She was one of the best secretaries in the company and she knew that. But working for Mr. Logan, she had to be. It was surprising that he acknowledged her existence of being a great secretary. He did, and she was grateful, even though he had give her a load of work to do. He trusted her to actually do more than her job, so there she sat, behind her desk in the entrance of the office floor. So, whoever came in would have to pass through her first. She heard the door open but paid no heed to it. The person walked by her desk and almost made it past her. Almost. "Need help?" she asked without looking up. The figure glanced back surprised. "I need to see Mr. Logan,” "Do you have an appointment?" "I don't need an appointment," Serena looked up startled and caught her breath. There, standing in front of her was a tall dark haired man with midnight blue eyes and stunningly handsome. Darien Shields. She cleared her throat and asked, "Oh? And why is that?" even though she knew perfectly why. "Come now Serena-" "Ms. Tsukino to you," "Ms. Tsukino, tell me don't remember me," he asked in an almost jokingly manner. “Follow me,” she got up and walked around her desk and led him to Mr. Logan’s office. Darien whistled, “Nice ass!” and Serena stuck her middle finger up discretely behind her back. Darien laughed as they arrived to Mr. Logan’s office, and before he could slap her ass, she grabbed his hand. “I can sue you, and I will, lay off the crude comments or you will pay dearly,” She let go of his arm and walked back to her desk and sat down. Darien resisted the urge to run after her and kiss her right then and there. He sighed and walked into the office. “I see you are smitten with my secretary,” a deep voice commented. “What makes you think that?” Darien asked evenly. “The fact that you were late, if you have upset her then she will tell you and therefore you will be late.” Darien saw the logic there and agreed. “What trouble has she with you?” “Whistling and ‘crude’ comments,” Darien imitated Serena’s voice and Mr. Logan laughed throatily. “You two would make a good couple,” He trailed off thoughtfully and Darien made a face, him and the ice queen? Never. “Anyway, we are here for business, I have a proposition for you.” “Yes,” “Since you are looking for a job, how would you like to be the CEO of this company?” Darien stared at Mr. Logan. “What?” “You have all the right qualities and I am going to retire soon and so I need someone to take my spot. I offered Serena the job, but being the sweetheart she is, she turned it done and said she would be the secretary of the new CEO.” “Me?” “Yes, you,” “Well…uh…ok.” Darien stumbled over words. “But you do know that you aren’t allowed to have a relationship with the secretary,” Mr. Logan reminded him and Darien glared at the old man. “Why would I have a relationship with her,” Darien asked unbelievingly. “Right!” he snorted. “I don’t know Darien,” Mr. Logan raised an eyebrow, “You two are a like,” Darien shook his head vigorously and Mr. Logan laughed again. After talking a little more about business, Darien left the office. “Congrats,” Serena said without looking up and Darien looked at her. She sat down next to him. “Eating lunch.” Darien stated it as if it were the most obvious thing. “No, I mean working here, at this company.” “Oh, I got bored with my old company,” he shrugged his shoulders. “Your company was our rival.” Serena said sharply, twirling the straw. “Yeah, so?” “Look Darien, you are here for a reason, you did not just get ‘bored’ with your company!” Serena said as she faced him and narrowed her eyes. “If you do anything to this company, you will pay dearly.” “Is that a threat?” Darien asked amused. “Maybe, maybe not. Mr. Logan is like a grandfather to me. I don’t want to see him hurt.” “Awww…how sweet,” Darien said in a sickening sweet voice. “But don’t worry, I would do harm.” He smiled and added under his breath, “that much.” “So let’s talk about you.” “Let’s not.” “Come on, you’re business major, hard working secretary. But who is the real Serena?” “Some one who doesn’t wish to be bothered. And don’t call me Serena. It’s Ms. Tsukino to you. Remember?” “So you going to be a secretary all your life?” Darien asked, ignoring her glares. “No.” “What do want to be?” “Let me give you some background information Mr. Shields. You know how this company got so rich?” Serena continued with out waiting for his response. “Because we have been through a whole lot of shit. Small companies sueing us for money. And you know who was our lawyer?” “Mr. Logan?” Darien guessed and Serena shook her head. “Me.” Darien was shocked. She was their lawyer? No one told him that. Yeah, he knew about the lawsuits and all the sueing that was going on. That was partly how this company got so rich. He finally got some information. “First of all, it saves this company money, and second, it gives me practice,” Serena explained. Darien nodded absently, still in his own thoughts. Serena sighed and rolled her eyes. She got up, “No one ever listens to me these days,” she muttered. She took her cup and left the lunchroom, leaving Darien alone. ~*~*~*~ “So what’s on my agenda today Ms. Secretary?” Darien asked mocking her slightly. She glared at him before flipping through one of the