Session 4 Log For 11-3-02

EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the log for the 4th session, November 3rd 2002. The session ran longer than it should have, and ended somewhat awkwardly as many people had to leave.
(1) DM Arkhandus: When we left off, the group was camping near the roadside in the plains between the palace of the Emerald Champion and Kaeru village
(1) DM Arkhandus: Four bandits had tried to sneak up on them earlier that day, and the party fought off the bandits
** (10) Kiran tends to his companion's wounds **
(1) DM Arkhandus: But it was a difficult battle, and both Masato and Shujo fell very near to death, barely revived in time. A servant now tends Shujo as the party breaks camp for the day, not quite having travelled as far as they would have wished to that day due to the severity of Masato's and Shujo's wounds
(10) Kiran: "Poor wolf, you fought bravely. I thank you."
(1) DM Arkhandus: As the day went on, the party chatted a bit amongst themselves as the servant tends Shujo's wounds, keeping the dying man stable but still not certain if it would be advisable to ride any further this day
** (10) Kiran notes that he has used all the power he has access to right now, to heal those who fell - and so has no more power to give **
** (7) Masato summons up his strength to keep from wobbling atop his horse. **
(1) DM Arkhandus: For the rest of the day, you rest and chat, allowing time for Masato and Shujo to heal a little bit so that you can ride on the next day
** (10) Kiran unconsciously keeps on the far side of camp from wherever Nefereti happens to be **
(10) Kiran: Heal: [1d20+4+4] -> [8,4,4] = (16)
(1) DMM Arkhandus: ((Alright, you manage to successfully tend to Masato's wounds for the rest of the day to help him recover more rapidly))
** (16) Kai Lyn gets prepared for the evening preparing a small dinner for herself and Silver Streak then prepares their bed in the saddle bag that was made for them **
** (10) Kiran bows to Masato - "I believe you will heal quickly, Masato-san" **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti spends the remainder of the afternoon and evening alone, silently studying some of the writings and such amongst her personal effects. The servants tend the camp, prepare meals, and so on, as they are expected to do.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo, for his part, remains unconscious as the servant tends him, still barely alive after the vicious wounds he suffered earlier.
(7) Masato: "I'm sure I'll be fine. Thank you Kiran."
** (16) Kai Lyn goes over to see her "Good evening Nerfeteri-san I am Kai Lyn. I wished to say hello and introduce myself. I hate for you to be alone." **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru spends the day examining the daisho obtained from the half-elf ronin the party encountered earlier in the week, and making sure his weapons are still in fine shape. He talks little as he ponders the ronin.
** (10) Kiran goes to Shujo, and sits, communing with the spirits about and asking them for their strength to heal Shujo **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti smiles at Kai Lyn's comment. "Thank you, Kai Lyn. I have little to do whilst we travel....."
** (16) Kai Lyn says "I do want to be your friend anytime you need to talk or just want to visit just ask." **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo's wounds heal slightly under Kiran's glowing hands and prayers to the spirits, but his wounds still look pretty horrid.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti responds "Domo, Kai Lyn. But I think tonight I would just like to rest and think....."
** (16) Kai Lyn says "Well ok I will be resting with my friend in our saddle bag tonight she gets a little lonesome." **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti smiles at this
** (16) Kai Lyn wanders over to the horse and prepares a meal for the both of them and she just sits and watches the camp get settled in for the night **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The party settles in for the night, and sleeps well, with no disturbances. In the morning, the party rises and prepares to set out again.
** (16) Kai Lyn awakens and prepares herself for the day then prepares for the ride which is not the most fun for the both of them **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servant who tended Shujo tells the party that the Scorpion clan guide should be able to ride today, if carried in a cart and if the party rides slowly, without any further harm to him.
** (10) Kiran sits quietly and simply **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo seems decidedly less pale and pained this morning, after the minor healing of Kiran and the servant.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti rises in the morning and prepares her mind and magicks for the day ahead, while Satoru does some light exercising to prepare himself for any potential battles this day.
