5 L.C. BIRD L 84-54 The Chiefs are unable to match-up with the hot shooting Skyhawks in their season opener. Monacan fell behind early and no matter what defensive scheme they used, Bird managed to keep stretching the lead throughout the game. The Skyhawks, ranked 9th in the pre-season poll, combined to hit ten 3-point shots to easily secure the district win. Sean Armstrong (16) and Alex Rannals (13) led the Chiefs in scoring.

  •   7 at Manchester L 63-60 Monacan is down by 10 points for most of the game but picks up the defensive intensity and comes roaring back in the 4th quarter to force overtime. The Chiefs actually take a lead, 49-47, with 90 seconds to go when a block by Cedric Erving leads to 2 free throws by Brandon Green. The game is tied, 51-51 with 10 seconds remaining in regulation when Sean Armstrong drives to the basket to give Monacan a lead. The Lancers tie it up on a last second put back of a missed 3-point shot to send it to overtime. The game see-saws back and forth in OT and the Chiefs get a nice driving layup from Alex Rannals and a great dish form Clyde Long to Brandon Green that evens the score at 60 apiece. Manchester holds the ball for the last shot and the Chiefs force them way outside on the perimeter but a heave at the buzzer goes in off the backboard to give the Lancers the victory. Green leads the Chiefs with 23; Joey Stemmle contributes 11 and Armstrong 10.
    Monacan -----------------------------   9   8 14 22   7 -- 60
    Manchester ------------------------- 14 13 13 13 10 -- 63
    Scoring: Rannals 5, Green 23, Wiggins 0, Simmons 0, Erving 3, Long 6, Davis 0, Harden 0, Armstrong 10, Gibson 2, Stemmle 11. Totals 23 14-25 60.
10 at Thomas Jefferson W 63-62 The Chiefs pick up their first victory of the season in a non-district game that is close all the way. Monacan stretches the lead to 9 points in the 4th quarter but the Vikings don't give up and use 3-point shots to cut into the lead. The Chiefs had a 4-point cushion when T.J. hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make the final margin 63-62. Brandon Green leads Monacan again with 22, Clyde Long (11) and Joey Stemmle (10) also score in double figures.
    Monacan ---------------------------------- 13 11 21 18 -- 63
    Thomas Jefferson ---------------------  16 10 17 19 -- 62
    Scoring: Rannals 8, Green 22, Erving 0, Long 11, Davis 0, Harden 0, Armstrong 4, Gibson 8, Stemmle 10. Totals 26 9-13 63. 3-point goals: Long, Rannals.
12 at Cosby W 51-50 Monacan upsets 10th ranked Cosby in a big district road win. The Chiefs come out blazing; Alex Rannals, Brandon Green and Sean Armstrong each hit two 3-pointers to account for all of Monacan's scoring in the first quarter and an 18-13 lead after one. No more treys but two assists by Clyde Long result in baskets by Mike Gibson and Joey Stemmle (3-point play) to give the Chiefs a 29-23 margin at the half. Each team goes on a run in the 3rd quarter but the period ends with Monacan still on top by 6. An 8-0 run at the start of the 4th quarter by the Titans puts them right back in the game. A couple of big defensive rebounds by Long limits the Titans chances and allows the Chiefs to pull ahead 49-47 with a minute to play but Cosby sinks a 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining to go ahead by 1. The game winner comes with 13 seconds left on a drive by Green who dishes to Stemmle to finsh off the Titans. Stemmle leads all scorers with 19 and Armstrong adds 11.
    Monacan ---------------------------------- 18 11 14   8 -- 51
    Cosby -------------------------------------- 13 10 14 13 -- 50

