| ONCE IN A BLUE MOON |
| A Blue Moon... often talked about, sung about, wished upon. I love the moon and I love the color blue. But the truth of it is, a Blue Moon is not really Blue at all. Come with me on a journey and explore the BLUE MOON. |
| A Blue Moon is the name commonly given to the second full moon in a month. Since a full moon occurs every 29 1/2 days, if there is a full moon on the first or second day of the month, there is a good chance there will be a second full or Blue Moon that month. There will not be another Blue Moon until July 2004. We will not see two Blue Moons in the same year again until 2018! In older more traditional times, a Blue Moon was referred to as the 4th full moon in a season. That is each of the four seasons of the year has 3 months, and will usually have 3 full moons. Each of these 12 moons has a name like "Harvest Moon" or" Hunters's Moon" and the like. But when a season occurrs that has 4 full moons, there is no name for this occasional moon and it was given the name "Blue Moon". Hence we have the term:"Once In A Blue Moon". |

| Moon Superstitions |

| The moon was associated in days past with the growth of Hair and Nails. From this stems the superstition that it is best to have your hair cut while the moon is Waxing So that it grows strong and healthy. The same applies to cutting nails. It is believed that it is wrong to point at the moon as it brings about hard times. Country folk still hold firm to their belief that it is best to sow seeds while the moon is on the increase. It is considerd by some unlucky for a child to be born when the moon is waning. People used to believe that is was dangerous to sleep in the moonlight, or to face the moon while sleeping, for it led to blindness or being' moonstruck', a mild form of madness. Washing your hands in the moonlight was thought to be a cure for warts. It is thought to be unlucky to see a new moon for the first time through a window. |
| Waxing Moon: The waxing or cresent moon is when the first sliver of light is seen. The waxing moon is a good time for invoking things you want, a time to start new projects. Full Moon: The full moon is when her face completely shows.The full moon is used for perfecting ideas and projects, casting spells for positive things to happen, it is the high tide of psychic energies. It is the strongest power for invocations. Blue Moon: This moon is considered stronger than a regular full moon. Waning Moon: The Waning or dark moon is when no light is seen at all. The waning moon is for causing things to decrease or banish them entirely from your life. It is also a time of high psychic energies. New Moon: The New Moon is the time to examine hidden issues, plan for new beginnings and ferret our secrets. It is also a peroid of controlled energy and growth Black Moon: Any time two moons occur during a single month, the second moon is refferred to as a Black Moon. It is considered to be stronger than the regular New Moon. |
