Unfortunately, again, I experienced further problems with my internet connection and OpenRPG during the second session, so the first portion of this log was lost. The group had encountered a half-elven ronin who attacked them, while travelling on the road. More details will be in the Campaign Overview section of the website at some point... (24) DM Arkhandus: Your turn. ** (23) Kakita Masato lunges forward and attempts to come through the elven ronin's defenses with a slash of his blade. ** (23) Kakita Masato: Katana: [1d20+5] -> [9,5] = (14) (24) DM Arkhandus: By the way, since Nerfereti grabbed him with her spell, his katana seems to sag every so slightly in his grip, though he still manages to hold onto it (23) Kakita Masato: Damage: [1d10+2] -> [8,2] = (10) (24) DM Arkhandus: Masato's slash just barely manages to strike the ronin's arm, and seemingly strikes an artery. (24) DM Arkhandus: The elf drops, blood gushing from his right elbow from the almost-miss (24) DM Arkhandus: He fades into unconsciousness.... ** (8) Kiran relaxes slightly. ** (24) DM Arkhandus: THough you still have to decide what to do with the fallen ronin, he's not quite dead yet (24) DM Arkhandus: *************END COMBAT************** (8) Kiran: "That was odd behaviour.: ** (23) Kakita Masato disarms him and waits for an explanation. ** (24) DM Arkhandus: You can only guess at this point why the ronin attacked...... (21) Daidoji Satoru: "Very." (24) DM Arkhandus: But he lacks any signs of affiliation upon his person, wearing just plain clothes of gray and black, though of fine quality. (8) Kiran: "Do you suppose he will bleed to death?" ** (21) Daidoji Satoru sheaths his swords then turns back to his horse ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Now you can see that he looks fairly elven, but with slightly rougher features than most elves, probably a half-elf. ** (4) Kai Lyn shifts to her weasel form and climbs aboard the horse again ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Blood still gushes from his almost-severed elbow....... ** (21) Daidoji Satoru pauses to claim the elf's swords before mounting his horse ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Will you heal the fallen ronin enough to question him, or finish him off, or just leave him to bleed to death for attacking you without provocation? (24) DM Arkhandus: His katana is slightly spattered with blood from when his elbow was cut, but is otherwise in fine shape. (24) DM Arkhandus: The daisho and their scabbards seem of good quality, so he may be a nobleman - or may have been, previously. (21) Daidoji Satoru: He only has a katana then? (24) DM Arkhandus: You can attempt to identify his clan by the markings upon the scabbard of his daisho, if you like (21) Daidoji Satoru: ((they're mine now. :] )) (24) DM Arkhandus: No, he has daisho, a paired katana and wakizashi ** (21) Daidoji Satoru will do that ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Though he only drew the katana; the wakizashi's still in its scabbard (24) DM Arkhandus: Attempt a Knowledge (nobility and royalty) check, if you have any ranks in the skill (8) Kiran: "No bandit I know of would attack against such odds. Perhaps he is under some compulsion..." (24) DM Arkhandus: You fail to discern anything about his clan just by his daisho, unfortunately. (24) DM Arkhandus: Well, the ronin lays before you all, bleeding to death.......is that it? (24) DM Arkhandus: the blood seems to be flowing more slowly now...... (8) Kiran: "If we want, the spirits here are willing to heal this man..." ** (4) Kai Lyn studies this poor man a tear rolls from her eye ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti frowns, and says "I wonder why this man attacked us for no reason.........." ** (21) Daidoji Satoru secures the daisho and watches ** (8) Kiran: "Or not... It seams it will not matter in but a few moments anyway" ** (8) Kiran shrugs indifferently ** ** (21) Daidoji Satoru points at one of the servants. "Bind the ronin and bring him." ** (8) Kiran: "His body will slow us down, Saturo-San" (24) DM Arkhandus: Ahem, the ronin is bleeding to death you know...... ** (8) Kiran nods deeply as he says this ** (21) Daidoji Satoru: "My prerogative." ** (8) Kiran nods again and says nothing more ** ** (29) Bayushi Shujo frowns "Do not touch his body. Finish him so he can join what ancestors he has and let's keep moving" ** (21) Daidoji Satoru: "Dead ronin don't talk." (24) DM Arkhandus: Aaaannnnnddddddd..........I'm sorry, but I can't give you