  • 14 HUGUENOT L 54-49 The Chiefs lead a good portion of the game but can't finish off the 5th ranked Falcons. Monacan's defense befuddles Huguenot at the start, allowing the Chiefs to jump out to a 14-4 lead. But it doesn't last as Huguenot scores the last 5 of the first quarter and leads at the half, 25-24. Monacan uses 3-point shots to battle the inside size of the Falcons and re-captures the lead, 39-38, after 3 periods. The game goes back and forth until midway through the 4th quarter when Huguenot begins to dominate and with a minute to play their lead is 8 points. A 3-point shot by Clyde Long and two free throws by Brandon Green cut the lead to 50-46 but that's as close as the Chiefs can get, dropping another district contest, 54-49. Sean Armstong leads Monacan, using four 3-pointers to score 12 of his 15; Green contributes 14.
    Huguenot ---------------------------------   9 16 13 16 -- 54
    Monacan ---------------------------------- 14 10 15 10 -- 49
    Scoring: Rannals 2, Green 14, Wiggins 0, Simmons 0, Erving 4, Long 8, Harden 0, Armstrong 15, Gibson 0, Stemmle 6. Totals 18 5-8 49. 3-point goals: Green, Erving, Long 2, Armstrong 4.
20 Hermitage @ the Siegel Center L 57-40 1st round of the In-Sync Tournament. Monacan comes out cold and falls behind early only managing to score 4 points in the 1st quarter. The good news is that the Panthers only score 11 but the Chiefs aren't able to cut into the lead until late in the game. Monacan finally finds its offensive stride opening the 4th quarter with an 11-2 run which cuts the lead to 11 but it is too little, too late to change the outcome. Monacan will fall into the consolation round (see below) while Hermitage advances to the semifinals. Joey Stemmle leads the Chiefs with 9 points.
    Monacan -----------------------------------   4   9   7 20 -- 40
    Hermitage --------------------------------- 11 17 12 17 -- 57

21 Dinwiddie @ the Siegel Center L 60-52 Consolation round of the In-Sync Tournament. The Chiefs use fast breaks to run-out to a 6-point lead after the first quarter but its not enough to overcome the Generals. Monacan leads through the first half but a 17-5 run by Dinwiddie at the end of the 3rd and start of the 4th periods proves decisive. The Chiefs cut into the 12-point deficit using 3 point shots from Cedric Erving, J.C. Wiggins and Brandon Green but the margin is too great and the Generals earn an 8-point victory. Monacan will play again tomorrow in the consolation round. Green is the only Chief to score in double figures with 16.
    Monacan ----------------------------------- 16   9   7 20 -- 52

  • 22 Thomas Dale @ the Siegel Center L 71-61 Consolation round of the In-Sync Tournament. The Chiefs score off the opening tip and lead 2-0 but never lead again. Showing very little intensity on defense or the glass through much of the game, Monacan cannot keep pace with the Knights. The Chiefs trail by 12 at the half and as much as 16 in the 3rd quarter. But Monacan picks up the intensity which sparks a 15-10 run that cuts the lead to 8 with just under 3 minutes remaining. The Chiefs continue to battle and a 3-poiner by Alex Rannals trims the margin to 63-60 with 1:46 left, but Monacan gets no closer, falling 71-61.
    Monacan ----------------------------------- 14 10 16 21 -- 61

