Monacan's Indoor Track team performs well during their trip to Newport News. Both the boys and the girls teams have several top six finishes. Several runners just miss out with 7th place finishes including Hunter Cheatham in the 500m and the long jump, Krista Finnimore in the 3200m, and Ryan Beville in the 1000m. The weekend is full of personal bests that will hopefully lead to a successful season.

Monacan sent seven athletes to the Virginia Tech High School Invitational in Blacksburg, VA. During this highly competitive meet a total of nine #1 times were set for the nation with many more top five times. Monacan sent Brett Hammonds (3200) and Darious Edmonds (60HH) from the boys team and Tara Westfall (4X800), Kenzie Korman (4X800, 1600), Holly Brown (4X800, 1000), Katie Cosby (4X800, 500), and Krista Finnimore (3200) to represent the girls. These runners competed against the top runners against the country.
Boys Results: Brett Hammonds ran a Central Region qualifying time of 10:13.61 in the 3200. This puts him in the top 10 in the Central Region. Darious Edmonds placed 15th out of 48 of the best runners on the East Coast in
the 60m High Hurdles with a time of 8.75 seconds.

Senior Brett Hammonds gets out of the Ashe Center and runs his best time of the year. Winning his heat, with a time of 4:31.49, places him in the top 10 in the State in the 1600M Run. He places second out of all Central Region entries. Brett ran faster as the race progressed with 400 splits of :69, :69, :68, and :65. Congratulations to Brett in the last Indoor race for Monacan. Brett moves into the Outdoor season with top six finishes in the District 1600 and 3200 races, a top six finish in the Region 1600 race, a top ten finish in the State 1600 race, and a team MVP award on his resume.

Monacan takes an early lead in the field events, but is unable to hold on after the sprints and the running events. Crystal Hardy comes out on top in the Girl's Triple Jump with a distance of 33' 9". Crystal also finishs third in the Long Jump and second in the 55 hurdles. Adrienne Miller finishs second in both the High Jump and the Long Jump. Crystal and Adrienne also help the 4X200 finish third.
