Flat Car - as yet unnumbered
This is a scratch built flat car. As with my tank car,
I based it on plans from Northeast Narrow Gauge. The plans call it 1:20 scale. Weathering
ideas were borrowed from other websites. I wish I could
give specific credit to certain individual websites, but I did not keep track of them at
the time. The planking is made from popsicle sticks. The frame is constructed of "what
ever is left laying around". Heavy weathering hides the variation in grain resulting from
using a variety of different woods. I do run it outdoors but it does not get exposed to
inclimate weather for very long.
Link and pin couplers would probably be more pleasing to those looking for a more pure-ist
look. I opted for Kadee's because I enjoy setting cars out on my siding automatically. My
Aristo TE really enhanced this part of the hobby for me.
The Bachmann barrel still needs some weathering. The puppy was added at my daughter's insistance. I think it may have been a McDonalds or Burger King toy, but I'm not sure.
