  4 at L.C. Bird W 55-46 The 2nd ranked Lady Chiefs Varsity basketball team started the season off with a 55-46 victory over the region's 6th ranked L.C. Bird Skyhawks last night. Nine players scored for the Chiefs led by Jordan Beadles with 14 and Abbie Gray and Emari Ready both with 9. Four players: Candice Silas, Hope Rainey, Rachel Robinson, and Toya Ricks led the team with 6 rebounds each. The Chiefs are now 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the district.

  •   6 MANCHESTER W 72-47 The Lady Chiefs increased their overall and district record to 2-0 with a 72-47 win over Manchester. Abbie Gray led the way with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Candice Silas had 13 points to go with her 3 steals, Jordan Beadles netted 11 points and Rachel Robinson ripped the nets for 10 points and added 4 steals. Toya Ricks grabbed 5 rebounds to go with her 8 points. The Chiefs will be at home Tuesday against a very tough Cosby squad.

Candice Silas and Toya Ricks both grabbed 9 boards each in the loss and Abbie Gray scored 8 for the Chiefs. The Chiefs next game will be at Huguenot to face the Falcons.

    13 at Huguenot W 64-57 The Lady Chiefs defeated the Falcons of Huguenot 64-57 in a hard fought contest to run their record to 3-1 on the season. Candice Silas and Rachel Robinson both recorded double-doubles in the victory. Silas scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Robinson netted 20 and grabbed 13 boards. Emari Ready passed for 6 assists in the victory. Monacan's next game will be at the Siegal Center against Highland Springs.

The Chiefs won the first game of the Times Dispatch Invitational Tournament at the Siegal Center against the Springers from Highland Springs 64-50. Candice Silas led the way with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Abbie Gray and Emari Ready both scored 10. Hope Rainey scored 8 points and had 6 steals as the Chiefs improved their record to 4-1.

Bird's defense stifled the Lady Chiefs in the rematch between Dominion District rivals as the Skyhawks pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Monacan 48-32. The loss drops the Chiefs to 4-2 on the season. Abbie Gray leads the scoring with 8 points followed by Rachel Robinson and Hope Rainey with 6 apiece. Candice Silas pulled down 7 boards for the Chiefs who will play Cosby in another rematch in the TDIT consolation game.

Cosby pulled away away in the third quarter to defeat the Lady Chiefs 65-48 in the 3rd/4th place game at the Siegal Center on Saturday. Candice Silas led the scoring with 14 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in the loss. Rachel Robinson and Emari Ready both scored 10 for Monacan. The Chiefs will try to get back on the winning track in the Stafford Holiday Invitational Tournament after Christmas as their record drops to 4-3.

Monacan ups it's record to 5-3 with a 56-36 victory over Gar-Field (northern Virginia) in the first round of the Stafford Holiday Invitational Tournament. Candice Silas and Rachel Robinson again recorded double-doubles in the game.Silas scored 18 points to go along with her 13 rebounds. Robinson netted 17, added 13 boards and had 4 steals. Abbie Gray and Emari Ready passed for 9 and 5 assists, respectively. The Chiefs will play host Stafford in the tournament semi-finals.

    28 Stafford W 49-38 Semifinals of the Stafford Holiday Invitational Tournament. The Lady Chiefs defeated host Stafford 49-38 to advance to the finals of their holiday tournament. Toya Ricks scored all 15 of her points in the second half to lead Monacan to victory. Emari Ready burned the nets for 10 points and passed for 4 assists. Rachel Robinson scored 9 points before heading to the bench with an injury in the second half. The Chiefs record now increases to 6-3 as they take on 7-1 Riverbend from the Northwest Region in the championship game.

    29 Riverbend W 55-39 Finals of the Stafford Holiday Invitational Tournament. The Lady Chiefs win the tournament. The Lady Chiefs win their 3rd straight game and capture the Stafford Holiday Invitational Tournament with a 55-39 victory over Riverbend. Monacan scored 14 straight points in the 3rd and 4th quarters to pull away after being tied at 31. Rachel Robinson led all scorers with 15 points. Emari Ready launched three 3's to record 11 points and Abbie Gray added 9 in the victory. Both Ready and Gray passed for 5 assists and Candice Silas led all rebounders with 9. Abbie Gray was named to the all tournament team and Rachel Robinson was name the tournament MVP. The Chiefs go to 7-3 on the season and continue district play next week against James River and Clover Hill.

Hope Rainey, Abbie Gray, and Jazmine Hatcher score 6 points each in the win and Gray and Emari Ready both pass for 6 assists. The Chiefs travel to face the one loss Clover Hill Cavaliers in a Dominion District game tomorrow night.

