LOVE ISN'T A FOUR LETTER WORD

You stare at me as if
I have somehow lost my mind
For you life has been hard
An uphill struggle, long and unkind
An unknown stranger passed through one day
Catching your mother's eye
No love between them
Give in to lust, say goodbye
Alone and rejected, ashamed and afraid
No one to blame, she took it out on you
An innocent child soon learned to hide
Anger every day, pain and tears, too
She taught you a lie
Love wasn't what she gave you
Her touch caused you pain
How can I ever break through
Brick by brick the wall is falling
You're learning to trust and believe
This love I offer is so different
It's a concept difficult to conceive
I offer you my heart, life, soul
You're unsure of what you've heard
Give me the chance to show you
Love isn't a four letter word
