Corregidor
Bataan

Corregidor,
a national shrine, is an island fortress
nicknamed "The Rock". This was the last bastion
to fall
to the invading Japanese in 1942. The place acquired
immense significance as a symbol of the determined resistance
of its Filipino and American defenders. Above photo
shows one of the cannons that broods silently over the
landscape which was once
denuded by bombardment.
