Joined the Department of Genetics and Cellular Biology, Universiti Malaya in 1979. Under the supervision of Dr. Koh Chong Lek, I was actively involved in Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology Research. The research projects were:

  • Nipah virus project: PCR and DNA sequencing of the Nipah virus genome

  • Human DNA typing

  • Short tandem repeat (STR) or microsatellite DNA typing

  • Spino-cerebellar ataxia (SCA1) and SCA3 (‘Machado-Joseph disease’) in Malaysia, PCR & sequencing– a genetic study.