five or ten minutes to discuss as the man dies, so he is now dead.......the blood ceases to flow forth from his elbow (24) DM Arkhandus: He has passed on (29) Bayushi Shujo: "A rather dishonourable death, but may his soul return to the cycle" (24) DM Arkhandus: For now, you have his daisho, which Satoru plucked from the ground. ** (29) Bayushi Shujo steers his horse around and moves it foreward ** ** (8) Kiran says a quick prayer to the spirits to quickly guide his soul to peace, and nudges his horse after Shujo ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Do you wish for your eta servant to searcfh the corpse for valuables or anything? Kaneka provided you with several heimin and eta servants for distasteful duties........ (24) DM Arkhandus: So, you begin to ride on. You leave behind the corpse of the strange half-elf ronin who had attacked you, and you continue onward towards the village Kita Chushin. (24) DM Arkhandus: Aye, you will be able to reach the village before nightfall (24) DM Arkhandus: You manage to reach the edges of Kita Chushin without any other interruptions, as the moon Hitomi is rising in the sky and dusk begins to give way to night. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru looks around for a place to stay the night ** ** (8) Kiran keeps his wolf companion close by ** (24) DM Arkhandus: You enter the town as villagers go about closing up shops, putting away wares and produce from the farms, and generally going home and closing up. A few braziers and torches remain lit within the village. ** (8) Kiran looks about, as always interested by just how different human construction looks from Vanaran ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru looks around for a place to stay the night ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Satoru finds a small inn after a little searching. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru steps inside the inn and looks around ** (24) DM Arkhandus: It seems respectable enough, with accomodations for honored guests such as yourselves. ** (23) Kakita Masato dismounts and walks into the inn. ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru acquires several rooms ** (24) DM Arkhandus: A heimin innkeeper greets you. "Konnichiwa, goodsir." The man bows. (30) Daidoji Satoru: "My companions and myself require a place to rest." ** (30) Daidoji Satoru is still dressed in courtier robes ** (30) Daidoji Satoru: ((with swords :] )) ** (4) Kai Lyn shifts to human form and Silverbolt rides on my shoulder ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The man smiles and bows again. "Ahh, yes samurai-sama, I will arrange as many rooms as you need to be prepared. I will have it done immediately." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Very well." ** (30) Daidoji Satoru stands and waits ** ** (29) Bayushi Shujo makes sure the horses are cared for and supervises the packign and gaurding of the supplies ** ** (23) Kakita Masato bids the servants to take the horses around to the stable and unpack for the night. ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The heimin scurries away and speaks with some servants, who begin preparing rooms for your party. The innkeeper returns after several minutes, and bows low again. "Your rooms are ready, sir." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Very good." (24) DM Arkhandus: One of the servants travelling with you approaches, bows, and then hands a few coins to the innkeeper, from the funds given by Akodo Kaneka. (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant then leaves and returns to his fellows, arranging for them to take care of the horses and pack animals. (24) DM Arkhandus: A servant approaches you and bows, saying "This way please." And then leads you to your rooms. ** (4) Kai Lyn follows the servant ** ** (8) Kiran follows, after the samurai ** ** (23) Kakita Masato addresses the innkeeper. ** (23) Kakita Masato: "Is there a tea house nearby?" (24) DM Arkhandus: From the innkeeper's quick service, he seems to have noticed you as samurai. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru gestures for the others to go ahead ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant replies "Oh, yes sir. Do you wish me to show you to it, samurai-sama?" (30) Daidoji Satoru: "And a bathhouse?" (23) Kakita Masato: "Please." (24) DM Arkhandus: "Aye, there is a bathhouse nearby as well." