pass through to get to his limo.  Joining the other excited fans, I waited there too.  My friends didn't want to be around the gigantic crowd, so they waited by a side entrance.  After about a half an hour, I hear my friend squeal.  I look over, and there she is hugging Bill Bellamy!  Darn that girl! :)

At that moment, everybody else noticed her hugging him too, and the fan mob hurried over to the side entrance.  The next thing I know, the scene turns into a fan frenzy.  People are snapping photos, begging for autographs, jumping next to Bill for the perfect photo op.  All the meanwhile, Bill was really laid back and didn't seem intimidated or annoyed by the whole situation.  In fact, he seemed to be enjoying it!  Finally, after 15 minutes of this, I gathered up all my courage, tapped Bill on the shoulder and shyly asked "Can you sign this please?"

Bill took one look and gave me the biggest smile.  He then said "Oh wow! (gesturing to his friend) Take a look at this!  She drew a portrait of me!"  He signed it, and then said "Thank you very much!  That's a real nice drawing!  Thank you!"  I gave him a shy "Thanks" back to him, and we left.  Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of our meeting, but I'll always remember meeting one of the nicest comedians/celebrities out there.  Thanks again Bill!
