Superman: Last Son of Earth
Description of title from DC's solicitations:
Written by Steve Gerber; art and cover by Doug Wheatley
Strange visitor from a familiar planet
In 1968, astrophysicist Jonathan Kent makes a startling discovery: within nine months, the Earth will be destroyed by a giant meteor. Making the timing of the disaster even more troubling, Jonathan's wife, Martha, has just learned that she's pregnant with a child who will be born scant days before the end of the world. Unable to convince anyone of the impending danger, all hope is lost...unless the scientist can complete a primitive rocket that will take his infant son to another world: a distant planet called Krypton.
The adventures of Superman take a series of remarkable turns in SUPERMAN: LAST SON OF EARTH, a 2-issue Prestige Elseworlds miniseries written by Steve Gerber (NEVADA, Howard the Duck, The Defenders) with art by Doug Wheatley (Aliens: Apocalypse Destroying Angels) shot from Wheatley's pencils. Sucked into a wormhole as the meteor nears Earth, Clark's rocket emerges light-years away, where it crashes on the massive, forbidding planet that orbits a red sun. When the Kryptonian Jor-El discovers the ship, he takes pity on the baby, whose frail Earth-born body is too weak to function comfortably in Krypton's high-gravity environment. He makes it his goal to help the child whom he names Kal-El thrive in a world far more stoic and forbidding than the one on which he was born.
In LAST SON OF EARTH #1, Kal-El grows to adulthood forced to wear at all times a robotic exoskeleton built by his adoptive father and devotes himself to exploring Krypton's long-neglected history. As the Kryptonian Elders argue over the emotional alien's place in their ordered society, Kal makes a series of discoveries that will forever alter the future of two worlds: first Krypton, whose past may doom its future; and Earth, a distant planet which is still very much intact.
SUPERMAN: LAST SON OF EARTH is a 2-issue, 48pp miniseries in the Prestige Format, edited by Andrew Helfer.
