Sonic Cruiser Boeing wants to take us into new territory, by building the Sonic Cruiser. Flying much faster than conventional passenger jet aircraft, the Sonic Cruiser could significantly curtail flight times - though somehow, nobody seems to care. Certainly, not the airlines. I really don't care, either, whether I get to my destination more quickly - jets are fast enough - but I really would like to spend less time fussing over my baggage. And I'd rather the airline didn't make me wait while they take so much time with baggage loading (and unloading), either. That's why I'd like to see some airline buy the "Sonic Leap-Frog Baggage Cruiser": Let that fast jet carry my baggage, taking off a half-hour late but making it up in flight, even catching up and passing the jet carrying us passengers, even arriving a half-hour early, so that the airline can have the baggage ready to pick up the moment we passengers reach our gate. So here's my opinion, Boeing, Airlines, and US Gov't, if you're interested: 1) The Sonic Cruiser should be built as a cargo aircraft. 2) It needs to be capable of rapid loading and unloading, and big enough to offload all the 737's luggage (or the first-class luggage from a 747). 3) It needs to be big enough to carry an SUV-sized car. I suppose the ideal size for a Sonic Cruiser may be midway between the size of a 737, and a learjet. It could make an ideal corporate aircraft, it it were faster than the learjet, yet small enough to land on moderate-sized (Learjet type) runways. It could be built in a military variant, for rapid deployment of security forces (in its military configuration, of course, it should be capable of mid-air refueling). Anybody out there?
