Although I

Although I'm a recent convert, I LOVE Country music!!  These are lyrics I created for a country music contest in a writing forum I subscribe to.  So far, I've garnished first place with all my entries.

Two Hearts United

I am your woman for the rest of my life,
Since I said, “I do”, and became your wife.
Cherishing the promises I made that day,
Vowing my devotion never would stray.

Yes, I am your lady and you are my man,
Together we’ll journey through God’s daily plan.
Awaken each morning with a kiss and smile
As we dance through life, be it joyful or trial.

Two hearts united to live as one
A new path to travel has begun.
Solid shoulder to lean on and love to share;
If a storm blows in, we’ll turn to prayer.

A few years passed, and our miracle was here.
I cried as you cradled our strong boy, so dear.
You whispered “Thank you, beautiful mother,
My heart is yours, but has room for another.”

Our bankbook is low, but our spirits are high,
So thankful to share what money can’t buy.
A home filled with laughter, respect and love,
Three hearts and four walls blessed from above.

Two hearts united to live as one
A new path to travel has begun.
Solid shoulder to lean on and love to share;
If a storm blows in, we’ll turn to prayer.

Sunny days, rainy days sneak by too fast
Planting fond memories forever to last.
Once more your arms cradle a little boy
And tired eyes sparkle with tearful joy.

Our little one has grown to be just like dad,
Husband and father with his own tiny lad.
He'll pass on what he was taught as a child
Understanding, love, and not easily riled.

Two hearts united to live as one
A new path to travel has begun.
Solid shoulder to lean on and love to share;
If a storm blows in, we’ll turn to prayer.

Tonight draped in black, I’m holding your hand;
Hourglass of life has silenced its sand.
Beside you on satin pillow, my spirit lies--
As numb lips kiss yours our final goodbye.

Two hearts united to live as one
A new path to travel has begun.
Our son’s shoulder to lean on, his love to share;
A storm has blown in and I breathe a prayer.

Yes, a storm has blown in and I breathe a prayer.

Divorce Hors Doeuvre

Sitting at our kitchen table, staring into space,
Sipping coffee, blindly watching the sunset embrace
Another lonely ending to another lonely day,
Weaving through the tangled threads of life in disarray.

The sky mirrors the colors of my bruised heart and soul,
And the memories of us are fragments of darkest coal.
No embers left to fan and warm me through the night,
Only flaring tempers after yet another fight.

Turn the radio on and let that country music take me back
To ‘nother time and place before my world turned black…
Hol
ding hands and stealing kisses on a summer’s eve
Gazing into starry eyes I trusted and believed…
Oh, to once more be so innocent and so naïve.

Twisting 14-karat circle of love you promised me
As we joined our hearts in front of friends and family.
Didn’t take you long to tarnish dreams and band of gold,
As to the devil our hope and life together you done sold.

You said I changed. Perhaps I did, once I could see
Beyond rose-colored glasses and the fool you made of me.
My ears still burn, eyes still weep from phone call overheard.
You whispering sweet nothings, her giggling at your words.

Turn the radio on and let that country music take me back
To ‘nother time and place before my world turned black…
Holding hands and stealing kisses on a summer’s eve
Gazing into starry eyes I trusted and believed…
Oh, to once more be so innocent and so naïve.

Tomorrow morn the papers will be shuffled and served;
Your morning wake up call for divorce hors d'oeuvre.
And, after you have signed your name on the red x’d line,
This kitchen table, drenched in tears, and chairs will be mine.

You made your bed so sleep in it. Oh, ours will be mine, too;
I’ll try to find time to send you and her a penned thank you.
I may not be rich in love, only material things,
Yet, just a small down payment for your wild, lustful flings.

Turn the radio on and let that country music take me back
To ‘nother time and place before my world turned black…
Holding hands and stealing kisses on a summer’s eve
Gazing into starry eyes I trusted and believed…
Oh, to once more be so innocent and so naïve.

Yes, to once more be so innocent and so naïve.

Love Knot

Was sitting top that mean ‘ol bronc waiting on the chute;
Saw her in grandstand, thought, Oh Lordy, she was cute,
So took a chance, tipped my hat, winked at her and smiled;
Whispered to beast ‘neath me, let’s make this ride worthwhile.

My spurs dug in ‘ bout same time her smile dug into heart,
Right then and there, knew her and I would never be apart.
Hung to brute for eight seconds, would hang with her for life;
That little lady in the stands would someday be my wife.

Just a wandering rodeo cowboy not wanting any knots
In lariat of freedom, but this cowpoke was done caught,
Tangled within naive smile of blonde, blue-eyed cowgirl
Who someday soon would promise me a lifelong whirl.

She offered me a first place trophy peck upon the cheek;
I swore to heavens, wouldn’t wash that cheek for weeks.
Then asked her out for dinner, she blushed and answered ‘yes’…
Good golly, Miss Molly, was no cowgirl in that red dress.

Soon I wrapped her finger in band of 14-karat gold.
Together, this fine, young filly and me would grow old.
Through battered, bruised and broken, she stood right by my side;
And over years, win or lose, she smiled at me with pride.

Just a wandering rodeo cowboy not wanting any knots
In lariat of freedom, but this cowpoke was done caught,
Tangled within naive smile of blonde, blue-eyed cowgirl
Who someday soon would promise me a lifelong whirl.

Retired now, but I still ride wild rocking chair on porch
Strumming guitar, singing love songs to my life-long torch.
Thankful to the One above who sent lady my way,
Cause first day I saw her, knew my heart would never stray.

So, you young cowboys out there, heed this old man’s advice
Waiting for chute to open, glance at them grandstands twice.
Might be a little blonde, blue-eyed cowgirl sent just for you
To saddle heart forever with unbridled love, so true.

Just a wandering rodeo cowboy not wanting any knots
In lariat of freedom, but this cowpoke was done caught,
Tangled within naive smile of blonde, blue-eyed cowgirl
Who promised and dealt me a lifelong whirl…lifelong whirl.
