Psalm 36

Psalm 36 describes David's prophetic revelation about the true nature of the antipathy expressed by his political enemies:

The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, [that there is] no fear of God before his eyes. For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful...he hath left off to be wise, [and] to do good. Psalm 36:1-3 (ellipses mine).

I'm sure David had his detractors. Were David king today, his enemies would be highly visible, wagging their heads on TV during David's "state of the union" addresses.

But God is the one who "exalts one, and abases another". What David took to heart was a prophetic revelation: It's never good to rebel against the man whom God has established in the office he has instituted for earthly authority - no matter how you flatter yourself over the legitimacy of your rationalizations for it. It seldom hurts to "agreeably disagree" with God's choice for leadership, but it never goes good for the man whose rebellion goes so far as to challenge
God.

The man who does that, is
cruising for a bruising.
