Seven Days: 'Parkergeist'

A backstep to thwart a disaster results in Frank's death when the sphere is sabotaged. Now existing purely as a ghost, Frank must try to complete his mission and expose the traitors in Backstep itself.

This episode is one of the most predictable things in the world. Project Backstep has acquired a nice friendly new psychiatrist. This just screams 'Evil Bad Guy', and sure enough, despite briefly appearing as if it will contradict this cliché, Parkergeist drags it in along with the rest of its stolen plot. However, the majority of the storyline is blatantly nicked from the movie Ghost, complete with most of the film's dialogue, bright lights when someone dies, Parker being told 'It's not your time' alongside his ability to move things by shouting, and only one person knowing of Frank's existence. This brings in yet another old chestnut: the blind guy who can still perceive things from another dimension.

In amongst these aging relics, the plot (such as it is) is totally lost, and there are so many gaps in the narrative, it would take a moon to plug the hole. How does Parker manage to get back to his body just by backstepping again? He was dead! Why is the saboteur forced to take the blame for actions he hasn't committed yet? When the criminals are arrested, what are they going to charge them with? thinking about sabotage? The whole concept is tangled so much around itself that it's not even worth trying to work out what's happening. On top of this, just as the poor blind guy gets a chance at happiness in heaven, Frank backsteps and ruins his life once again, although he does offer him his sight back, due to 'advanced medical technologies' only the Project knows about. Yeah, right. Give this one a wide berth.