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Lead the way." ** (29) Bayushi Shujo decides ot head to the tea house and get something to clean his throat before heading for his bath ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant scurries away, waiting when necessary, for you to follow. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru goes to the tea house first ** ** (8) Kiran will not turn down the chance for decent food and drink... ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant leads you down the road a short ways to a modest teahouse. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru gives a nod of thanks before entering ** ** (29) Bayushi Shujo steps niside nad pulls both of his sword out of his obi nad hands them to the person at the door ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant bows and then asks your permission to return to the inn. ** (29) Bayushi Shujo steps in, subtly reminding the Daidoji to do so as well ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru hands over his pair of wakizashi ** ** (29) Bayushi Shujo moves to a table and sits down, waiting for a servant to bring the cubs and tea ** ** (4) Kai Lyn doesn't go with them for this character doesn't bathe in water ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru sits down next to Bayushi ** ** (23) Kakita Masato surrenders his katana but keeps his wakizashi. ** (24) DM Arkhandus: A servant comes to serve you, and asks what you would like. (29) Bayushi Shujo: "Kakita-sama, I believe you forgot to leave your -other- sword at hte door. I'm sure it was a slight oversight?" (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Sake and rice." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "And fish, also" (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant bows and asks "Will that be for all of you?" (29) Bayushi Shujo: "sake, for myself" ** (4) Kai Lyn asks "May I have some juice?" ** (24) DM Arkhandus: The servant leaves once everyone has ordered. ** (23) Kakita Masato orders tea and rice. ** (24) DM Arkhandus: When the servants return with your sake and meals, they try hard not to stare at the monkey-man with you, Kiran, but do a poor job of it. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru gives the servants a rather direct look ** (23) Kakita Masato: "The man on the road today. He looked at me most peculiar." (24) DM Arkhandus: They obviously have never seen a Vanara before, but when they notice your stare, they bow and leave hurriedly (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Would you happen to know what was the concern with the ronin we encountered today, Kakita-san?" ** (29) Bayushi Shujo deosn't do much in response, jsut pours himself a cup and takes a sip "Ah...good stuff.." ** ** (23) Kakita Masato drinks his tea very formally. ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru pours himself a cup then pauses to pray briefly before taking a sip ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru picks up a pair of chopsticks, rubs them together, then begins to eat. ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran, for his part, looks about curiously at the human teahouse, and the way the samurai and nobles present drink their tea rather ceremoniously....... (23) Kakita Masato: "His daisho, was there anything identifying to be found upon it?" (24) DM Arkhandus: He nibbles at his food and sips at his sake occasionally as he does so. (30) Daidoji Satoru: "I have not had a chance to look at it in detail. I could not tell from first glance, but the daisho was not his." ** (4) Kai Lyn eats a bit of the rice and sips her juice ** (30) Daidoji Satoru: "I will take some time to examine them later." (24) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti sips at her sake and eats her fish queitly, seemingly trying not to think too much about the strange enounter earlier in the day (23) Kakita Masato: "Stolen then? We should return it to it's rightful owners." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "I plan to. If we can." