| In the summer of 2002, 3 friends from Labrador City, NL decided to start a Weezer cover band. They were still without a drummer, so they asked their friend Ryan Kennedy (vocals/drums) to join. It became very apparent that a second guitarist was needed. Enter Bob Parsons (guitar/vocals). This group went by the name of =tweezer=, as a tribute to Weezer (obviously). Due to outside circumstances such as university, the 3 friends left the group, and Bob and Ryan decided that they wanted to continue playing Weezer covers together, at which point Blair Lewis (guitar/vocals) and Brucie Angst (bass/vocals) joined the fold. The line-up to what would become Rosco was now in place. Over the next few months this group played Weezer covers while beginning to write their own original material. In January 2003, =tweezer= released it’s debut album, entitled ‘Blessing Ream’, which featured 9 original songs and 4 Weezer covers. Then, the group was dealt a crushing blow. Blair Lewis and Brucie Angst moved away to Calgary and Halifax respectively, putting =tweezer= to an end. Following the end of the group, Bob Parsons and Ryan Kennedy tried to occupy themselves musically. Ryan recorded and released a solo album under the moniker Smiley Ralph, entitled ‘Solvine’. Bob kept busy by recording and producing local albums, such as ‘Solvine’ and FCKU’s ‘Our Days Are Numbered’. It was also during this time that Ryan became a full-fledged member of FCKU. It seemed as though there was no future for the former =tweezer=. But in June 2003, things began to change. Blair Lewis moved back to Labrador City. After jamming with his former comrades, the trio attempted to resurrect =tweezer=. The old chemistry was there, but something was missing. It was Bruce. In August 2003, what the trio had been wishing for came true. Brucie Angst returned to Labrador City, and agreed to rejoin the group. However, this time around something needed to be different. The group agreed that they no longer wanted to be a Weezer cover band, and that focusing on writing and improving their own material was to be priority number one. It was at this time that the group changed it’s name and also it’s musical outlook. It was at this time that Rosco was born. Mixing influences ranging from classic pop such as The Beach Boys and The Beatles with the punk, metal and indie rock that the group grew up on, Rosco are a unique mixture of jazz chords, pop hooks and quirky humor with punk energy. Keep an eye and an open ear out for Rosco. |
