William Werner was born July 31, 1854 in Dickweiler, Commune d'Rosport, Luxembourg, immigrating to the United States in 1880 with his older brother, Nicolaus. William settled in Dakota County, Minnesota where he married Katherine Weber January 11, 1882. He died in Vermillion, Minnesota on January 3, 1939 at the age of 84.

Katherine Weber was born on April 26, 1856 at Bigelbach, Commune d'Diekirch, Luxembourg. In 1881, when she was 25, she immigrated to the United States with two of her brothers. She and William had eight children, four girls and four boys, and raised them on their farm in Dakota County. Katherine lived for 17 years after the death of her husband, dying in Vermillion, Minnesota on December 1, 1955 at the venerable old age of 99 years, 7 months, and five days.
