Using smothering defense, Monacan jumps out to a quick lead after one quarter and carries a 26-16 edge into the locker room at half.       1 MEADOWBROOK W 70-64 The Chiefs and Monarchs play a nip and tuck first half, but Monacan is plagued by foul trouble and turnovers. The Chiefs keep working hard and take their first lead of the game with three minutes left in the third quarter. Meadowbrook doesn't go away and leads by 1 heading into the fourth quarter. Monacan regains the lead and stretches it to seven, 61-54, with just under three minutes to play. Clutch free throws and tough defense seal the victory and allow the Chiefs to start the season on a positive note.
    Meadowbrook---------------- 19 16 15 14 -- 64
    Monacan---------------------- 15 18 16 21 -- 70
    Scoring: Brothers 23, Gibson 13, Rannals 11, Stemmle 11, Patterson 5, Green 4, Adkins 2, Davis 1.
7 HUGUENOT W 53-44 Monacan could not shake Huguenot until the fourth quarter but manages their first district win of the season. The Chiefs lack of defensive intensity, poor ball handling and shooting keeps the game close, with the Falcons leading 33 - 31 after 3. Rannals hits a 3 point basket to start Monacan in the fourth quarter and steals by Rankin and Brothers allow the Chiefs to stretch their lead. Huguenot stays within striking distance due to missed free throws by Monacan down the strecth, but Brothers makes a steal and lays it in to close the deal.
    Huguenot--------------------- 11   9 13 11 -- 44
    Monacan---------------------- 14 11   6 21 -- 53
    Scoring: Brothers 18, Rannals 13, Stemmle 8, Adkins 5, Green 4, Patterson 3, Gibson 2.
9 at Manchester W 80-71 The Chiefs outmatch the Lancers to win their third in a row. Monacan uses defense to strecth a 10 point halftime lead to 21 at the end of the third quarter. Manchester fights back, cutting the lead to 8, but it is not enough, as the Chiefs prevail, 80 - 71. Gibson leads all scorers with 24.
    Manchester------------------ 22 14 12 23 -- 71
    Monacan---------------------- 26 20 23 11 -- 80
    Scoring: Gibson 24, Brothers 17, Rannals 9, Stemmle 8, Rankin 8, Patterson 6, Green 4, Adkins 2, Hertzog 2.
16 MIDLOTHIAN W 57-27 Monacan finishes 2005 undefeated with a lopsided win over rival Midlothian. The Chiefs put it all together for the first time this season and their quickness and defensive intensity is too much for the Trojans. Rannals scores and distributes the ball, achieving a double-double (16 points, 10+ assists). Coach Bradford uses his entire bench substituting liberally throughout the second-half.
    Midlothian-------------------  10   2   8 7 -- 27
    Monacan---------------------- 21 15 16 5 -- 57
    Scoring: Rannals 16, Wiggins 2, Green 2, Dandridge 0, Patterson 4, Adkins 5, Harden 1, Brothers 6, Stemmle 5, Davis 2, Hertzog 2, Rankin 6, Gibson 6.
    Jan.
4 at James River W 66-48 Monacan continues their defensive intensity after the holiday break jumping out to a 13-4 lead after the first quarter. The Rapids try to keep it close but the Chiefs carry a 10-point lead into halftime. After the half, Monacan really turns up the heat and strikes quickly stretching the lead to 14 halfway through the 3rd quarter and pushing it to 24 by the end. Again, Coach Bradford has the luxury of resting his starters for the remainder of the game and the Chiefs take their fifth without a loss.
    James River------------------  4 17 11 16 -- 27
    Monacan---------------------- 13 18 25 10 -- 66
    Scoring: Rannals 16, Wiggins 0, Green 5, Dandridge 0, Patterson 5, Adkins 2, Harden 1, Brothers 15, Stemmle 12, Davis 0, Hertzog 4, Rankin 2, Gibson 7.
6 L.C. BIRD W 60-48 The Chiefs continue their undefeated season with a convincing 60-48 win over the Skyhawks. Leading by 7 at halftime, Monacan’s intensity both on defense and on the boards never allows Bird back into the game. Technical and flagrant fouls by Bird allow the Chiefs to stretch their lead to as much as 21 and they withstand a late surge to capture their 6th win.
