Mixed Fruit Jam Through the years

February 1996 - December 1999

In February 1996 George, Arvind and Thomas decided to liven up their monotonous and rigorous college life at R.V. College of Engineering. George already had six years of experience in the world of music as a guitarist. Thomas and Arvind were ready to begin a new phase in their lives. Music Bands in those days had a tendency to stick to one particular style, maybe rock, metal, blues, jazz, classical, reggae and so on. A desire to formulate a ‘band with a difference’ gave birth to ‘Mixed Fruit Jam’. This band was committed to perform music of a wide variety that included all these styles so that at any performance, they could appeal to the mixed musical tastes of the audience. George played the lead guitar, Arvind experimented with his first rhythms on the drums and Thomas took to the Bass Guitar. After a month of jamming in their college music room, Krithika and K.T. Thomas joined the band as vocalists and Jathin as Rhythm Guitarist. At first the band performed for their friends in their own college. As time went by, they gained confidence to represent their college at various inter college music festivals all across the country like St. Johns Medical College, Ramaya College, National Law School, Christ College, MCC Madras, St. Joseph’s College, MVIT, PESIT, UVCE, Baldwins, SJCE Mysore, and BITS Pilani. Mixed Fruit Jam also performed at many Freedom Jams held in Indian Institute of Science and Ravindra Kalakshestra. Some of their unforgettable performances include Opening for the popular Heavy Metal Band ‘Millennium’ at RVCE, an Independence Day Rock Show at the Koramangla Indoor Stadium and shows at ‘The Club’ on Mysore Road. During these four years the band has changed many musicians like Anindita as Vocalist, Amit as Rhythm Guitarist, Arun as Bass Guitarist, Sanchith on Keyboards and Avishek as Vocalist. At the end of the Millennium Mixed Fruit Jam had a whole new team comprising of K.T. Thomas, Anindita, George, Amit, Arun, Sanchith and Arvind. Mixed Fruit Jam also had a collection of five of their very own songs composed during these years. Before this team dispersed all across the world for further studies, they came out with a Demo CD of these five songs which served as the base for the release of Mixed Fruit Jams first Album ‘Out Of The Dark’.