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servants pack up the camp and prepare everything for the day's ride, the head servant mounting Shujo's horse in the Scorpion clansman's stead, as the other servants load Shujo's unconscious form into their cart, trying to make him as comfortable as possible.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti and Satoru each mount their horses and prepare to move out, as well.
(10) Kiran: "Would it be wise of me to spend the strength I have been granted now, in healing Shujo, or wait to see what the day brings us?"
** (10) Kiran carefully helps his wounded companion into the makeshift wolf-cart **
** (16) Kai Lyn curls up in her saddlebag with Silverstreak and prepares for her fun day **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The head servant, who had been tending Shujo, mentions "I am fairly certain he will survive without any further assistance in healing, master Kiran-sama, but I do think you could travel faster if he was healed further and awakened....."
(10) Kiran: "I leave the decision to my noble companions" he says quietly
(1) DM Arkhandus: "Further healing would certainly prevent the remaining wounds from reopening, so that he could travel more safely....."
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servant bows and shuts up.
(7) Masato: "Perhaps it would be wise to assist him so that we may speed our travels."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru says "I don't really think we'll need the Scorpion's guidance or swordarm today, really, so we probably shouldn't bother, if he's not dying anymore......"
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru shrugs. "Up to the rest of you, I guess......"
** (10) Kiran looks confused which way to go **
** (16) Kai Lyn peeks out of the saddlebag watching them unable to answer them **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti says "I think we should probably help him....we could ride faster with him healed, right?"
** (10) Kiran ponders, then says, "Let us see how the spirits feel on this - I will try for a while, and if they seem favorably inclined, then I can try again." **
** (10) Kiran prays quietly, and waves his hands obver Shujo... **
(10) Kiran: CLW [1d8+1] -> [5,1] = (6)
(10) Kiran: "They seem neither opposed nor in favor of this course of action. Sigh."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo's worst wounds close, leaving behind noticeable scars from the terrible gashes inflicted upon the man, and Shujo begins to stir.
(10) Kiran: "I believe we can now move at a better pace, and I have some strength left to me from my prayers this morning, to be used later if needed."
** (10) Kiran bows to no one in particular, and moves to his horse **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The Scorpion guide awakens groggily, looking about as he lays in the servant cart
(1) DM Arkhandus: His eyes widen briefly, and he feels his chest to check for the wounds he remembered that had brought him low the day before.
(1) DM Arkhandus: "Wha......I, I'm alive....and the wounds......"
(1) DM Arkhandus: "But what am I doing in this cart that stinks of animals and heimin?:
** (7) Masato looks to Satoru. "Perhaps we should have left him unconscious." **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The Scorpion slowly stands and gets out of the cart, demanding the head servant get off his horse. The servant hesitates for a moment as he sees the Scorpion arise, and hops off.
** (16) Kai Lyn starts out with a long string of weasel squeaks telling him the best way we can. **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru grimaces, having already mentioned that earlier....
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo looks at Kai Lyn queerly, not understanding her squeeks, but shortly shakes his head in confusion and turns his attention to the others
(1) DM Arkhandus: "Well, I don't know how I survived that accursed bandit's blade, but it's about time we got moving again."
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servants scurry to mount again
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servants get in their cart again, and prepare to follow the party. Nerfereti, Shujo, and Satoru are all prepared to leave
(10) Kiran: "You survived because I saved you. The spirits are not angry with you, it seems, Shujo-san."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru starts his horse going, not waiting any longer.
** (16) Kai Lyn watches as Silver Streak joins her peering out and they start squeaking and chucklling **
** (10) Kiran follows Saturo, hiding a smile of satisfaction **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo replies "Well then, I thank your spirits I suppose, Kiran. Now let's ride, it is still a long ways to Scorpion lands and the Shinomen."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo seems somewhat bitter at his swift defeat in the battle the day before.....
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti spurs her horse onward, and Shujo slowly starts his moving as well, after brooding for a moment
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servants begin to follow as the group sets out once more.
