Notegate I'd like to build a "note-gate". My note gate device works like a "noise gate", which triggers on changes in volume, but the notegate only triggers on introduction of signals in a certain frequency range, or even on a certain, particular note. Note gate triggers on the note from the bass drum, ignoring the strike of the snare. Note-gate boosts the volume on the high note sung by the soprano. Note gate boosts the volume on the low note of the electric bass. Note gate blows the lid off an old recording-engineer's trade secret: Most of these guys do this already, using a compressor triggered through a graphic equalizer. My only argument for notegate is that I believe I know a way to do it better. I know a way to build a device that reacts faster, and has a frequency response curve that's much sharper. What's really cool is when you use one of these things to offset the fall-off on the low-frequency end of an instrument amplifier's frequency-response curve - particularly when it's the bass amplifier....