many planners on her desk. “You have a meeting in 30 minutes with Mr. Logan.” Darien nodded, and then curiosity got the better of him. “How can you tell whose planner is whose?” “Well,” Serena said. “It’s quite simple. Yours is the trashed one. Mine is the busiest, Mina’s is the one that has the most meetings with males, Lita’s has pictures of food over it, Raye’s is red, and Amy’s is the neatest. Even though they have their own secretaries, I like to know what they’re doing from time to time so we can hook up.” Darien raised an eyebrow. “Who are they?” “Oh that’s right, I have to introduce you to them. They’re my friends and work here. You have some time so follow me.” Serena stood up and walked out to the elevator. Darien followed her. As they waited for the elevator, Darien asked her what her friends did. “Well, you know that we are a company that manufactures many things. Well, they come up with the ideas. They brainstorm what should be the next thing this company makes. Lita works on food and kitchen appliances; Mina brainstorms toys for children, which suits her well; Raye does magic and those card things and Amy works on ways to help disabled. They’re each the head of their departments.” The bell dinged and Serena and Darien stepped out on to the 4th floor. She slid her ID in and the door opened. “You’ll be getting your ID card soon. As soon as I feel like taking the pictures,” she flashed him a smile. “Hello Mary,” Serena addressed the secretary. “I need you to call Ms. Kino out.” The secretary nodded and pressed the buzzer. “Ms. Kino, you have guests waiting outside.” There was silence for a minute before a hurried voice replied back, “Mary, I told you not to disturb me!” Serena leaned forward and pressed the buzzer. “Lita, please tell me you’re doing legal things only that are good for the company, not you.” Lita’s voice came back on the intercom. “Serena! I’m…uh… brainstorming!” “What’s his name Leets?” “Ken.” “Well, I’ll leave you two to ‘brainstorm’. Bye.” Serena straightened out and winked at Mary who smiled. “Well make sure she doesn’t get disturbed anymore. This Ken really helps her brainstorm.” They laughed and Serena said good bye and she headed back to the elevator with Darien. “That was, um, interesting.” Serena grinned, “Welcome to Silver Moon Corps.” ~*~*~*~ Darien showed up in his office just as Mr. Logan got there. The two men shook hands with each other. “Hello Darien, hello Serena,” she smiled at him and went back to work. “Sere- Ms. Tsukino was showing me around and meeting the people,” Darien explained. They stepped into the office and closed the door. “So how’s the business?” Mr. Logan asked as they sat down. “It’s doing well, today is only my first day,” Darien reminded him. “Are you on first name basis with Ms. Tsukino?” Darien grinned and shook his head. “She doesn’t let me.” They shared a laugh. “That’s my Serena.” < OUTSIDE THE OFFICE > “Hey Serena!” A cheery voice greeted the secretary and she looked up. “Hey Mina!” Serena hugged a lady with long blonde hair and a red bow in it. Her eyes slightly bluer than Serena’s. “So how’s it going with…” Mina nodded her head in the direction of Darien’s office. Serena smiled. “With Mr. Shields?” “You guys aren’t with first names yet?” “He is. Anyway, he’s in there having a meeting with Mr. Logan. I showed him around and took him to meet Lita.” “How’d it go?” Mina asked curiously, knowing a funny story was on its way. “She was…um, occupied at the moment.” Mina grinned as she realized what Serena meant. Serena relayed quickly what happened as just as she finished, Darien’s office door opened and Mr. Logan stepped out. “Thanks for coming.” They shook hands and Mr. Logan said goodbye to Serena and left. Darien noticed Serena standing there with a blonde who looked somewhat like her. “Mr. Shields, this is Mina, head of the Toys center.” They shook hands and Mina winked. “Serena, you didn’t tell me how cute he was!” Darien laughed, obvious to her flirting. “Mina, I think you need to get your eyes checked.” Serena snapped as she grabbed her coat. “Mr. Shields, you have a meeting at 7pm where you will be introduced to the company. I’ll be back then, and as a stupid tradition, I have to have dinner with you after.” Serena sighed and muttered under her breath, “even if it kills me.” Darien grinned, “I’ll be looking forward to it.” Mina sighed dramatically and Serena shot her a murderous glare. She turned to Darien, “Where a tie and a tux, you want to impress. In a month, we’ll be having a company party.” And with that final note, Serena left with Darien and Mina staring after her. “She likes you,” Mina decided and Darien looked at her amazed. “Where did you get that from?!? She hates me!” “No… she likes you, she just has a different way of showing it. Give her time to open up. But be careful Mr. Shields, we’ve all heard of your reputation, Serena is like our best friend, she’s a delicate flower. You hurt her, you answer to us and it won’t be pretty. Lita and Raye have strong punches.” Mina grinned at him after she finished her speech and left also. Darien shook his head before heading back into his office, he grabbed his jacket and left also, anticipating when he would take Serena out to lunch. She was an interesting lady. |