2 JAMES RIVER W 65-60 An emotional, foul prone first half finds Monacan down 9 with 5 minutes remaining before the break. But a 19-5 run to end the half and a 5-0 start to the 3rd quarter allows the Chiefs to build a 10-point lead over the Rapids. James River doesn't quit and roars back to close the gap to 51-50 to end the period. In the 4th quarter, Sean Armstrong starts the Chiefs with a 3, Clyde Long adds a nice drive and Cedric Erving gets the assist on another Long lay-up that gives Monacan a 6-point advantage. The Chiefs close out the game hitting clutch free throws and a meaningless 3-pointer by the Rapids is the only reason the margin isn't greater. Brandon Green leads Monacan with 21, Armstrong has 13, Long 12 and Joey Stemmle 11.
    James River ------------------------------ 19 14 17 10 -- 60
    Monacan ----------------------------------- 15 23 13 14 -- 65
    Scoring: Rannals 8, Green 21, Simmons 0, Erving 0, Long 12, Davis 0, Harden 0, Armstrong 13, Gibson 0, Stemmle 11. Totals: 18 25-31 65. 3-point goals: Green 2, Armstrong 2.
4 CLOVER HILL W 58-49 The Chiefs even their district record at 3-3 with a win against the Cavaliers. Clover Hill employs a box-and-1 defense to confuse Monacan and frustrate Brandon Green. But using old fashioned 3-point plays by Joey Stemmle, 3-point baskets by Alex Rannals and Sean Armstrong and a stick-back at the buzzer by Armstrong, Monacan goes to the half leading 29-24. Clover Hill comes out of the break with more intensity and ties the score 31-31 mid-way through the 3rd quarter. The Chiefs start winning the battle of the boards holding the Cavaliers to "one & done" and Mike Gibson uses nifty footwork to score in the paint to strecth the lead back to 8 by the end of the period. The lead stays constant until 3 minutes remain when Clover Hill starts cutting into the margin. Monacan's lead is only 2, 51-49, when Clyde Long hits 2 free throws with 1:17 left on the clock. The Cavaliers have to resort to fouling and the Chiefs convert to win their second district contest since returning from the holidays. Green, Armstrong and Gibson all score 11 to lead Monacan.
    Clover Hill -------------------------------- 15   9 11 14 -- 49
    Monacan ----------------------------------- 15 14 14 15 -- 58
    Scoring: Rannals 7, Green 11, Erving 4, Long 6, Davis 0, Harden 2, Armstrong 11, Gibson 11, Stemmle 6. Totals: 21 13-20 58. 3-point goals: Rannals, Green, Armstrong.
9 at George Wythe W 63-43 Monacan picks up their 4th district win, on the road, defeating George Wythe. It takes awhile for the Chiefs to find their rhythm but they enjoy an 8-point lead over the Bulldogs at the half. In the 3rd quarter, Brandon Green hits two 3-point baskets back-to-back to stretch the lead to 41-26. Sean Armstrong opens the 4th period with a 3-pointer, followed by a strong drive to the basket for 2 more and Mike Gibson adds a stick-back to make it a 20-point margin. From that point on, Monacan is able to clear the bench and put it on cruise control for the first time this season. Green and Gibson score 12 and Armstrong pitches in 11.
    Monacan ----------------------------------- 10 14 17 22 -- 63
    George Wythe ---------------------------    5 11 10 17 -- 43
    Scoring: Rannals 5, Green 12, Wiggins 0, Simmons 2, Erving 0, Long 9, Davis 2, Williams 2, Harden 0, Armstrong 11, Gibson 12, Stemmle 8. Totals: 24 12-19 63. 3-point goals: Green 2, Armstrong.
16 MIDLOTHIAN L 51-46 The Chiefs lose a tough one at home to the Trojans. Agressive defense - denying the post and good inside work by Joey Stemmle puts Monacan out front by 4 after the first period. In the second quarter, Midlothian uses a motion offense to free up the middle and make-up the difference, leading 22-21 at the half. After the break, the Trojans start with a 6-1 run and maintain that margin through the 3rd and the first four minutes of the 4th quarter. The Chiefs cut the lead to 3, 41-38 with 3 minutes remaining; the Trojans stretch it back to 7 with 1:48 left. Monacan uses free throws by Sean Armstrong, Brandon Green and Stemmle to make it 48-46 with 30 seconds to go. But on a night when field goals are hard to come by, the Chiefs get no closer, losing 51-46. Green and Stemmle lead Monacan with 11 apiece and Gibson scores 10.
    Midlothian ---------------------------  10 12 15 14 -- 51
    Monacan ------------------------------ 14   8 10 14 -- 46
    Scoring: Rannals 3, Green 11, Wiggins 0, Simmons 2, Erving 1, Long 0, Davis 2, Harden 0, Armstrong 8, Gibson 10, Stemmle 11. Totals: 11 23-32 46. 3-point goals: Rannals.
18 at L.C. Bird L 54-52 Monacan gives #5 ranked L.C. Bird all it can handle before falling 54-52. The Skyhawks jump out to an early lead but the Chiefs battle back to close the gap to 4-points, 26-22, at halftime. Monacan cuts into the lead at the start of the second half with a 3-point basket by Alex Rannals but then Bird goes on a 14-2 run. The Chiefs, using a 3 from Sean Armstrong, are able to gain a little ground and the 3rd quarter ends with the Skyhawks leading 44-32. Two 3-point baskets by Brandon Green in the early minutes of the 4th quarter keeps Monacan within striking distance, trailing 48-45 with just under 4 minutes remaining. The Chiefs are forced to foul and Bird hits their free throws maintaining their 3-point lead until Clyde Longs hits a trey at the buzzer to account for the final margin. Green leads Monacan with 17 points.
    Monacan ------------------------------   8 14 10 20 -- 52
    L.C. Bird -----------------------------  20   6 18 10 -- 54
    Scoring: Rannals 5, Green 17, Erving 4, Long 8, Davis 0, Harden 0, Armstrong 8, Gibson 6, Stemmle 4. Totals: 17 13-20 52. 3-point goals: Green 2, Rannals, Long, Armstrong.
23 MANCHESTER L 72-70 For the second time this season, the Chiefs lose to the Lancers in overtime. Turnovers plague the Monacan effort as they run to a 8-point lead only to see it evaporate by mid-way through the 3rd period. Trailing 45-41, the Chiefs go on an 8-2 run led by a 3-pointer by Sean Armstrong, a drive by Mike Gibson and a break-away by Tevin Harden to end the quarter. Manchester leads most of the 4th quarter but an old fashioned 3-point play by Monacan's Cedric Erving knots the score at 59. Regulation ends with the score still tied at 61. The game stays fairly even throughout overtime when, with time running out, a short range jumper by Clyde Long ties it at 70-70. The Lancers run the clock down to 4 seconds and call time and then score on the inbounds play to "steal" one from the Chiefs. Gibson, Long and Green all reach double figures.
    Manchester ----------------------------- 10 16 21 14 11 -- 72
    Monacan --------------------------------- 14 16 19 12   9 -- 70
    Scoring: Rannals 6, Green 12, Wiggins 0, Simmons 0, Erving 5, Long 13, Davis 0, Harden 2, Armstrong 9, Gibson 14, Stemmle 9. Totals: 29 9-15 70. 3-point goals: Armstrong 2, Rannals.
25 COSBY L 71-69 Monacan loses a close game to 7th ranked Cosby. The Chiefs set a season high for 3-pointers, making 11 for the game, 5 in the 1st quarter. Monacan leads 16-4, when a strange call by the officials gives the Titans a 5-point play to pull them back into the game. At the half, the Chiefs are up 36-31 due in large part to their long range shooting; Sean Armstrong (2), Alex Rannals (2), Clyde Long (2) and Brandon Green all connect from behind the arch. Armstrong starts the 3rd quarter with another trey but Monacan is outscored by nine, surrendeering the lead. Still trailing in the 4th quarter, Mike Gibson (3 point play) and Joey Stemmle work hard in the paint to make-up the margin. In the last 90 seconds of the game, Long and Green unleash 3 more bombs but Cosby makes their free throws and Monacan suffers another 2-point defeat. Stemmle (15) leads the Chiefs and Long (14) and Gibson (12) also score in double figures.
    Cosby ------------------------------------- 16 15 22 18 -- 71
    Monacan --------------------------------- 22 14 13 20 -- 69
    Scoring: Rannals 6, Green 9, Wiggins 0, Erving 4, Long 14, Davis 0, Harden 0, Armstrong 9, Gibson 12, Stemmle 15. Totals: 26 6-10 69. 3-point goals: Long 4, Armstrong 3, Green 2, Rannals 2.
30 at Huguenot L 64-42 The Chiefs never find any offense as they lose to 7th ranked Falcons. Monacan miss fires on all its 3-point attempts for the night, is out scored 20-4 in the second quarter and never challenges Huguenot. Line and individual scoring not available at this time.

