Mothers & More has activities both for mothers with their children (and spouses) and also just for the mothers themselves. Here are some of the great activities the Essex County Chapter of Mothes & More has to offer in support of our members. It helps us all to remember that we're each an individual in addition to being someone's mom! Bi-Monthly Meetings - We meet, without the kids, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of eacdh month from 7:30pm to about 9:30pm. This gives us time to socialize with other members as well as discuss the hot topic of the day. Some of our recent topics and events have included: discipline strategies, whining, car seat safety, family-friendly vacation destinations, Internet safety, camping, a Beach Party, Holiday Cookie Exchange, interior design tips, yoga, life coach, recipe swap, how having children affects relationships, effects of television viewing on children, seeking and supporting adoption, and recycling. |

40+ - This group of moms are in their late 30s or 40s with small children. We recognize that having children later in life offers different joys, challenges and issues. It meets every other week in members' homes and is really a "playgroup" for the moms. An Online Community/Email Loop - This online forum is a great place for members to exchange ideas, discuss frustrations and problems, ask questions, share solutions, get advice, or just talk. Book Club - Our book club meets in members' homes on the 1st Wednesday evening of each month. Twice a year, the club votes on which books to read for the next six months. The monthly selection, not usually longer than 350 pages, can range from fiction to non-fiction, biography to classic. It's a great way to ensure that you read more than just children's literature. Chapter and National Newsletters - Our chapter newsletter is our primary source for chapter information. It includes details on upcoming meetings and events, meeting reviews, contact information, chapter news and community events. The national newsletter, Forum, provides national Mothers & More news, articles that address family issues, and members' submissions from the "frontlines" of motherhood. National and Chapter Websites - Check out our national Mothers & More website and our Essex County website. They are great resources for information on Mothers & More plus our local activities. Moms Night Out - Once a month we embrace an evening without the kids by going to a movie, a restaurant, comedy club, coffe house, having a pot luck dinner, games night, etc. It's purely social and always fun! Care Committee - This group helps cement our chapter into the community by supporting members in times of need, like when someone has a baby, a family emergency, or any time someone needs a hand. Volunteers provide meals, shopping or running errands for members in need. Charity Outreach - Our Charity Coordinator keeps a list of women's shelters and other worthy causes seeking donations of food, toiletries, diapers, etc. Once a month we collect for charities at our monthly meetings, making donating as easy as possible. Seasoned Moms Group - This group consists of mothers of school-aged children. Members gather during the school day to discuss topics such as back-to-school nights, playground bullies, materialism, peer pressure, and other issues relevant to our older children. Scrapbooking Club - This club provides fellow croppers (and newbie croppers) time away to work on their scrapbooks. This may be the only time you get to work on it! We meet twice per month on Monday nights at 7:30 pm. This club is not limited to people who already have been cropping. If you are interested and have never cropped before, please join us. Please bring with you your tools to use (paper, cutters, adhesive, etc.). Cooking Club - This club is for members with a passion for cooking, or not. Maybe there is a favorite dish you want to learn to make or a favorite dish you want to teach someone else how to make. We meet once per quarter at alternating houses. The host decides what dish they would like to make. After the cooking demonstration, we will all sit down to sample our creation! |