(1) DM Arkhandus: The party travels swiftly this day, wanting to make up for lost time, and rides hard, now that Shujo and Masato are well enough to handle it.
(1) DM Arkhandus: You stop only a few times to give your horses rest, and as night falls, you begin to approach Kaeru village
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo mentions that you can probably reach the village if you ride through the night, but the horses will be exhausted and won't be able to travel as far the next day.
(10) Kiran: "Then let us rest, and save our strength."
(10) Kiran: "Here, in a bed... I am content with either."
(1) DM Arkhandus: The servants' horses already lag behind slightly, their steeds being bred as pack animals, not riding horses....
** (16) Kai Lyn climbs out of the saddlebag poly's to her human form and lets silverstreak out to have her fun **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti agrees. "I too would be fine with breaking camp now, or with riding on to Kaeru."
(1) DM Arkhandus: The horses, for their part, would seem to prefer a break....
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru stops and turns his horse around, trotting it over to the rest of the party to make camp.
(1) DM Arkhandus: The party sets up camp for the night, sups, and sleeps. In the morning, you arise again to prepare for another day of riding, and hopefully reaching Kaeru village.
(10) Kiran: ((Before laying down to sleep, Kiran will cast CLW on the most wounded among us, and use his CMW's on his wolf companion))
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti rises and prepares herself to ride again, and Satoru again wakes up and immediately sets about to his morning exercises, after having spent most of the previous day sitting still upon a horse.
(10) Kiran: CLW [1d8+1] -> [7,1] = (8)
** (16) Kai Lyn asks "May I ride in the wagon today instead of in the saddlebag?" **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Kiran's wolf feels much more energetic in the morning after Kiran healed him the night before.
(10) Kiran: The next morning, Kiran again simply sits, drawing strength from the spirit world
(10) Kiran: The wolf is happy to walk, having been in the cart for two days...
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo also feels better today, having also recieved further healing from Kiran.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo thanks the vanara again, though a little half-heartedly.
** (10) Kiran bows appropriately **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The group sets out again, at a more normal pace this time, and reaches Kaeru village shortly after noon.
(10) Kiran: "I will be happy for some good tea and a bit of meat and rice!" he declares
(1) DM Arkhandus: You ride into the village and are greeted respectfully by the peasants, and you see all the usual village establishments.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Bath houses, tea houses, geisha houses, inns, tailors, and so on and so forth
(1) DM Arkhandus: What are you going to do first as you enter the village?
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru says "I am going to find a bath house and rest for a while, I will see you all tomorrow."
(10) Kiran: (Bath! Then food, then tea and relaxation)
(1) DM Arkhandus: He dismounts his horse and calls one of the servants to take care of his horse, as he walks into the village to find a bathhouse.
** (16) Kai Lyn climbs out of the wagon stretches very sfiff muscles then heads to see what is going on **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo simply states "I shall eat and rest. We will continue on tomorrow." Then the Scorpion dismounts and leaves his horse to a servant as he heads to a tea house.
** (7) Masato seeks out a physician who can supply him with herbs for medicinal tea so as to speed his recovery. **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti mentions that she will just wander around for a while and will meet the group later at an inn or something, and she leaves.
(1) DM Arkhandus: So, Satoru and Kiran head to a bath house, as Nerfereti wanders about and looks around in some of the shops and such, as Masato finds an herbalist and Shujo heads to a tea house.
** (16) Kai Lyn will head to the shopping area (maybe there is some equipment I can use?) **
(10) Kiran: (Unless anything unusual happens, I am content to just bathe, eat, and then relax on some porch with tea, then saki...)
(1) DM Arkhandus: Masato, you find a heimin in town who sells herbs and folk remedies, and who is willing to help you recover more rapidly.
(1) DM Arkhandus: The herbalist also mentions that for a small fee he may be able to help you recover more rapidly with a minor treatment of herbs that would put you into a brief, healing sleep that would mend your wounds more rapidly.