1 at James River W 64-54 Monacan picks up a much needed ditrict win against the Rapids. Alex Rannals knocks down two 3-point baskets and Sean Armstrong converts on a old fashioned 3-point play to put Monacan up 11-4 halfway through the 1st quarter. James River comes back with a couple of 3's and baskets in the paint to take a 2-point lead, 19-17, in the second period. But the Chiefs rally before the break using two more 3-point baskets by Armstrong to lead 32-28. Joey Stemmle starts Monacan on their way to a 22-6 third quarter by scoring the first 7-points of the second half. James River starts chipping away at the Chief's lead, cutting the margin to 58-50 with 1:03 remaining in the game. But Monacan is able to hit enough free throws to go onto a 10 point victory. Armstrong leads the Chiefs with 17, Stemmle adds 13 and Rannals 10.

Clover Hill hits 11 shots from behind the arc accounting for more than half of their total points. Alex Rannals, Clyde Long, and Sean Armstrong all score 9 points to lead the Monacan scorers.

8 GEORGE WYTHE W 83-68 Monacan's offense wakes-up against George Wythe, breaking the 80-point mark for the first time this season. The Chiefs get 20-point efforts from Brandon Green and Joey Stemmle. Sean Armstrong scores 17 and Alex Rannals adds 10, along with 6 assists. Stemmle gets a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds. Monacan uses shots from behind the arc, old fashioned 3-point plays and free throws to put the game out of reach. One of the best plays of the season for the Chiefs occurs in the closing seconds of the first half when Cedric Irving throws a pass from foul line to foul line; Rannals, with his back to the basket, tips it over his head to Armstong for the easy lay-in. Monacan has games Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday this week to close out the regular season.
    George Wythe ------------------------- 17 13 16 22 -- 68

12 THOMAS JEFFERSON W 65-55 The Chiefs pick up a non-district win at home against the Vikings. The 1st quarter highlights include 3-pointers by Brandon Green (2) and Sean Armstrong. Clyde Long and Armstrong show some strong moves to the basket in the 2nd quarter to put Monacan ahead by 5. Using several fast break opportunities, the second half is one of the best displays of team basketball for the Chiefs this season. The breaks are successful in large part due to assists from Long and Alex Rannals. Joey Stemmle, on the scoring end of many of the break aways leads the Monacan scorers with 20, followed by Armstrong (15) and Green (15).

