She was trying to figure out how she had gotten herself into this mess. ~FLASHBACK~ She was on her way to USA. Why? She had a special case to solve requested by her father, Ken, and she had to go to the US to visit the Lieutenant and get info on the case. Her mom, Irene, died when she was only 4. Serena had vague memories of Irene. Now there was a housekeeper Jenna taking care of the family. Serena loved Jenna with all her heart but deep down she missed her mom. Serena also missed her boyfriend of 3 years Seiya Kou. He was tall with brown hair and had amazing green eyes. He was really sweet and liked to sing. She on the other hand, had long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She was also extremely sweet and specialized in mysteries. Both were 24 and Serena had matured greatly. Serena's thoughts drifted towards a certain ebony haired man with midnight blue eyes and was exceedingly handsome. He had a lot of super models all over him. Snap out of it Serena, you broke up 4 years ago for the good of you both. Serena chided herself. Serena had been lucky and dated him in her collage years. Everyone thought they were a perfect couple and they might get married sometime. She hoped… "miss…miss…MISS" an attendant yelled at her. Serena had forgotten she was on plane and stopped in the middle of the isle. "sorry" she got out of the way and went back to her seat and anticipated until the food came. Serena waited until the plane stopped then got her baggage from overhead and walked out of the plane. She spotted a sigh that said her name and walked of to the woman. "Serena Temple?" Serena nodded. "Mina Ainko" They shook hands. "pleasure to meet you, now please follow me" she followed Mina to the limo. Serena gasped when she saw how long the limo was. She didn’t really expect a limo…especially one this long. Dad, you still have to get the best for daddy's girl huh? Serena thought while grinning slightly. "A dime for your thoughts" Mina interrupted. Serena was beginning to like this girl. She laughed a little. "uh Mina, I believe that would be 'a penny for your thoughts'" Mina blushed. "uh yea, hehe. We are here" Mina got out and opened the door for Serena. "thanks" she said as she got out. Mina gave a small smile and told Serena to go into the building and tell the receptionist Ami, who she was and why she was there. Serena nodded and went in. When she got there she went up to the counter. "Ami?" she asked the blue-haired lady behind the counter. Ami nodded. "I'm Serena Temple and Mr. Shields has contacted me" Ami nodded again before saying, "yes he told me about that, please hold on while I tell him you have arrived." Serena waited until Ami was done talking with Mr. Shields. "he will be with you shortly" Serena gave a nod and started waiting. "so, uh, Ami, have you been working for Mr. Shields a long time?" Ami glanced up at her and shook her head. "2 years" "so uh, is it nice working for Mr. Shields?" Ami smiled. "he's a very nice man if that’s what you're asking" Serena blushed. "I guess I'm kinda nervous. See, I haven' t met him before but my father set up an appointment. I have to talk to Mr. Shields about my up coming case. And I'm getting a new partner." Serena sighed at the thought of a new partner. "do you know who he is?" Amy got a mysterious look in her eyes. "no--" "SERENA" a loud voice boomed. Serena looked up. "Mr. Shields " "please, just Ted is fine" Serena smiled slightly at this. "ok…Ted" "There! That wasn't hard was it?" Ted asked with a teasing look in his eyes. Serena laughed. She saw now that Ted was a very easy man to talk with. He had brown hair with streaks of gray. His face was wrinkled from aging a little, but at one glance you could tell his was pleasant and agreeable. Ted was about 45 years old, but he still had a teasing look in his eyes and could be considered handsome. In fact he kinda looked like an older version of her blue-eyed man that always came into her thoughts. No…that's not possible. Serena told herself. She followed Mr. Shields through the corridor. Different last names. They entered a small office. "before I explain to you the case, I would like you to meet your partner" Serena nodded in confirmation that she knew she was getting a partner. He continued, "your partner will be my son" Ahah! So he does have children! Serena thought triumphantly. "Ami, please tell my son to come in" A