The Falcons recover and begin chipping away at the lead and tie the game right before the half, 30-30, but the Chiefs still lead by 2 going into the break. Huguenot asserts its quickness and size in the 2nd half, outscoring Monacan 18-9 in the 3rd period. The 4th quarter starts with Chief turnovers resulting in 7 straight Falcon points, including a dunk and a 3-point basket. Monacan continues to battle and will not give up making the final margin respectable but on this night they have no answer for Huguenot. Darien Brothers and Lance Hughes lead the Chiefs scoring 16 & 14, respectively. Monacan will play in the first round of the Central Region Tournament on Monday, Feb. 19th.

L 82-49 |
First round of the Central Region Tournament. The Chiefs will open the tournament with the #2 ranked (metro area) and #1 seed Springers at Highland Springs. The Chiefs end their season losing to the #1 seed Springers (also tied for #1 ranking in the state). The final score is not an indication of poor execution or effort by Monacan but superior talent, size, depth and quickness by Highland Springs. The game starts on a favorable note for the Chiefs with Coron Williams hitting three 3-point baskets in the 1st quarter. The Springers start to gain an advantage mid-way through the 2nd period but is still close, 20-17, when Williams goes to the bench with is 3rd personal foul. From that point until 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, Highland Springs goes on a 24-3 tear to blow the game open. There are few Chief's highlights in the 2nd half but Alex Rannals scores 7 during the 3rd and Darien Brothers hits from beyond mid-court to beat the buzzer and cut the margin to 55-38. The threat of a comeback never materializes as Monacan is held scoreless for the first 3:15 of the 4th period. Williams and Brothers are the only Chiefs to reach double figures with 16 points a piece.
Congratulations to the Chiefs on a season full of ups and downs but one in which they continued to battle, losing many close contests. The leadership of seniors Lance Hughes, Daniel Roberson and Jarod Ficklin will be missed next year.

Preview
| Richmond Times-Dispatch December 1, 2006
Coach: Scott Thackston
Last season: 9-5, 12-13
Key players: Lance Hughes, 5-11, Sr., PG; Coron Williams, 6-0, Jr., G; Darien Brothers, 6-1, So., G/F; C.J. Dortch, 6-2, Jr., F.
Outlook: Youthful Chiefs grew measurably during a late-season run that included winning district tournament. Hughes is catalyst. Williams (16 ppg) and Brothers (10 ppg) are known scorers. Dortch is good rebounder despite his size, and he can score. Roster also includes players from last year's undefeated JV team.

The Monacan Chiefs fall behind early to L.C. Bird as they are unable to get their shots to drop and have problems at the free throw line. However, the Chiefs battle back to pull within one, 25-24, at halftime. A quick start by L.C Bird to begin the second half and foul trouble prove to be too much for the young Chiefs to overcome as they fall to a tough Skyhawk team 60-45.

Monacan JV lost a close one to a very tall James River team Friday night. MIDLOTHIAN |
W 51-35 |
After a sluggish start, Garrett Patterson came off the bench to help the Chiefs take a two point lead going into halftime. An inspired and tenacious defensive effort in the third quarter led to numerous steals and several easy transition baskets, virtually putting the game out of reach. Monacan outscored Midlothian 15-2 and took a 15 point lead into the fourth quarter. For the first time this year, Coach Roberson was able to clear the bench in the fourth quarter to allow everyone to gain valuable and well-deserved playing time in this 51-35 win over Midlothian. After an 0-3 start, Monacan has won five of their last six games to improve to 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the District. Keep up the good work!
