Hand Car

My Ozark Miniatures Hand Car kit is complete. It was a very pleasurable kit to construct. Everything fit very well. Some minor filing and cleaning was required. The only significant modification I made to the construction was to increase the size of the holes in two of the wheels. I then covered one end of each axle with insulation from an appropriate sized piece of wire. When fully assembled you then end up with a car that is insulated so it can sit on rail powered track without shorting anything out. Special thanks to Dean Whipple for the inspiration and information. I will not describe any futher construction techniques here as I am in Dean's debt for the idea and do not want to give anyone the impression that other than my unique styling, the consturction concept is anything but Dean's. See Dean's website for his construction tips. Its another of those great sites well worth visiting.

A Stomper assembly in the trailer is used to push the handcar around the CWN. The figure on the handcar is suspected to be a very early vintage ~ 1970’s Fisher Price toy but I do not know that for a fact. The figure on the trailer is a generally unmodified Wal-Mart Christmas figure. Note the rather obvious scale difference. It’s far less offensive with the unit in motion around the garden. The Rum barrels were made from plant pots presumably intended for dollhouses or other craftwork, glued together. They came from a White Rose store.
