Going to Sacramento to disc golf at Orangevale Community Park? Do you need a map of the course?

Hey there. Welcome to my disc golf page. I'm Nosmo King, the enigmatic disc golfer. You won't see me playing too often but you'll know that I've been there.

Weece finishes off a round. I'm here to cover some of the disc golf events that have been happening around our area as well as give some information out to parties interested in knowing more about disc golf and the craze that it is.

Currently, a group meets on the second Saturday of the month for a round or two. Don't be surprised if they end up going out after for another round or two at the local pizza joint. Most likely, you'll find them around the Davis/Sacramento area where they frequent the Orangevale course most often. They've also been known to visit the Napa course with its frustrating disc rolls and lots of hiding places for cougars. Other potential locations include Vacaville, Novato, Santa Rosa, and, maybe someday, the Delaveaga course in Santa Cruz. Also included in the adventure is the Nosmo King Hole-In-One Challenge.

For more information on Disc Golf, check out Disclife or the PDGA's official site. You can find discs for purchase at some independent sporting goods stores, Big 5, Sportmart, or the Play It Again Sports in Pleasant Hill. If you are interested in taking part in any of these monthly events, contact Scott Johnson.

RECAP: Past Disc Golf Events!!
March 9, 2002
The day started off a bit chilly but was looking good as Jason, Scott, Josh, Ron, and Tim met at the Oxford Circle course. The first tries of the Hole-In-One Challenge were attempted but the pot remains for next time. Unfortunately, the trek out to Orangevale (post Fluffy's) was derailed by the St. Patrick's Day tournament that was taking place at the course over the weekend. The dejected souls elected to refrain from any further discing for the day and retired to the Graduate in Davis for some pizza, drinks, and dice. All in all, not the best day in disc golf history but not a bad one as laughs were still had by all.

February 9, 2002
After months of inactivity and despair, the loyal discers met for the first time and opened up the 2002 season with a bang. Among those in attendance were Father Fon, El Legakis, Weece, Jay D., Matty "nutmeg" DeJong, Taylor, and Scott. The usual gang of vagrants and curs weren't present at Oxford Circle so the opening round was relatively quiet and gave no sign of events to come. Sustenance was obtained at the local Fluffy's and the group made way to Lagoon Valley. Nosmo King couldn't make it this time around but he sent his cohort, Gus T. Wind. The day was beautiful in Vacaville but the constant breeze helped send 5 discs into the drink. Fortunately, many of the discs were replaced for the back nine and the fellowship set off into the gale. Weece dazzled with some great putting. Legakis looks to be a future force with his solid short game and impressed everyone by threading the needle on number 15. Just ask the blind man, he saw it all. It looks like Vacaville will be visited again soon, despite the wind. NOTE: Future participants should bring their own dice and cup for the after-visit to Woodstock's because their facilities are currently lacking.

January 12, 2002
This date in disc golf history did not actually exist. All knowledge of this date will be strenuously denied.

December 8, 2001
Two valiant disc-heads made the trek into the wet and cold, threw the required discs, and were promptly killed by a cinder block, thrown from a roof. Or they went home.

November 10, 2001
After the large gathering of eight disc golfers arrived at Oxford Circle, the craziness began. The veteran golfers of the group, Tim, Josh, Mark, and Scott were ready to go but the newcomers weren't far behind. Jeremy was ready to get in your head before the first disc was even thrown, Ron picked up a new way of throwing and made it work, and Justin was prepared with not one, but two discs. Chris rounded out the group and added some solid competition. After the warm-up, the group headed to Orangevale and, after some detours, got going on a gorgeous day. The group of Mark, Jeremy, Chris, and Ron stormed ahead and were soon out of sight of the second group. Mark took top honors with a 68 but the others weren't far behind and will be putting a lot of pressure on the leaders in upcoming meetings. For the second group, Tim and Scott battled it out for the overall score and skins lead with Scott just edging Tim. A few key putts would have put Josh in the thick of it as well and Justin ended up finishing strong on his first outing. A few of the discers retired to Woodstocks for Pizza and Liar's Dice in what looks to be a good way to end a good day of disc golf.

October 13, 2001
Following the Banta wedding festivities of the night before, the group met in Lafayette and headed over to the Moraga course for a warmup round. The participants this day were Tim Chole, looking fine in his usual disc golf duds, Chris Weaver, all the way in from Ohio, Mark Foncannon, returning after a short layoff, and Scott Johnson, the ever hopeful organizer. Jay Dinkins and a friend from Texas were also scheduled to play but, because of car trouble, just missed meeting the group before they left. This was obviously an unfortunate happening but the group carried on. At Moraga, Scott took the opening skin but it remained knotted up until the 9th hole, where Chris, the first timer, took the final eight skins.
Then, it was off to the Napa course. After the hike to the first tee, the group realized that this day's courses would be much different from the flat courses they were used to. The worries of a runaway disc grew significantly and the profanities of Tim were directed at a few discs, although many were heading for the bottom of a hill and probably didn't hear him. Mark dazzled everyone with his dead-eye putting and ended up bringing home the most skins from the team play. Hopefully the course will be played again since they couldn't play all 18 holes due to time.

September 8, 2001
Timmy at the Tee      After meeting at the Davis course and playing a quick round there, Josh (AKA Weeceman) Peterman, Jay, Tim, and Scott headed over to the Orangvale course for a round of 18. Skins was the game and the teams rotated every nine holes. Tim made a valiant effort and put away a big putt at one point. But Jay, the southpaw of the clan, came away the big winner of the day with 12 skins. Afterwards, not having enough competition already, the foursome retired back to Davis for some pizza, beer, Liar's Dice, and billiards. A good day all around.

August 11, 2001
In the second ever meeting, Tim and Scott dutifully made there way from the Davis course to the Orangevale course where they honed their skills for future competition. Tim valiantly hid his nerves regarding his upcoming nuptials and the Sacramento heat was once again avoided.

June 23, 2001
The inaugural disc golf event, Mark, Tim, Scott, and Jason Warner showed up for some high intensity disc action. The first timers were initiated on the Davis course and the group (minus Mark) headed out to Orangevale take on the full 18. In a skins match for the ages, Scott jumped into an early lead with four skins but the others came on strong. By the last hole, Tim held six skins, Scott was at five, and the long driving Jason was in there with four. The 18th hole, being worth 3 skins, would determine the winner, and Scott came through with some clutch throws to take it. A tradition was born and disc golf was in their blood.

Since making this map, I have discovered some more alternate tee and hole placements that have not been placed on the map. Most of them are pretty obvious when playing the course. Holes 4, 6, and 7 have alternate holes not shown on the map. Hole 11 has a third tee box, I believe, but I've never played from it. There are probably a few other alternate layouts that I have not played at Orangevale. Enjoy.
