Note: This entry was composed on
July 7, not July 4. Thursday night, my plans for the long weekend
changed from the expected 'exploring DC'. Charles (one of Mike's
friends) IMed me and convinced me to drive down to Virginia Beach and hang
out with them for the weekend.
So Friday morning I got up and drove down from MD to meet them at Charles
apartment in Newport News. Traffic was pretty bad once I got on I95
and I gained a strong appreciation for the beltway. It took a little
over 4 hours to get down there... I pulled in at the CNU apartment complex
right around 2:15 pm, went in and changed really fast, and then we all piled
in Mike's car and drove to the beach! :)
The weather was great! We swam for a while and then threw a
football around up on the sand and then swam some more. For dinner we
we up and ate at a little seafood place just up from where we were 'camped
out' on the sand. We all split 2 pounds of shrimp.
After dinner we just went back down to our spot on the sand and sat
around until the fireworks. The fireworks boat came out and anchored
pretty much directly in front of us. They were pretty good fireworks,
but honestly, I don't think they were any better than the fireworks at SML
Dock & Lodge from last year.
After the fireworks show, we made the trek back out to where we parked
the car and then fought traffic trying to get back to Newport News. We
finally made it back to Charles' apartment and hung out for a good while
before going to sleep. |