    LC Bird---------------------- 17   8   5 18 -- 48
    Monacan--------------------- 20 12 19 10 -- 60
    Scoring: Rannals 22, Green 1, Adkins 0, Harden 0, Brothers 18, Stemmle 11, Davis 0, Rankin 6, Gibson 2.
11 at Clover Hill W 56-39 Monacan plays Clover Hill in a game of runs but the Cavaliers are no match for the Chiefs. Monacan uses a 10-2 run to end the first quarter to take command, 17-10. The Cavaliers are down 21 to start the fourth quarter but go on their own 8-0 run to try to get back into the game. The Chiefs are just too much and win another district game going away.
    Clover Hill------------------- 10 8   5 16 -- 39
    Monacan---------------------- 17 8 19 12 -- 56
    Scoring: Rannals 11, Wiggins 0, Green 1, Dandridge 0, Patterson 8, Adkins 3, Harden 2, Brothers 13, Stemmle 8, Davis 0, Hertzog 0, Rankin 0, Gibson 10.
13 at George Wythe W 75-68 The Chiefs run their record to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the district with a win over the Bulldogs. Monacan seizes control at the beginning building a 13-point lead by halftime. The Chiefs use a full court press to stretch their lead to 22 points to start the fourth quarter but momentum shifts as the Bulldogs go on a 16-0 run. Monacan’s defense stiffens and Rannals (6-8) and Brothers (10-12) hit clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Stemmle leads all scorers with 22.
    Monacan------------------------  22 11 23 19 -- 75
    George Wythe----------------- 12   8 18 30 -- 68
    Scoring: Rannals 8, Wiggins 0, Green 4, Patterson 0, Adkins 8, Harden 2, Brothers 19, Stemmle 22, Davis 0, Rankin 2, Gibson 12.
18 at Huguenot W 67-53 Monacan continues their undefeated season with another road victory. The Chiefs overcome a sluggish start to take a 17 – 10 lead at the end of one. Even though the Chiefs are suffering from foul trouble in the front-court, two 3-point field goals by Rannals allows Monacan to take an 11 point halftime lead. The Chiefs stretch the lead to 15 points but the Falcons make a run of their own cutting the lead to 9 with 5 minutes remaining. An “and 1” plus another driving lay-up by Brothers with 3:15 left allows Monacan to regain a comfortable margin and earn their 8th district win.
    Monacan------------------ 17 18 15 17 -- 67
    Huguenot----------------- 12 12 12 17 -- 53
    Scoring: Rannals 9, Green 9, Patterson 9, Adkins 4, Brothers 19, Stemmle 4, Davis 0, Rankin 0, Gibson 13.
20 MANCHESTER W 58-48 The Chiefs use a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Lancers for their tenth win without a loss. Monacan controls the game from the onset but poor free throw shooting keeps Manchester close and they cut an 18 point margin to 9 with thirty seconds to go in the 3rd quarter. The Chiefs spread the floor and push the lead to 14 before Coach Bradford begins pulling his starters and Monacan cruises to a 10 point win.
    Manchester-------------- 11   4 20 13 -- 48
    Monacan------------------ 18 13 14 13 -- 58
    Scoring: Rannals 11, Wiggins 0, Green 3, Dandridge 0, Patterson 13, Adkins 0, Harden 0, Brothers 10, Stemmle 9, Davis 0, Hertzog 0, Rankin 3, Gibson 9.
23 at Matoaca W 60-48 Monacan ups their record to 11-0 with a non-district win over Matoaca.       6 at Hopewell W 67-64 The Chiefs pull one out with under a minute remaining to improve to 16-0 by earning a non-district win at Hopewell. After the game Coach Daniel says: “the Blue Devils gave it away at the end…we played no defense, didn’t rebound and just got lucky.” The game was up and down from the beginning and Monacan had a hard time staying with the quick, under-sized Hopewell squad, which uses a 12-4 run to lead 35-27 at the half. The Chiefs showed some grit in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Blue Devils 21-11 to take a two-point lead heading into the final period. The 4th quarter was back and forth with Hopewell retaking the lead 54-51 with five minutes to play.
