Motivating Moms
In order to
involve the entire community with the football team, we have two programs which
involve the parents of the players. We want to be a “family organization” and
the more we can involve the whole family of each team member, the better off
the team will be and the more comfortable the parents will be with the football
program. One such program is called the Filming Fathers and the other is known
as the Motivating Moms.
Due to girls’
athletic programs (those whose seasons coincide with football), it has become
necessary for many schools to appoint someone to decorate players’ lockers each
week, organize cheer sections at games, and possibly set up team/community
dinners, among other similar functions. Cheerleaders are often very busy
practicing on their own or even participating in fall sports. The mothers of
the players are logical choices for these positions as many of them probably
did perform similar functions while in school as students and/or cheerleaders
and many of them may desire to be involved with the football team in some
manner.
I envision that
the mothers of the football players would get together before the school year
began, and nominate and elect two Motivating Mother leaders. I feel it might be
beneficial to have one leader be the mother of a senior player while it might
be wise to have the other be the mother of a freshman player. This way when the
senior Motivating Mother’s son graduates, there would still be another leader
left who knows how things operate. They wouldn’t have to “reinvent the wheel”
each year.
It would be up to
the players’ mothers to organize and build this organization. However it is
done, it will be beneficial to the team as it seems that most people have “many
hats to wear” anymore and hoping that fans and parents spontaneously become
great fans each weekend is unrealistic.