Toya Ricks sinks the tying bucket to send the game into overtime and finishes with 10 points and 12 rebounds.   • Outlook: The Chiefs have quickness and depth and will be strong on the boards. Robinson (11 ppg, 7 rpg), the leading returning scorer, has committed to George Mason. The speedy and shifty Ready is headed to Lees-McRae. Silas and Warren join Robinson to make up the best frontcourt in the region. Guard Abbie Gray is a tough defender and a leader.

      4 at L.C. Bird W 44-28 In their first game of the season, Monacan came out strong from the start taking the lead on a lay-up by Abby Stenger and never looking back. The Chiefs defense set the tone by allowing only 4 first quarter points and forcing 31 Skyhawk turnovers. Abby Stenger scored all 17 of her points in the first half as the Monacan offense tallied 28 first half points to the Skyhawks 12. Monacan proved to be in better shape and used their pressure defense and fast break to generate the majority of their points throughout the game. The Chiefs had a great team effort tallying 15 assists on 20 made baskets; Leslie Bacile lead the way with 6 assists along with 6 steals. Monacan got the win with a final score of 44-28. Jennifer Smith lead all scorers with 18 points while Abby Stenger finished with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
      6 MANCHESTER W 46-36 The Monacan JV Girl's basketball team notched another win by defeating Manchester 46-36. Abby Stenger lead the way with 11 points, 5 steals, and 4 assists. The Chiefs would lead by as many as 20 points in the second half, a run by Manchester cut the lead to 6, but Monacan was able to hold on for the victory. Jennifer Smith led the Monacan defense with 6 steals and also had 11 points. Leslie Bacile added 8 points and once again led the team in assists with 5. The Chiefs will be back in action at home Tuesday against Cosby.
    11 COSBY W 40-32 The Lady Chiefs added another one to the win column defeating a tough Cosby team at home. The Chiefs jumped out to a 10-2 lead only to see Cosby fight back and take the lead by one. Monacan battled back and put together a run to take a 20-15 halftime lead. The second half was a back and forth battle, but the Chiefs pulled together and made smart decisions down the stretch to capture the 40-30 win. Alex Johnson led the team with a double double, going perfect from the floor and grabbing 16 rebounds. Jennifer Smith added 10 points and 4 assists while Abby Stenger collected 3 steals in a great defensive effort. Monacan improves to 3-0 on the season and will be on the road at Huguenot on Thursday.
    13 at Huguenot W 58-41 Monacan extended their win streak to 4-0 with a victory over Huguenot. The Falcons would score first, but the Chiefs answered with a run and took a 23-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Jennifer Smith scored 13 of her 21 points in that first quarter to lead all scorers. The Lady Chiefs were able to take advantage of their fast break by beating the Falcons down the court for easy baskets. Leslie Bacile led the offensive attack by dishing out 8 assists in the win. Aysia Stockton added 14 points while Alex Johnson grabbed 11 rebounds. Monacan got a strong effort from its bench as Johnson and Stockton both got in early foul trouble. Veronica Sanchez picked up the slack for injured Abby Stenger by scoring 9 points in the contest. The Lady Chiefs will be back in action after the New Year when they travel to James River on January 2nd.

