| Contact: Charles A. Morse, Superintendent of Schools, Phone: 827-5567 Suspicious Letter Received at Middleburgh Middle/High School On Friday, November 30, a suspicious piece of mail was found at the Middleburgh Middle/High School. School officials immediately notified authorities to investigate in accordance with the school district's safety policy. The Schoharie County Sheriff's Department, New York State Troopers, the Schoharie County Health Department and the Schoharie County Fire Coordinator were all contacted. Through initial investigation, it was concluded by all participants that there was minimal to no risk of exposure to students. In the interest of safety for students and staff, the decision was made to dismiss school around 12:00 p.m. Parents of middle school students were notified by phone by the School's Crisis Safety Management Team. Those students, believed to have had possible contact with the letter, had to be detained at the school in order to determine if further safety measures were warranted. The students were asked to take preventative measures such as washing their hands. The parents of those students were asked to come to the school to pick up the students. State Police have transported the material to the New York State Police Lab in Albany for testing. We won't know any results until sometime over the weekend, says Charles A. Morse, Middleburgh Superintendent. Parents can check the school's two Web sites, or call the Hotline at 827-7666, to obtain the latest update. |
