Lake Hiawassee

Boating on Lake Hiawassee is an enjoyable way to spend a day. Whether you are renting a boat or have your own, Mountain View Marina is the best marina on the lake. They have a variety of boats to rent as well as jet skis. The slip rentals get very tight in the summer, so make your reservations early. We have used their facilities and you will find the folks friendly. The Marina is located at beautiful Bear Paw subdivision off of SR 294, about a 30 minute drive from the Chalet. The Chalet is located nicely between the conveniences in Murphy and the Marina.

Lake Hiawassee is a huge resevior lake running some 25 miles in length. It is a part of the TVA system and they generate power at the west end where the dam is located. There is a liitle used overlook and picnic area near the dam that you can get to by car by driving on top of the dam. Be sure to ask the marina folks for the map showing the boating "Points of Interest" on the lake. The waterfall is great!

The water is beautiful, but the level will fluctuate with the season and the amount of rainfall. It is a deep lake and boating continues as water levels change. Like all resevoir lakes, changing water levels are normal. To be safe, just check the level with the Marina people before you make plans. Call Laura or Russ at 828-644-5451. The boat ramp is a little steep, but it is concrete. Visit the Mountain View Marina web site.
