Mitsubishi, unlike most Japanese automobile manufacturers, has not enjoyed high sales or financial success over the past decade in the US market. Their Galant and Mirage sedans were plagued by bland styling and could never seem to step out of the shadow of more popular vehicles, such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and others. However, their Eclipse model, a joint venture with co-developed with Chrysler, has been a tremendous hit with consumers and enthusiasts, alike. Enthusiasts are attracted to the car mainly for it's available turbocharged engine, called the 4g63. Last year, following in the success of the Eclipse, Mitsubishi introduced their turbocarged, AWD, Rally inspired Evolution to the US market to much fanfare. Iterations of this car has been extremely popular in overseas markets for almost a decade, so it's introduction to the US should give Mitsubishi the shot in the arm it has been looking for. |
