Only You
by Misty
Chapter 9
Koenma
gritted his teeth in anger. Think fast! he thought, trying to keep a
clear head. What should I do now?!
He glanced at the
mirror in Mishina’s hand, and narrowed his eyes. There was only one thing he
could do now, one last, desperate move…
Summoning
all his strength, he yanked his body out of Genei’s grasp, which was,
thankfully, quite loose, since Genei thought he was already unconscious.
Koenma
grabbed the mirror from Mishina, and threw it to the wall.
The
mirror shattered, and Koenma collapsed on the ground.
“You
nasty little brat!!!!!” Stunned and enraged, Mishina threw a hard punch at
Koenma. “Just you wait, when I become ruler, I will make you suffer!”
Angrily, she turned to Genei. “GENEI!!!!”
“What
is it, Mishina-sama?”
“Give
him a good, hard beating. I don’t care if he dies, just make him suffer, you
hear me?”
“Yes,
Mishina-sama.”
Koenma
looked up, only to see Genei’s face looming over his. The oni-like demon had
an expression of sheer cruelty in his eyes, and he grabbed Koenma by the collar,
proceeding to rain punches on the prince’s face.
Mishina, somewhat mollified by Koenma’s cries of agony, sat back down on her chair.
Even
with the combined efforts of Kurama and Hiei, they still couldn’t hold off
their opponents.
Hiei
cursed under his breath, as one youkai’s sword sliced against his arm. “I
can’t take anymore of this,” he said irritably.
“Neither
can I,” Kurama replied, lashing out at one of his opponents, “But there’s
nothing we can do now, but fight.”
“Hn!”
Hiei grunted. Angrily, he grabbed the small piece of cloth that concealed his
forehead, thus exposing his jagan.
Kurama
nodded, then realizing what Hiei was about to do. With a burst of energy, he
managed to summon his demon plants.
Vines
grew out of the ground, their strong branches wrapping around each other,
forming a formidable shield around Kurama and Hiei.
“Hey!
Do you think that could protect you?!” one of the youkais jeered. “There’s
no use hiding!”
Kurama
glanced at Hiei. The said fire demon nodded, and started to buildup some energy
in his hands. His jagan opened wide, glowing a fierce, eerie purple.
“Jaou…”
The
troop of youkais continued to march their way into the barrier.
“Ensatsu…”
Hiei
held out his hand, and directed it towards the attacking youkais.
“KOKURYUHA!!!!!!!!!”
The
black dragon forced its way out Hiei’s arm, and broke through Kurama’s plant
barrier. It then charged at the youkais, swallowing everything in its path. Some
of the youkais ran for their lives, and yet, the dragon did not spare them.
Having
effortlessly finishing the youkai troops, the dragon returned to Hiei’s arm.
Kurama
breathed a sigh of relief. “Whew! At least that’s done. Good work.”
“Hn,”
was all Hiei replied, and he yawned. He struggled to keep his eyes open,
fighting the growing drowsiness he felt.
“Well
then, let’s go,” Kurama said, and they went on their way.
Yukina
opened her eyes, and sat straight up. Where was she? As her eyes focused, she
noticed a pretty young woman beside her bed. The girl smiled.
“Seiko-san?”
Yukina said, puzzled.
“Hi,”
Naomi said. “Actually, you can call me Naomi , for that’s my real name. I
was once an old friend of Kurama in the Ma Kai. Anyway, I’m glad you’re
awake.”
Yukina
smiled, and smoothed the folds of her blouse.
She
looked around her, and she saw Shizuru bent over Keiko. Keiko had already
regained consciousness, and she smiled at Yukina, although there was a trace of
sadness on her face. Botan was also present, sitting on Shizuru’s bed!
“Hi,
Yukina-chan!” the pretty ferry girl said cheerfully. “You look really
beautiful this morning!”
Yukina
blushed. Naomi laughed, and she ruffled the Koorime’s hair. “She’s right,
you know,” she said warmly. She turned to Shizuru. “I better go to your
brother’s room now.”
“Sure,”
Shizuru said. “I’ll go with you.” And with that, Naomi and Shizuru went
out of the room.
“She
was part of Mishina’s group?” Botan said. “I still can’t believe it.”
“What
are you talking about?” Keiko asked.
Botan
explained everything to Keiko. “But if she was part of Mishina’s group,
shouldn’t we doubt her?” Keiko pointed out. “She could be one of the
enemy.”
“Oh,
I don’t think so,” Yukina said quietly. “She looks very nice to me.
