Mother » Ami's mother is a doctor who obviously makes a lot of money. She's always very busy with her work.
Father » Ami's father is a Japanese painter who loves nature. He sends her postcards and paintings on her birthdays.
Ami is an only child and is from a well-off family. She and her mother, a prominent doctor, live in a mansion (or apartment...I get confused) while her father, who divorced her mother, sends Ami some of his Japanese water colors instead of letters. Ami is gifted with a 300 IQ and is determined to be successful in school so that she can persue her dream of being a doctor like her mother. In fact, Ami's determination sometimes takes over her life and she becomes so ambitious that she will stop at almost nothing to succeed. She is the top student in her school and is quiet likely to remain there because she maintain's a rigorus study schedule. Ami will push herself to the limit and beyond. She attends cram school in addition to regular classes and even considered going to Germany to study. At the last minute, when the Scouts gave her a present consisting of a henshin pen, a communicator, and a note saying that she would always be one of them, she decided that being a Sailor Senshi and having good friends was more important than the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in Germany.
Ami is the one that everyone (well, not Rei) relies on for study help and that shows how caring she is to take time out of her "critical" study time (as if she even needs to study) to help her friends. Ami reads all the time, which probably contributes to her IQ. She reads late at night then gets up early to make sure she has time to read at school in the morning. Before Ami met Usagi, she spent much time by herself reading or studying. She was often excluded and mocked behind her back, which lead to depression. Luckily, Mrs. Mizuno was always there to bake a pan of cookies and cheer her daughter up. Anything Ami attempts, she puts her whole heart into, including cooking, friendships, studying, becoming a doctor, and...of course, being a Sailor Senshi.
Ami is quiet reserved and doesn't show her feelings very often, therefore displaying an almost cold exterior. Ami is the voice of reason in the Scout group. While studying with her friends, she is constantly pulling them away from their romantic fantasies when there's work to be done. Of course, she rarely leaves time for her own love life, but in some ways, she's so busy with school, being a Senshi, and keeping her friends out of trouble that she doesn't have a lot of spare time. Ami likes to swim, perhaps it helps her to relax after a hard day of studying and settling those lil disputes between Usagi and Rei. She also enjoys games of logic such as chess, reading, and even cooking...though Makoto has the spotlight when it comes to gourmet cooking.
Did You Know...?

* You may have noticed that Ami sports blue hair, or at least that's how it appears. Her hair is actually black, characters in anime are given bolder, unnatural hair colors so you can tell them apart more easily. Well, it goes with her outfit anyway... ^__^''

* Ami is supposed to be a 'genius' with an IQ of nearly 300. She certainly displays more mental capability than the other senshi in both mediums and is seen as a strategist during battles, her powers causing more delusion than injury. Which makes a change. Ami focuses on the academic side of life during the series and used to be mocked for her commitment to education but this faded as she became more attached to the other senshi. The DiC dub, however, never fails to come up with such razor-sharp and witty names such as 'techno-dweeb' for the enemies to call her.

* It is said that Ami's a bit of a swinger, and more laid back than the others. She enjoys chess, reading, and swimming. This might sound a little mundane but basically, her personality is far more believable than any of the others. Ami's role usually consists of doing all the tasks that require more than make-up and a magic wand to complete; which makes her pretty much unique in terms of the series. Hasn't got much of a sense of humor though - she hates practical jokes and time wasting.