13 STEWARD SCHOOL L 73-64 Senior Night! Monacan runs into a very good League of Independent School team, the Spartans. Alex Rannal's trey and a behind the back assist from Will Simmons to Mike Gibson helps keep the Chiefs close in the 1st quarter. Two 3-pointers by Sean Armstrong and an 1 by Joey Stemmle allow the Chiefs to lead by 2 at the break. Steward's guard play is too much for Monacan to overcome in the 2nd half. The Chief's Armstrong does hit a 3 from beyond half court to end the 3rd quarter and Jeff Connor hits one to end the game. The Chiefs' top scorers are Armstrong and Stemmle with 16 points each. We wish good luck to all the seniors honored tonight: Alex Rannals, Brandon Green, Will Simmons, Clyde Long, Mitch Davis, Mike Gibson, Joey Stemmle, Sarah Price, Leah Karger, Amanda Grenell & Camille Briggs.

15 at Midlothian W 55-43 The Chiefs capture a big district win against arch rival Midlothian. With an electric atmosphere charged by both schools student cheering sections, the Chiefs suffer through a miserable first half but only find themselves down 3 at the break. Monacan's intensity matches the "Maniacs" to start the 2nd half and with the Trojan's center in foul trouble, Joey Stemmle and Mike Gibson take control inside. Stemmle & Gibson benefit from several nice assists from Alex Rannals and Sean Amrstrong leading the Chiefs to a 22-point 3rd quarter. Armstrong gets some work posting up smaller Midlo players and the Chiefs finish strong at the free throw line to bring home the victory. Stemmle has 19 points, followed by Armstrong with 15 and Gibson with 12.

19 @ Manchester L 67-64 First round of the Dominion District Tournament. The Chiefs lose to the Lancers for the third time this season - all in overtime. Monacan is not able to stop Manchester from running the floor and trails by 17 at halftime. The 3rd quarter starts the way the the first half ended and the Chiefs are quickly down by 21. But then the tide turns and Monacan is able to muster an 18-2 run to finish the quarter. The Lancers use a zone to re-take the momentum building a 10-point lead, 59-49, with just under 5 minutes remaining. Again, the Chiefs charge back scoring the next 10 points to tie it with 0:42 on the clock. Manchester hits a jumper with 29 seconds to go and then Sean Armstrong scores on a driving reverse lay-up with 0:07 remaining to send the game to OT. Monacan falls behind in the extra period and can only score 3 points on a trifecta by Alex Rannals which is not enough to extend the season. Joey Stemmle leads all scorers with 22 and Armstrong hits for 14.

