Have
yourself a merry little Christmas;
Let
your heart be light.

Botan
looked outside her bedroom window, watching as snowflakes blanketed the Reikai.
She wore a long red dress, a green bow replaced the normal hair tie in
her blue hair. With a determined
look on her face she walked out of her room.

From
now on, your troubles will be out of sight.

Koenma sat behind his large wooden desk, stamping an endless amount of papers, oblivious to all else occurring around him. George had left a long time ago, saying something about visiting his family and loved ones.
He
recalled the conversation between them with a tinge of envy.
He shook his head and went on approving the documents.

Have
yourself a merry little Christmas;
Make
the Yule-tide gay.

Through
the slightly ajar door to Koenma's office, Botan stared sadly at the youth.
Nodding her head, she firmly grasped the doorknob, and pulled it open.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
From
now on, your troubles will be miles away.

She walked across the room, Koenma not even noticing, and snatched the seal out of the brunette's hand before throwing it on to the floor.
Koenma sat, mouth agape as Botan slammed her fist onto the desk. She pointedly asked what he was doing here? It was the holidays for crying out loud. Take a break!
Koenma
remained seated, stunned.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Here
we are as in olden days,
Happy
golden days of yore.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Botan's expression softened. She reminded him of Keiko's Christmas party she was holding tonight, asking if he would like to go, since no one else was here working.
Botan looked earnestly at the Reikai prince, urging him to agree. Thinking it over for a minute, Koenma finally nodded his consent and stood up, a small smile spreading across his face.
Botan grinned and latched on to his arm, dragging him out of the dingy office.
Summoning
her oar, they both took off into the air, Koenma's arms securely fastened around
the ferry girl's waist.

Faithful
friends who are dear to us
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Keiko's face brightened upon seeing the two at the door, eagerly inviting them inside. Yuusuke was currently next to the fire place, drink in hand, as he laughed with Kuwabara.
Kurama was seated on a green couch, prodding Hiei to enjoy himself. Hiei responded with a firm "Hn" but nonetheless, his lips quirked up a little as he watched the redhead with the corner of his eye.
Noticing the two new visitors, both Yuusuke and Kuwabara approached them, joking with Koenma about how he managed to pull himself away from all his work.
Koenma arched his left eyebrow, stating hotly that he could leave the Reikai whenever he felt like it.
Botan promptly elbowed him in the stomach, before leaving the three to join Yukina and Shizura at the refreshment table.
Koenma
sourly rubbed at his sore stomach, Yuusuke and Kuwabara cracking up.

Gather
near to us once more.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Koenma stared out the living room's window, watching the snowflakes descend from the sky. He turned around and watched as everyone gathered around the Christmas tree to exchange presents.
His
gaze fell on each and everyone of them, but settled on a certain blue-haired
girl.

Through
the years we all will be together

He remembered when they first met. Botan had just entered the spirit world; her life taken away from drowning. Complications occurred and she found she couldn't be reborn until a millennia later.
He was walking to his room late one night and heard her crying in her room. He cautiously pushed open the door and peered into the room.
Botan laid on her bed, her face buried into her pillow.
Soundlessly, he approached her and sat on the edge of her bed. Reaching out a hand, he placed it onto her shoulder.
Surprised, she sat up and recoiled away from him. He assured her that he wasn't going to hurt her; he was just worried about her.
She murmured a soft apology and continued to sniffle.
Koenma introduced himself and asked what her name was.
She replied, a little nervous now after seeing who she was talking too.
Botan, he repeated, pink peonies? He told her that was a lovely name, but then asked why she was crying.
Botan explained her situation, tears spilling from her eyes.
Koenma frowned, which he quickly replaced with a smile. He reassured her that it wouldn't be too bad. He told her that she could be a ferry girl.
She shook her head, saying she wanted to be alive again, to see her younger brother and her friends.
He again reached out and lifted her chin with his fingers. He told her she still could if she were a ferry girl. She wouldn't be able to communicate with him, but she could still watch over him. Her friends as well.
She was still a little uneasy about the entire ordeal, so Koenma offered something else.
He offered her his friendship; at least then she would have someone to talk to.
Botan smiled, replying that would be nice. She was silent for a moment, causing Koenma's worry to rise again. She hesitantly raised her arms and a second later, hugged him fiercely, crying.
Koenma
used one hand to rub her back, the other to pat her head, telling her that
everything would work out.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
If
the fates allow.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Botan
shouted to him, knocking him out of his reverie, and waved him over.
He smiled and joined the others, taking a seat beside her.

Hang
a shining star upon the highest bough.

He watched as Botan's face lit up as she opened gift after gift.
He then was given a shock, when Yukina handed him a box. Puzzled, he looked down and read the tag.
To: Koenma-sama
Merry Christmas! Don't open until X-mas ^_^v
From: Botan
He looked at the ferry girl, to see her waiting in anticipation for him to open it.
He unwrapped the gift slowly, not wanting to look as ridiculous as Yuusuke, who was currently tearing up a storm.
Lifting up the lid of the square box, his eyes widened at the contents.
Inside lied a picture of the two of them on Botan's first day as a ferry girl. Both were smiling widely, no trace of any sadness from the night before.
Koenma lifted the picture and looked at it again, before looking at the one who had given it to him.
Botan blushed, head bowed.
Yuusuke then hollered, telling them both to look up.
Mistletoe...
...attached to a fishing pole, currently held by a grinning Kuwabara.
Koenma shyly looked at Botan, both blushing furiously.
The entire room yelled catcalls and goaded them to fulfill tradition.
Keiko, Shizura, and Yukina pulled Botan to her feet, as Yuusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama lifted Koenma up to his.
With a push from each side, they now stood, faces inches away from each other. Botan had her head bowed slightly to hide her reddened cheeks.
Koenma gathered his courage and lifted her chin up so that they looked each other in the eye.
Botan wore a surprised expression on her face.
"Everything worked out, didn't it?" he whispered for only the two of them to hear.
Botan smiled, nodding her head slightly. "Mm, it certainly did, Koenma-sama."
Botan
closed her eyes, as Koenma leaned in for a soft kiss.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
And
have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As their lips parted, cheering could be heard in the background, but both paid no attention to it.
Foreheads touching, Koenma smiled warmly, Botan doing as well.
"Merry Christmas, Botan."
"Merry
Christmas, Koenma.
The
End
