Church History

Mohegan P.H. Church was built in 1976.
Many gave of their time, talents
and their money to see the church built.
This page is the history of
our Church, as well as a dedication
to those who have given
to help our Church to grow
and prosper.

Kenneth Mitchem, Carpenter.
Kenneth came from Roanoke
to help build the Church.

James Mitchem (Jim Ed),
brother of Kenneth Mitchem.
Jim Ed helped in any area that he could.

Many throughout the community helped
to build the Church, offered their
services without charge to the Church.

Frank White, Sr.
Donated the first $1,500.00
to begin construction of
the Church.

Others who gave donations were:
Carl White and Elmer Craft, Sr.

During the latter part of 1978,
the Church was suffering financially
and could not meet their debts.
The doors were going to be closed.

Francis Young, a member of the Church,
went to several friends and neighbors,
asking for help with sales to keep
the doors open, to pay the bills.

Many members of the Church,
impossible to mention every name,
but there were three ladies who were
not christians at the time, who worked
many long hours to raise the money so
that the doors would not be closed.

Special recognition goes out
to these dedicated ladies.

Ministries within the local Church under
these pastors included:

10:00 AM Sunday School
7:00 PM Worship Service
(on both Sunday and Thursday Nights)

There was also an active
Ladies Ministry and Youth Ministry.

MISSION STATEMENT

To train, teach and equip the saints for service,
and to reap the harvest for the Glory of God.

John 4:35
Say not ye, there are yet four months
and then cometh harvest...
behold I say unto you,
lift up your eyes, and look on the fields,
for they are white already to harvest.

RECENT DONATIONS FOR
IMPROVEMENTS TO OUR CHURCH

Frank White, Jr.
Gave a donation of $500.00
for new carpet in our Fellowship Hall

Donated land for parking needs.

Donated Statue of Jesus with a
memorial plaque in memory of the
Mothers of Our Church,
Lizzie Stump, Stella Bishop and
Delphia White.

The Community
Worked to replace the roof and make
necessary repairs, all without
charge to the Church.

Brother Hamilton
Donated his time and dozer work.

Many of our Members
Through faithfully committing their tithes
and offerings have supported the financial
needs of our Church, making it possible
for the Church to purchase a baptistery,
heat pump, build a new fellowship hall
and kitchen, new class rooms, and the
14x56 trailer, which we have completely
remodeled.

We have placed vinyl siding on the outside
of the Church, this has been recently
completed during the Fall of 2000.
