Sherry’s Corner

***PLEASE READ YOU NEWSLETTER & CALENDAR!!!! Our organization is VERY busy!! It is hard to do practice with girls missing!

We are learning the shows and it’s difficult for the girls there to learn formations with kids missing. It is very important that all members be at practice.

Please read the newsletter and remember practice dates!!

***Seniors, please note the change in practice dates. The March 20th practice has been changed to Sunday, March 21st from 8am-noon. Please mark this on your calendar!!

The practice dates are finished through the end of May. These are all of the practices we will have before summer practice starts. All dates are tentative and will only change if there is a conflict with a competition.

PITT practices

March- There will be practice every Sunday in March.

April- Dates to be announced. Please check the

calendar at the studio for updates!

We are so fortunate to get Pitt for practices. The girls who are going are getting better and better! I wish all the girls would take advantage of the Pitt practices!

***Juveniles, please take advantage of the free Sunday practices!! Only about half of the corps is showing up.

You cannot be a competition twirler and only have the baton in your hand once a week. All Modernettes should be twirling at least 3 days a week.

Solo students should be twirling 5 days a week!

***Pat & I had a nice time at the Mystery Dinner. This organization takes a LOT of hard work.

We all need to help and to be supportive of those in charge of fundraisers and other events.

Thanks to Debbie Lafferty and her group of helpers for making the Mystery Dinner such a fun time.

***Our Pa State competition is not only a fundraiser, but we do it for the NBTA and for our reputation as well. It takes so much work.

Please help out and be positive and supportive!!

***This is the most organized I have ever seen this organization!! I know everyone is busy and it is hard to keep up with practices and deadline dates.

It is each person’s responsibility to do so!

 State Competition-

This years State Competition will be held at Southpointe on Sunday, April 4th. We need all parents to help with this competition.

If you have not yet signed up for something, please look on the board at the studio for an open time in any of the following categories: trophy table, tabulations, concession (kitchen) and clean up.

Clean up is a good option for those parents who have daughters competing that day!

Please arrive at the competition at your assigned time. For those who will be setting up Saturday night, please be there at 7:30.

We may be able to get in earlier, and we will let you know if the time changes. All Modernette members must help as well. All girls must sign up to be runners.

This means they will run papers back and forth for the judges. We also need some older girls to be clerks as well.

If your daughter has not signed up to run or clerk, please do so asap! The time schedule is on the board at the studio.

Once the runner spots have been filled, all Modernettes who still are not signed up will be used in other areas such as the kitchen and clean up.

This year, we are once again asking for a $10.00 per family donation to help stock the concession stand at the competition.

This is easier than having all the parents make or buy food worth ten dollars, and having you haul it over to the competition at 6:00 am for kitchen set up.

Everyone should have received a flyer explaining everything. Check the board if you did not get yours.

You can send in a check made out to the Modernettes, send in cash, or you can get a donation worth at least ten dollars from a grocery store or food store (Giant Eagle, Sam’s Club, Shop N Save, etc.) Please put your check or store donation in an envelope with you name on it and place it in the envelope provided on the board at the studio. We must have everyone’s money by March 23rd or 24th. Thank you!!!

***A reminder…The board is having its final meeting on the State Competition on March 23rd, at 7:00pm at the studio.

All people chairing a job will be asked to attend. Please mark this on your calendar. See you there!

Thanks parents!! Kudos to Sharon Mautino for figuring out who murdered Ted and winning the pen and T-shirt!!

Warm Up Suits & Bags-

Attention all new members… Its time to order warm ups and bags! Paula Scarlato will be sizing up all Juvenile members for warm ups at 6:30 on March 19th at the studio.

This is right before corps practice that night. She will have different sizes for the girls to try on. At least one parent MUST be present during sizing.

A $50.00 deposit is required that night in the form of a check made out to the Modernettes or a money order.

The cost of the jacket is $45.00, the pants are $30.00 and the bag is $31.00. The balance will be due when everything comes in.

If you will NOT be there, please call Paula at 412-233-3516.

If you are a new senior, or an old member needing a to order a new size warm up suit, please see Paula at the Senior practices.

Seniors, you are reminded to return your completed reservation form for Al’s Café, Cosmic Bowling and the sleepover on March 26th to Mary Kay Borowski by March 10th!! Remember that you are responsible for the cost of anything you order at Al’s. Modernettes will be paying for the Bowling!!  Bring snacks to share for the sleepover!

Meet at the studio at 7:00pm to car pool. Dinner is from 7:30-9:30pm bowling is from 10pm-midnight, and the sleepover party is 12:30am-8:30am. Sounds like fun!!

Community Service Project-

We have been looking into doing a community service project for all the corps members.

We think it is important for the Modernettes as a group to get more involved in the community.

Sherry and the board have discussed having the girls visit a nursing home and spend some time with the residents there.

This could involve reading to them and even performing for them by dancing. We thought it would be extra special if we visited a nursing home where a

member of the corps may have a relative staying. If you have someone you love in a nursing home, please

contact Carol Killinger and we will try to visit that home. Sometime in June looks to be the best month for doing

this project. More information will follow soon.

Email Addresses-

Susan Earley still needs most of the email addresses for the Juvenile corps.

Please fill out your email address on the paper provided at the studio as soon as possible.

Once we get everyone’s address, we will be able to email you information about the corps!

It will be just one more way to bring you up to date on important issues, practices dates and times, changes that have been made, and fundraising information!

Treasurers Report $$-

This includes your first corps payment, money for Night at the Races, Mystery Dinner and the Chinese Auction.

and you fill out a reimbursement request along with all receipts.

Fundraisers-

Sarris Easter candy and Avon pick up will be on Sunday, March 28th , between 10:00-11:30 am at the

studio. Please remember to come and pick up your fundraiser. April fundraisers will be Panara Bread, and

the State Competition. May fundraiser will be Joe Corbi’s pizza, and Granny’s pizza and hoagies. This is considered the May fundraiser, although it will be handed out in

April. May 2nd will be the pick up date for pizza and hoagies. We need to do this so the treasurers can get the information together for final goal account statements.