5 L.C. BIRD W 68-54 The Junior Chiefs started their season off on the right foot tonight, defeating the visiting LC Bird Skyhawks 68-54. The Chiefs full-court pressure gave the Skyhawks trouble, though Bird managed to go up by 1 at the half. Monacan came out in the second half inspired and outscored the Skyhawks 42-27 to post the win. Congratulations, Junior Chiefs -- keep it up!
Scoring: Anthony Brown 21; Xavier Kier 19; Bradley Riester 18; Jeff Conner 5; Maleek Myers 4; Will Bays 1.
7 at Manchester W 77-48 Monacan's full court pressure gives Manchester trouble as the Chiefs take an 18 point lead after the first quarter. Manchester cuts the lead to 13 by halftime, but Monacan uses its defensive pressure to score 26 points in the third quarter to increase its lead to 31. All players see plenty of action, which should serve the Chiefs well later in the season.
Scoring: Anthony Brown 21; Xavier Kier 16; Maleek Myers 10; Bradley Riester 9; Jeff Conner 6; Will Bays 4; Will Powell 3; Chris Gholson 3; Ian Riester 2; Robert Brown 2; Jordan Thomas 1.
10 at Thomas Jefferson W 59-37 Monacan's full court press overwhelms Thomas Jefferson as the Junior Chiefs coast to a 59-37 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. Great overall team effort, and all players again get valuable playing time.
Scoring: Xavier Kier 14; Jeff Conner 11; Robert Brown 8; Dustin Woody 7; Bradley Riester 6; Jordan Thomas 4; Sterling Young 3; Maleek Myers 2; Sean Graves 2; Anthony Brown 2.
12 at Cosby W 67-52 Monacan continues its winning ways with a decisive win over Cosby, improving its record to 4-0. Monacan starts the game with an impressive alley-oop dunk by Xavier Kier, and Monacan uses tough defense, good ball movement, and impressive 3-point shooting to take a 19 point lead into halftime. Coach Roberson looks to the bench for most of the second half as Monacan rolls to a 67-52 victory over a well coached and disciplined Cosby team.
Scoring: Bradley Riester 16; Xavier Kier 15; Anthony Brown 11; Sterling Young 9; Jeff Conner 8; Will Bays 2; Ian Riester 2; Brinnan Bradshaw 2; Robert Brown 2.
14 HUGUENOT W 79-62 Huguenot comes in with an undefeated record and proves to be a formidable opponent. Monacan takes an early double-digit lead, but Huguenot cuts the lead to 6 going into halftime. Bradley Riester scores a bucket to end the third quarter and scores 8 consecutive points to start the fourth quarter to help Monacan finally pull away from Huguenot. Anthony Brown and Bradley Riester lead the Chiefs with 22 and 20 points, respectively, while Jeff Conner adds 13 and Xavier Kier 12. Monacan finishes the night with a 79-62 victory and goes into the Holiday break with a 5-0 record. Congratulations and keep up the hard work!

2 JAMES RIVER W 81-32 Monacan established control over James River from the jump, dominating both the offensive and defensive ends of the court to coast to an easy 81-32 victory over the visiting James River Rapids. Full-court pressure and tough defense forced turnover after turnover as Monacan scored 46 by the half while holding James River to just 13. Second half was more of the same, with all players seeing plenty of playing time and scoring opportunities. Win #6 for the Junior Chiefs.
Scoring: Anthony Brown 13; Jordan Thomas 13; Jeff Conner 13; Bradley Riester 8; Xavier Kier 8; Sean Graves 8; Will Bays 5; Ian Riester 4; Chris Gholson 3; Brinnan Bradshaw 2; Robert Brown 2; Maleek Myers 2.
4 CLOVER HILL W 53-40 The Junior Chiefs added another notch to the win column, downing the visiting Clover Hill Cavaliers 53-40. Clover Hill kept the game close through half-time (Chiefs up 21-16), but the Chiefs turned up the heat in the third quarter. Numerous steals and 10 points from Anthony Brown in the third, as well as 10 points from Jeff Conners and 2 from Bradley Riester, created too great of a gap for Clover Hill to close with the Chiefs ending the period up 43-29. The Cavaliers were not able to close in on the Chiefs again, and the final score was Monacan 53, Clover Hill 40.
Scoring: Anthony Brown 19; Jeff Conner 19; Xavier Kier 6; Will Bays 4; Bradley Riester 2; Sean Graves 2; Jordan Thomas 1.

16 MIDLOTHIAN W 80-57 Monacan JV finished the first half of their season with a solid win over Midlothian 80-57. Down by 7 at the half and 11 after the third quarter, Cosby pushed the ball up the court at every opportunity and out-hustled the Chiefs to go up by 1 with just under a minute and a half to play. Jeff Conner matched the Cosby bucket with one of his own, and Anthony Brown went 4-4 from the line (to Cosby's 1 for 2) to take the Chiefs home. Overall the Junior Chiefs were 27-38 from the free throw line (71%) compared to the Titan's 12-22 (55%), with Anthony Brown perfect with 8 of 8. An exciting and well-deserved win for the JChiefs.

15 at Midlothian W 74-59 Undefeated Season, 19-0 overall, 16-0 in the Dominion District. Coming into the last game of the season with high expectations, the Monacan Junior Chiefs capped an extraordinary undefeated season with their win over district-rival Midlothian. Midlo kept the game close and relatively low-scoring through the third quarter (Monacan led 26-20 at the half and only 40-38 after three periods), but at the start of the fourth quarter Monacan capitalized on Midlothian's inability to handle full-court pressure, forcing numerous turnovers. Monacan outscored Midlo 34-21 in the final period, with 16 of those points coming from free-throws (the Junior Chiefs went 16 for 21 from the line in the fourth quarter). An exciting season - Congratulations Chiefs!
