Win came in the first round of a new season-opening tournament, the North-South Classic, and set up a semifinal game against Manchester (a 67-49 winner over the Maggie Walker Governor's School) at Manchester.
Graham scores 27 points and has five assists. Clarke scores 23, with 17 rebounds. Brian Shin and Micheaux Taylor also score in double figures as the Chiefs keep a double-figure lead throughout much of the game.

  7 CLOVER HILL W 60-34 Chiefs open the new year with a strong defensive effort that turns a close game into a rout.
Up only 24-19 at halftime, Monacan wears down the visitors with a half-court trapping defense in the second half, outscoring the Cavaliers 36-15.
Brian Shin scores 22 points and grabs 20 rebounds in the Dominion District win. Michael Graham adds 17 as the Chiefs even their record at 4-4.

PPD Monacan-Wythe games of Thursday (girls) and Friday (boys) are postponed. "School officials mutually agreed to postpone the games because of the recent death of a Monacan student who was known in both communities," said Debra Q. Marlow, spokeswoman for Chesterfield County schools, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. "Because of the conflict in those communities, we don't want it to come to school." No charges have been filed in the shooting death of Monacan student Elon Nelson, a 16-year-old who was killed at a South Richmond apartment Dec. 20. The girls game has been rescheduled for Feb. 9, boys for Jan. 31.
12 at Varina W 95-89 Michael Graham and Brian Shin combine for 61 points in leading Chiefs to a comeback win over Varina.
Blue Devils enter the game 8-3, which would get them the No. 10 ranking in the next morning's weekly Metro rankings. They jump to a 69-64 lead after three quarters of this high-scoring game. But Chiefs come back with a 31-20 edge in the fourth for the win.
Graham scores 31 and Shin 30 as Chiefs have a rare 30-30. Shin also pulls down 18 rebounds, adding another double-double. Michaeux Taylor scores 14 points.

L 75-78 Chiefs nearly knock off the area's No. 1 team, coming back from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit before falling just short. Game was played on Saturday, rescheduled from Jan. 9.
Tight game throughout, with Monacan trailing only 54-50 before Wythe goes on a 8-0 run late in the third quarter, thanks to two long three-pointers by Wythe's Tyree Evans, the area's top scorer. Wythe stretches the lead to 66-52 by scoring the first basket of the final quarter before Monacan starts its comeback.
Chief's full-court pressure cause problems for the Bulldogs and Monacan gets balanced scoring, plus some key three-pointers by Michaux Taylor to close the gap to just 74-73 with nearly two minutes to play. But Monacan can't cash in on a couple of scoring opportunities down the stretch and Wythe hits free throws to seal the victory.
Evans scores 41 for Wythe. Chiefs are led by Taylor (21 points), Brian Shin (18), Michael Graham (13) and Paul Nicholas (11).

L 62-71 Chiefs' second loss in three days to a Top 10 team, this one also coming in the fourth quarter after a nice comback.
Trailing 21-14 after a quarter, Monacan rallies to go up by one, 49-48, entering the fourth. But Huguenot holds the Chiefs to 13 points and wins going away. Loss wasted double-figure scoring by four Chiefs: Michael Graham (16), Michaux Taylor (15), Chris McReynolds (14) and Brian Shin (13).
Note: District game was rescheduled from Jan. 26 because of snow/ice. Non-district game at Thomas Dale scheduled for this date was canceled.

Monacan puts three scorers in double figures, led by Michael Graham with 28. Brian Shin adds 15 and Michaux Taylor, 12. Meanwhile, Chiefs hold the Central Region's leading scorer, Tyree Evans, to just 18 points.

    Chiefs had trailed by 10 entering the fourth period but rallied to force overtime.
    Monacan scoring was led by Michael Grahm 27, Brian Shin 17 and Chris McReynolds 12.

    17 CLOVER HILL W 69-49 #4 seed Chiefs use dominating defense and a strong second-and-third-quarter run to stop #5 Clover Hill in the Dominion District Tournament first round. Win advances Monacan to district semifinals and also assures them of one of the Dominion's four spots in next week's Central Region tournament.
    Clover Hill was without top scorer D.J. Short (broken foot) but trailed only 20-18 before Chiefs went on a 7-0 run late in the second quarter. Run was punctauted by Brian Shin's steal and breakaway dunk attempt that hit the rim, bounded in the air -- and came down in the basket. Chiefs stretched the lead to 10-plus points in the third quarter and 20-plus in the fourth. Michael Graham scores 21 points for the Chiefs. Shin has 19, with 15 rebounds.
    Monacan next plays #3 seed Wythe, a 29-18 winner in a slowdown game with #6 Manchester.

    Monacan, the No. 4 Dominion District team, trails by five points at the end of the first quarter to the No. 1 Capitol District seed.
