Honda is arguably the brand most responsible for the current trend of import car performance. The trend originally focused on the Civic, as enthusiats began modiying their vehicles with larger wheels, racing suspensions, bolt-on engine upgrades and even engine swaps. Honda's Acura brand, introduced in 1988, was brought into the foray by their entry level model called the Integra. The Integra, based on the Civic chassis, featured many interchangeable components with the smaller car, making it just as desirable to individuals looking to customiize their vehicle. As the import performance scene gained popularity, attention from enthusiasts began to spread to other Honda vehicles, such as the Accord, Prelude and eventually, the S2000. |
