Phantom of the Moribund Marriage

Wicked glare devours daunted soul,
Belittling value to naught.
Crawling into snug, wretched hole,
Periled risk of respect forgot.

Romantic gaze absorbs her breath;
Quivers of euphoric delight.
Tenderness melts anguish to death,
Smoldering fires 'neath ash ignite.

Lips spew acid lyrics of hate
Blistering her fragmented core.
Silent response, deflecting bait;
Wonted terror vaults to a roar.

Mouths fuse beneath sensual kiss,
Numbed woman within awakens.
Savoring his taste is pure bliss.
Promised, sacred vow forsaken.

Muscular arms thrash stagnant air,
Lethal hands knotting dreaded fist.
Whispers of sorry lean to prayer...
Beyond tonight, let life exist.

Ardent embrace to support her,
Calm touch blots exhausted tears cried.
Romantic phrases of love stir
Sensations thought long ago died.

Malicious heart shattered all dreams
Of home blessed with love, laughter, hope.
In mental cocoon, silent screams
Chant noosed, swaying end of her rope.

Gentle essence composed dream's vision,
Yet, phantom lovers stray at dawn.
Pondering final decision,
Last breath, braided with rope, is drawn.
