"OLIVER ELEPHANTAVIUS OCK" |
AUTHOR UNKOWN |
Oliver Elephantavius Ock is the most misbehaving-est kid on the block. If your window is broken, it's him with the rock-- it is Oliver Elephantavius Ock. He'll be chasing your dog with a hickory stick, or he'll press on your doorbell and run away quick, and you better keep all of your toys under lock because Oliver Elephantavius Ock will be stalking your stash and be stealing your stuff, and you won't get it back for you're not tough enough, and he's always out looking for someone to sock, for he's Oliver Elephantavius Ock. Now you might think a grownup will look out for you but they say that the grownups are scared of him, too, for he doesn't obey them, he'll jeer and he'll mock, for he's Oliver Elephantavius Ock and he makes ugly faces and knows how to curse and make sickening noises and things even worse that I'd rather not tell you, you can't take the shock of an Oliver Elephantavius Ock. But a rumor is spreading, and some say it's true, that ol' Ock took a rock to a house that was new, and he aimed at a window and busted the glass, staying after for laughter right there in the grass, but he suddenly stopped and he froze in his fright for the window he cracked was now black as the night and the thing that he saw made his heart flutter faster: the white-collared, black-shirted shape of . . . his pastor! It made the lips tremble, the knobby knees knock on one Oliver Elephantavius Ock. For the only thing Oliver found at all frightening was Someone in heaven, who sent down the lightning, and threw down the thunder to people down under, and hurricanes, flood rains, and every wild wonder. And here was a mass of a man of a minister, standing so sternly and stately and sinister, beckoning now in his frightening frock for a reckoning now with one Oliver Ock. And some say that lightning came out of the sky, or an earthquake did shake, or a comet whiz by. But others say, no, it was nothing so weird, but the pastor and Oliver Ock disappeared in the house until hours had passed on the clock. And one Oliver Elephantavius Ock reappeared with the minister after a while, and his laughter was heard, and his face had a smile! And I can't tell you why, for I know that it's strange, but our block was in shock, for ol' Ock had a change. And he wouldn't throw rocks or chase dogs with a stick, or steal toys, or hit boys, or play any such trick. He was nice to the neighbors, and friendly to friends, and he said he was sorry, and made his amends. And grew up, as our story now happily ends. For he cherishes church, where he shepherds the flock, Reverend Oliver Elephantavius Ock. |