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "If the rightful owner still has family left alive." (30) Daidoji Satoru: ((alignment: lawful greedy :] )) (29) Bayushi Shujo: "I would be sure they do. Clans hardlly just vanish" (30) Daidoji Satoru: "True. It would be easier for me to locate the correct owner if I was at home." (23) Kakita Masato: "I feel sorry for the man. That he died in battle is all I can say of him." (24) DM Arkhandus: ((also, mind you that I had said you were unable to identify any affiliation based solely on the markings of the daisho alone] ** (30) Daidoji Satoru has some more fish ** ** (23) Kakita Masato continues to eat. ** (23) Kakita Masato: "Kai Lyn, I trust you are a sorcerer of some sort?" ** (4) Kai Lyn nods "Yes I am a sorceress." ** ** (29) Bayushi Shujo mutters somethign about Maho ** (23) Kakita Masato: "How did you come to be such, I mean, living in the wilderness as you did." ** (30) Daidoji Satoru cocks an eyebrow at Shujo and goes back to his dinner ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti narrows her eyes somewhat at Shujo and Masato, with them inquiring about sorcery...... (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Sorcery is an ingraned rather than a learned b (30) Daidoji Satoru: "form of magic." ** (29) Bayushi Shujo snorts ** ** (4) Kai Lyn says "For a time I stayed with a sorceress and she taught me what she knew." ** (24) DM Arkhandus: She eats more rapidly, finishing it quickly. (30) Daidoji Satoru: ((If I understand it correctly, anyways)) (23) Kakita Masato: "But surely one must learn to control it." (24) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti leaves the teahouse, paying for her own food before she leaves. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru smiles in amusement ** ** (29) Bayushi Shujo does as well, heading for the bathhouse ** ** (23) Kakita Masato watches Shujo leave. ** ** (4) Kai Lyn says "Yes it is difficult also for one like me who can change shape as it is natural." ** (23) Kakita Masato: "He is without manners." (24) DM Arkhandus: Shujo sees Nerfereti returning to the inn as he heads to the bathhouse. (30) Daidoji Satoru: "He is Scorpion, not Crane." ** (29) Bayushi Shujo stops for a mometn and thinks ot follow ** (30) Daidoji Satoru: "So some differences are to be expected." ** (4) Kai Lyn says "Can you tell me of these clans I know not of them." ** (23) Kakita Masato: "Be that as it may, he would do well to be polite in public." ** (30) Daidoji Satoru nods ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru refills his cup and gives Kai Lyn a brief description of the clans and their differences ** ** (4) Kai Lyn says "That is fascinating. I had heard of them but never explained to me." ** (23) Kakita Masato: "There are also many lesser clans. For instance Clan Tortoise hold influence in this village by selling it's exotic wares." (30) Daidoji Satoru: "Father will be pleased to know that my schooling wasn't a complete waste." (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran listens intently as Satoru describes Rokugan, sipping at his drink occasionally. ** (30) Daidoji Satoru inclines his head. "If you will pardon me, I wish to bathe before turning in for the night." ** (23) Kakita Masato: "I will be along shortly as well. Good night Satoru." ** (30) Daidoji Satoru rises to his feet, retrieves his swords, then heads for the bathhouse ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran says "What strange things humans do, making all these clans and such who don't even get along, and yet promoting honor and order........how strange......." ** (4) Kai Lyn says "Gentlemen I need to retire for I am tired. My grooming is more complicated than a simple bath. I will see you in the morning." ** (23) Kakita Masato nods to Kiran. "To you I'm sure it must be. Each Clan strives to be the best. In our quest for excellence, sometimes conflicts arise..." ** ** (23) Kakita Masato stands and bows to Kai Lyn. "Good night then." ** ** (30) Daidoji Satoru soaks in a hot bath, stops long enough to retrieve his armor, then has his clothes laundered (if someone's still up to do it, otherwise it can wait for morning) ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran waves goodbye to Satoru and Kai Lyn ** (4) Kai Lyn retires taking time to groom herself from nose to tail then retires herself ** (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran says "The Vanara just live in happy freedom, enjoying our forests and family.....we don't fight much with each other, or with outsiders......" (24) DM Arkhandus: "We just like to live..." (23) Kakita Masato: "It is a good life. Perhaps when this is over, you shall return to it." (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran smiles and finishes his food and drink. ** (23) Kakita Masato stands and pays for his meal. ** (23) Kakita Masato: "It is late. You should rest as we have a long day's travel ahead." (24) DM Arkhandus: Kiran leaves to go sleep at the inn, not thinking about paying as he is not used to the concept..... |
