THE CRAIG P. KENNY PARTY

The "gala event of the year", "a great place to network", "you have to go just for the free T-shirt", "All the professors are going", "the one and only party you should go to all year".

All those comments are thrown at entering Boyd law school students to scare them into going to a party where they know no one, have not met most of the other 1L's, stand around staring at people they do not know, and try not to look out of place.

Well the shirt is okay, the lawyers are too busy yammering at each other to pay attention to lowly 1Ls, and even if you did network, did you have a business card ready so they wouldn't forget your name the next day?? (Okay, okay Jebbie... maybe you had your business cards ready).

Anyways, these pics are from the party in early Fall 2003, way back before we knew what law school would be like and there was still signs of joy and humanity in our faces...
Remember the scene in "The Paper Chase" when the law students go to the law party?  Its a black tie affair held in Professor Kinsfield's majestic mansion with mahogany bookshelfs and the waiters were serving canapes and cocktails.

Well...this ain't the Paper Chase.

Anyways, other than having to park a few blocks away in North Town, it was pretty easy to find.

This is what a party looks like when you are stupid like me and decide to go early.

These are all the other dorks that decided to go early.

Just kidding.

The food was some catered Italian stuff that was a far cry from the food that was to come at every other law school social event ("wow, the pizza line is long today."/ "Are there any chicken wings left at this SBA thing or is it just celery sticks from here on out?")

Here's a fun game. Identify all the 1st year law students in this picture and be eligible to win 100 LexisNexis points, unless you already have a total of 100 points.

This was right in front of the tent where they were passing out free T-shirts.

Its interesting to try to ponder what's going on in these conversations.

Michelle's husband has captivated the attention of Bryson, Rob, and Brian while Michelle gives her full attention to Danielle.

Looks like Jake might be getting some typical 2L words of wisdom like: "yeah, law school sucks the second year too."

An unusually violent Brian Reeve expresses his feeling about the meal he just ate.

Looks like Rob is the only one left listening to Michelle's husband, probably because he wants to ask some follow-up questions.

At this point, you're probably saying, "geez Montgomery, you must really like these guys to have so many pictures of them?" Well, none of the rest of you guys showed up for like 2 hours!!! So I thought this was it.

Okay. This is about 2 hours later. This was the other section where all the real attorneys were.

I like how none of them really could care less that they were ignoring the bright, eager students who were hovering around trying to network.

Most of these attorneys were doing most of their networking with the beer wagon.

I wonder what event insurance would cost for a party filled with personal injury attorneys.