(1) DM Arkhandus: The villagers you had spoken with to find this man said that he dabbles in magic a bit, and that he can work wonders on a person's injuries.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Masato?
(7) Masato: ((Does the fellow seem trustworthy?))
(1) DM Arkhandus: Yes, he seems ordinary enough, and the people in the village seemed to trust him.
** (7) Masato nods to the herbalist. "Very well." **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The herbalist clears a small bed in one corner of his shop, and motions for Masato to lay down and rest. He tells the samurai to relax and sleep.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Then he administers some smelling herbs that help you drift asleep, and sprinkles some miscellaneous herbs upon your wounds and such.
(1) DM Arkhandus: After a short while, maybe an hour or so, you are awakened with some smelling salts, and the herbalist says "It is done, the herbs have been applied and healed you."
(1) DM Arkhandus: He smiles and puts away some herbs and such, before requesting his payment.
** (7) Masato rises and counts out the herbalists fee, with a gratuity for his competent work. **
(7) Masato: "You've done well."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Your wounds seem to have faded to only minor scratches and scars, many of which will probably fully heal and disappear over time.
** (7) Masato buys some herbs for tea as he finds someplace quiet where he can conduct the tea ceremony and center himself. **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The herbalist nods and says "Of course, samurai. I have studied the herbs and the infusions of these lands for many years, and my ministrations are always successful. Good day and good health to you now."
(7) Masato: Tea Ceremony: [1d20+5] -> [6,5] = (11)
(1) DM AArkhandus: Meanwhile, Satoru and Kiran bathe, rest, eat and drink, doing little of note. Nerfereti is seen occasionally wandering about and inspecting merchant wares, eating, or reading, as Kai Lyn looks about and isn't really seen much as she shops for supplies and equipment.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo eats and drinks at a tea house, but isn't seen for much of the day.....
(10) Kiran: After a delightful bath, Kiran heads off to get some food. He eats heartily, and sees that his wolf is given a leg of lamb, or perhaps a fresh thigh bone. When both have eaten, he sits out front, and sips at some relaxing tea. After he feels inner peace return, Kiran then sips at some saki for a few hours, before wandering up to a room with his wolf to get some sleep
(1) DM Arkhandus: Alrighty then group, you relax and go about your business while in Kaeru village, and soon it is night and you are supping in a teahouse
(1) DM Arkhandus: All of you are present as you eat your evening meal, and a stranger enters the teahouse as you finish your meal, approaching you
(15) Shosuro Giadan: Description: You see a young Scorpion with long black hair and silver eyes, while the skin you can see on him is tanned, but his lovely mask shows nothing about him. The mask is lovely but hard to define, as it's not overly colored or underly colored but it is just right, with lots of distracting points on it so it's hard to look him in the eyes. He wears the robes of a shugenja, and on one side of his hip is a wakizashi while on the other is a sai
** (10) Kiran looks up with idle curiosity **
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Greetings honorable samurais and companions I am Shosuro Giadan. I have been sent by my clan to assist you.
(15) Shosuro Giadan: I was also sent here to heal any who need it, so are any of you injured from your travels?"
** (10) Kiran nods appropriately **
** (16) Kai Lyn looks him over "Very pleased to meet you I am Kai Lyn." **
(10) Kiran: "It will be nice, Giadan-san, to have someone to help me with the injured on this journey."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo eyes his fellow Scorpion suspiciously and questioningly....
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo grimaces briefly after Kiran's comment....
** (15) Shosuro Giadan bows to the group **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti says "Hello, Giadan-san," and then continues to finish her sake and rice.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru grimaces and says nothing, ignoring the Scorpion.
(10) Kiran: "Or more correctly, I should say, someone for me to help, Giadan-san."
** (7) Masato gives little recognition to yet another honorless Scorpion. **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo says nothing and finishes his meal, eyeing his fellow Scorpion questioningly the whole time, as though expecting an explanation or something
** (15) Shosuro Giadan takes a seat and eats a meal and drinks sparingly **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Satoru quickly finishes eating and leaves, bowing briefly and saying that he will see the others tomorrow as they set out again.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Kiran slowly finishes his food, trying several different human dishes, then says goodnight and goes to the inn.