Besides, Shizuru-san seems to like her a lot. And Shizuru has strong psychic
abilities. She would sense if Naomi was someone we should be careful about.”
Meanwhile,
Naomi and Shizuru had just entered Kazuma’s room. Kuwabara was still out cold
on his bed.
Naomi
laid the rock on Kuwabara’s hand, and suddenly, his body glowed, as life
energy was slowly being brought back into his body.
Gradually,
the glowing ceased, and Naomi removed the rock from Kuwabara’s palm.
The
two young women waited for Kuwabara to wake up, but even after what seemed like
an eternity, he was still unconscious.
“What
happened?” Naomi said worriedly. “I must have given too much to Yukina
–“
She
was cut off by a loud snore from Kuwabara.
The
two girls sweatdropped. “Oh, sheesh,” Shizuru said exasperatedly. “Wait
here, Naomi. I’ll go get some water to wake HIM up.” She started to stand
up, when suddenly, Kuwabara shouted, “Don’t you dare hurt my Yukina!”
Still
asleep, Kuwabara leapt up, and punched Shizuru in the face!
“Wake
up! It’s me, you fool!” Shizuru hollered, and punched Kuwabara with all her
strength. The unfortunate boy slammed into the wall, which cracked a little.
Naomi
sweatdropped.
“Huh—uh?”
Kuwabara mumbled, and woke up. “What happened?”
“For
your information, KAZUMA,” Shizuru said angrily. “You just punched me on the
face. And because of that, you get this!” She kicked him on the shin.
“YEEEOOWWWCHHH!!!!!!”
Kuwabara yelled, and started to hop around the room, clutching his left leg.
Keiko
and Yukina ran into the room, with Keiko yelling, "What happened?! Is
everyone all right?"
They
stoppped, realizing what really happened. “Oh, Shizuru and Kazuma are fighting
again,” Yukina said.
“So
what else is new?” Botan said, limping into the room.
“Wait
a minute,” Kuwabara said. He turned to Naomi. “Seiko-san? What are you doing
here? And what happened to Yusuke? And what is Botan doing here? And—“
“One
question at a time, Kazuma!” Shizuru said, irritated. She began to explain
about how Yusuke was possessed, how Mishina attacked the Rei Kai, and Naomi.
Kuwabara
just stood there, as if in shock.
“Oh,
don’t worry, Kazuma-san,” Yukina comforted. “I know it’s really shocking
and—“
“Uhhh—“
Kuwabara said tentatively, then smiled sheepishly. “Could you explain it
again? I didn’t understand.”
Everyone,
except for Kuwabara and Yukina, fell to the floor.
“Oh
sheesh, Kazuma!!!” Shizuru bellowed, and began to beat her brother up. “How
many times do I have to tell you—“
Keiko,
Botan and Naomi began to sneak out of the room.
“I
didn’t know Shizuru-san can be so violent,” Naomi said.
“That
happens all the time,” Keiko clarified.
Naomi
sweatdropped again. “Really?”
Shizuru,
having finished beating Kuwabara up, turned to the other girls. “Well, now
that’s finished, what do we do next?”
“Well…”
Naomi began. “Um…I don’t really think we’re safe here, you know. Yusuke
could come back here again.”
“Yes,”
Shizuru said, nodding. “But where could we go?”
“Um…”
Naomi thought for a moment. “How about we go to my house? Yusuke doesn’t
know where I live. Kurama would be able to find us using Hiei-san’s jagan.”
“But
what about Mishina?” Keiko pointed out. “She could be watching us right now,
and she could go tell Yusuke.”
“But
there is no way to communicate directly from the Rei Kai,” Botan replied.
“She has to send a messenger to get to Yusuke.”
“Right,”
Naomi agreed. “That could buy us some time.”
“Well,
then, let’s go!” Botan said eagerly. “I want to see your house too, Seiko-chan!”
The
other girls agreed, and they set off to Naomi’s house.
Kuwabara,
bloodied and bruised, raced after them. “Hey!!!! Wait for meeeeee!!!!!!!” Great,
I’m the only man in this group! Where are the other guys when I need ‘em???!!!!
Mishina
got up from her chair. “Genei!!!” she hollered.
After
a few moments, Genei came to her side. “Yes, Mishina-sama?”
“Guard
the Rei Kai. I’m going away.”
“Yes,
my lady. But where are you going?”
“To
kill Naomi once and for all.”
Mishina
slammed the door behind her. She cursed loudly. Naomi
thinks that she can stop me…well, I’ll show her. She will regret having
interfered with my plans.
“You’ll
pay for this, Naomi!!!!!”
