Psalm 46

Here's a Psalm whose meaning may only be fully appreciated by a worshiper-outdoorsman:

[There is] a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy [place] of the tabernacles of the most High. Psalm 46:4.

In my home town there is a confluence of two rivers, and the larger of the two is bounded by an aging, still-attractive river-walk. Many times I have walked along the river, enjoying the scenery along its banks, and the sight of its smooth flowing, placid waters - up to the point, that is, where the two rivers join and flow over a dam.

Rushing abruptly over the dam, the rivers' waters get real noisy.

It's quite a contrast to the placid waters found upstream.

In every great river, of course, there is a hidden - but quite powerful - "channel" current, and an awareness of the danger in the power of the under-tow of a river's channel current is shared by every outdoorsman who has ever experienced it.

There is a similar "danger" to be faced in praise and worship, for there is a worship experience in God so strong, that it sweeps away an entire congregation...into spiritual
ecstasies!

Would to God he should grant ever-more opportunities to experience this!