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Kakita-sama you seem to have little regard for me, is there something I have done to offend you?"
** (15) Shosuro Giadan is looking at Masato **
(7) Masato: "No need to concern yourself with me."
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Well if that is your wish Kakita-sama, I will not concern myself with you then and concentrate my abilities on others, if that is what you wish"
(1) DM Arkhandus: Nerfereti studies the new Scorpion to join the group briefly as she finishes her food, then dismisses herself and heads to the inn, not really sure what to think about another Scorpion clansmen joining the party.
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo continues to eat slowly and eye the other scorpion strangely.
(7) Masato: "I fail to understand why you have been sent here. We already have a guide."
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "He is a guide yes and a good one, but I am a healer and that is why I have been sent; it would be bad manners if we where to not provide healing wouldn't it?"
** (16) Kai Lyn watches them very confused not knowing a scorpion from a monkey **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo nods at Masato's comment.
(7) Masato: "We have a healer, and Lord Akodo made no such mention that others would be joining us."
(1) DM Arkhandus: "I am sorry I did not mention Giadan sooner, Masato-san, but I was not expecting him to join us until we reached Scorpion lands. Perhaps my superiors forgot to mention his inclusion to Lord Akodo......" Shujo says quietly.
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Lord Akodo was not informed of my travel plans because I was sent out late; they thought a healer would be a good addition to the group as a whole."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo still eyes the other Scorpion questioningly
(7) Masato: "Who is they? My understanding was that only Lord Akodo was privvy to the details of this investigation. Who do you represent?"
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "I represent the Scorpion clan as they are the ones that sent me, but as for Lord Akodo he was informed of my mission as soon as I was sent out, of which I was assured"
(1) DM Arkhandus: "Perhaps we may recieve word from another of Akodo-sama's messengers sometime in the next few days....." Shujo mentions
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Do you wish to see my traveling papers Kakita-sama or is the word of a samurai not good enough for you?"
(7) Masato: "Without any form of writ we have no way to verify this, and if we keep our current pace, it is unlikely that a messenger would be able to catch up with us. You present a somewhat difficult problem for us. There are some who might seek us to fail in our mission. You understand our reluctance I'm sure."
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Very well if you with to see my traveling papers"
** (15) Shosuro Giadan pulls out his traveling papers in a large, grand motion so all around can see, and hands the papers to the Kakita **
(1) DM Arkhandus: The papers are signed by the lord of the Soshi shugenja school......
** (7) Masato narrows his eyes at this, knowing the rumors of the Soshi school. **
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo says "Perhaps we should wait in Kaeru for a few days, Masato, and perhaps a messenger from Lord Akodo will arrive?"
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "The papers are in order then Kakita-sama?"
(7) Masato: "I'm not sure we can afford to delay for several days. If Shujo finds his claims to his clan satisfactory, then I see no reason to delay. He may assist us if he wishes."
(1) DM Arkhandus: Shujo nods.
(1) DM Arkhandus: "I will be retiring to the inn now. I will see you three tomorrow......." Shujo states, then rises and leaves.
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "I also find myself in need of a Yojimbo until one can be assigned for me... would you Kakita-sama do me the honor of taking that role?"
(7) Masato: "My services are to Lord Akodo and my clan. My loyalty to them cannot be divided by service to another."
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "Well I didn't know it would cause a conflict for you to protect me and guard me from insults, so maybe your brother Crane will take up the position, if it's too much of an inconvenience for you to take on the noble responsibility of protecting someone. I will ask him in the morning; good evening"
(7) Masato: "Good evening."
** (15) Shosuro Giadan does a short bow and then offers his hand to the lovely lady at the table **
(15) Shosuro Giadan: "What is your name, dear lady?"
** (16) Kai Lyn takes his hand **
