David Jacobs, brother to Les and Sarah and son of Mayer and Ester. He seems to definately be one of the better off of the newsie clan since he has a home, family and people 'tucking him in at night'. He was dubbed 'the Walking Mouth' by Spot Conlon, assumed leader of Brooklyn. The name stuck as he never seems to be able to stop talking, especially when he feels he is right. This newbie newsie quit school and joined the working boys of New York after his father got in an accident at his work and was unable to continue his job, causing his removal from the factory. He was a very influencial figure in the Newsie Strike of 1899 and even though he might not have been the one on the statue screaming about the rights of the newsies, he was definitely at the foot of it giving his co-leader, Jack Kelly, advice on what to say. What Davie lacks in street-smarts he makes up in book-smarts, since he did go to school and will resume his schooling once his father gets his job back. He is also known for his tactful handling of dificult people, knowing just how to speak to them to get the correct results, using tactics such as flattery. |