      2 at James River W 46-28 The Lady Chiefs started off 2008 right where they left off in 2007, with a 46-28 win over James River. The Chiefs struggled a bit in the first half taking only a 2-point lead into halftime. However, they used a great defensive effort and allowed only 8 points in the second half, 2 in the fourth quarter. Monacan was lead by Abby Stenger with 12 points and six rebounds, Jennifer Smith added 10 points, and Aysia Stockton grabbed 9 rebounds to go along with her 7 points.
      3 at Clover Hill W 44-33 The Monacan JV Basketball team added another one to the win column by defeating Clover Hill 44-33, bringing their overall record to 6-0. The Lady Chiefs used a strong second quarter to take a ten-point lead into half time and never looked back. Aysia Stockton and Jennifer Smith led the Chiefs with 10 points each. Stockton also added 13 rebounds, 8 coming on the offensive end. The Lady Chiefs will be back in action Friday, January 11th as they face James River at home.
    11 JAMES RIVER W 39-21 The Monacan Lady Chiefs defeated James River 39-21, for the second time this season. The Chiefs used their defense to set the tone for the game by swiping 14 steals in the effort. Abby Stenger led all scorers with 19 points in the effort. Alex Johnson controlled the boards as she tallied 11 rebounds in the contest. Bria Moore and Abby Stenger sparked the Chiefs defense with 3 steals apiece, while Jennifer Smith had 4 blocks to go along with her 8 points. The Chiefs improve to 7-0 on the season.
    14 at Cosby W 46-27 The Monacan JV Girl’s used a strong second half effort to pull away from a tough Cosby team 46-27. Leading by only 5 at halftime, the Chiefs came out and outscored Cosby 27-13 in the second half. The team's defense proved to be key in the turn-around, Abby Stenger and Jennifer Smith each had 3 steals in the game. Abby Stenger led all scorers with 22 points converting on four 3-point plays, she also added 4 blocks. The Lady Chiefs got 8 points each from Alex Johnson and Aysia Stockton to help lead Monacan in the victory. The Chiefs are now 8-0 on the season and look to keep their undefeated season alive as they travel to Midlothian tomorrow night for another tough match up.
    15 at Midlothian W 39-28 In playing their second game in two days, the Lady Chiefs showed a little sign of fatigue, but were able to pull out the 39-28 win on the road against a very strong Midlothian team. The Chiefs struggled to convert shots in the first half, but still managed to take a 6-point lead into half time. Once again, Abby Stenger led all scorers with 17 points, while Alex Johnson recorded her second double double of the season grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with her 12 points. Monacan extends their record to 9-0 on the season and will be back in action at home this Thursday as they face rival LC Bird at 5:45pm.
    17 L.C. BIRD W 36-18 The JV Girl's basketball team defeated LC Bird 36-18 for their 3rd win this week. Jennifer Smith led all scorers with 16 points, 12 coming in the first half. Aysia Stockton added 9 points and 3 assists. The Lady Chiefs got a great contribution from their bench who out hustled the visiting Skyhawks. Monacan keeps their winning season alive, as they are now 10-0 on the season. The Chiefs will be back in action next Tuesday as they travel to Manchester.
    22 at Manchester W 40-20 The Monacan Lady Chiefs improved to 11-0 on the season with a 40-20 win over the Manchester Lancers. Monacan used a strong 2nd quarter where they outscored the Lancers 14-2 to take a 24-8 lead into half time. Alex Johnson scored 12 points for the Chiefs while Abby Stenger added 10. Jennifer Smith and Aysia Stockton each added 4 assists in the contest. Monacan forced the Lancers into 36 turnovers for the game, which proved to be the difference. The Lady Chiefs are back in action Thursday night as they face Cosby for the third time this season.
    24 at Cosby W 40-39 The Lady Chiefs pulled out a tough fought game against Cosby, beating the Titans 40-39 in what came down to the last few seconds. Monacan took a one-point lead into halftime after a late turnover and a Cosby score pulled the Titans within a point. The Lady Chiefs used ten offensive rebounds in the second half to keep the game close and hang on for the one point victory. Abby Stenger had 5 offensive boards and Bria Moore added 3. Aysia Stockton led the Chiefs with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Abby Stenger added 11 points to go along with her 8 rebounds and 4 steals. The Lady Chiefs played a hard fought game and found a way to win in what proved to be their toughest game of the season so far. Bria Moore added a much needed spark off the bench scoring 5 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. The Lady Chiefs improve to 12-0 on the season and will be back at home next Tuesday when they face Huguenot.
    29 HUGUENOT W 50-37 The Lady Chiefs defeated Huguenot 50-37 to improve to 13-0 on the season. Abby Stenger led the Chiefs with 17 points and Alex Johnson with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Jennifer Smith sparked the defensive effort by swiping 5 steals in the contest to go along with her team-high 4 assists. The Chiefs got a great effort from their bench who contributed quality minutes in the contest. Bria Moore kept the offense alive pulling down 6 offensive rebounds. The Lady Chiefs will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Clover Hill at home.

      5 CLOVER HILL W 38-22 The Monacan JV Basketball team took care of Clover Hill at home with a score of 38-22. The Lady Chiefs used an outstanding defensive effort to force Clover Hill into 46 turnovers. Alex Johnson led the Chiefs with 15 points and Abby Stenger added 11 points. Monacan out shot Clover Hill 54-40 in the game and continued their undefeated season.
    14 MIDLOTHIAN L 36-24 In their last game of the season, the Lady Chiefs undefeated streak came to an end at the hands of Midlothian. The Trojans used a zone defense the entire game to slow down the fast pace Monacan offense. Monacan was down by as many as fifteen, but never gave up and cut the lead down to 8 with 3 minutes left in the game, but that was as close as they would come. Abby Stenger led the Chiefs with seven points and Jennifer Smith with six. While the Lady Chiefs finished the season with a loss, they ended up with an outstanding record of 14-1 overall, which was better than any other team in the district.