minute later the door opened and in came his son. Serena gave a big gasp of surprise. "DARIEN LONGS!" that's the last thing she remembered before fainting. (AN: should I stop here. She groaned and opened her eyes. There was a blurry sight of 2 men leaning over her and what looked like to her, angels. "Are you angels" she asked the men groggily. They laughed. After a minute her eyesight grew better. "Mr. Shields?" Serena cried out faintly. "I'm here" one of the men said. She tried to get up but the man pushed her back down. "Stay" "I'm alright" the blonde tried to convince them she was all right. Her vision finally cleared and was back to normal. She shook her head then looked around. Her eyes landed on the tall figure now standing by the door. It was him. Darien. She tried to erase all her memories of him and almost succeeded but then he comes right back. Barging into her life. She had a question on her mind though, and no doubt Darien probably explained the reason why he fainted. "I don't get it?" Her brow wrinkled in confusion. "Don't get what?" Mr. Shields asked. "How you are his father. When I was uh…. Um…. Going…out" She swallowed, it was still hard for her to say it years later. "With him, he never introduced us and he told me he had no father" Ted smiled a little, "That was before he found me" Serena gave a nod of understanding. "Now! Back to business. Darien…son, do come in, you're blocking the doorway" Darien walked in from his position. He caught Serena staring at him but she quickly turned away. Why does it have to be this way? Darien asked himself as he sighed. "Now, I'm not going to ask how you know each other or what is going on but I do ask that you settle your differences because your identities are newly engaged couples which mean you sleep in the same room-" he stopped and stared at Serena before continuing. "And it would be uncustomary, and people would think it weird, to ask for a second bed" he glared at Darien knowing what his son would be thinking. Serena and Darien both groaned out loud. Everyone thought she had a major temper but once Serena got to know Raye she was really quite nice. "would a cupcake cheer you up" Serena's other best friend, Lita asked. Lita was taller that Raye and had auburn hair that was always pulled back into a high ponytail. She had green eyes and her specialty was cooking. Boys were scared of her cauz she had a tendency to beat them up when she was mad. But Serena had managed to befriend her and she was grateful for that. "YES!" Lita set a cupcake down in front of Serena. "so do you know what your case is about?" Serena shook her head. "imh gwahnth tuh fundh outh tohmowrarw" Serena tried to speak while having a cupcake in her mouth. "what was that? I didn't catch it?" Raye cupped her ear and Serena through the pillow at her and finished swallowing. "I'm going to find out tomorrow." Lita and Raye nodded their heads. "by the way I leave in… 1 HOUR?!?!" Serena rushed to her closet and started pulling things out. "I don't have enough time to get ready" She looked to her friends, "help me" Finally, 45 min later she was ready. "thanks for packing for me. Mina should be here in 15 minutes. Do ya wanna meet her?" The girls agreed and they waited. Mina eventually came with Darien in the limo. Both got out and walked to greet Serena and her friends. "Darien, these are my best friends, Lita and Raye. Lita, Raye this is Darien my partner. You remember each other." Serena smiled a tight lip smile as she introduced them. Then she and Mina went to go put her bags in the trunk while Lita and Raye took Darien aside. "Darien if she gets hurt we are blaming you. Take care of her" Raye told him fiercely. "she is our best friend, and if she comes back with one bruise, your going down baby" Lita balled her fist up and stuck them in front of Darien's face menacingly. "LITA!" Serena yelled. "leave him alone. I'm going to be fine" Lita backed down but not with out giving Darien a dirty look. They hugged Serena hard and told her to come back in one piece safely. She promised she would and she would try to keep in touch. "Miss. Serena! Come on, we got a plane to catch!" ~END OF FLASHBACK~ So here she was, sitting next to Darien Longs, or should she now say Darien Shields. On her way to Russia. Darien was going to explain the whole story once they got to their hotel. AT THE HOTEL: "well, this is a nice room" Serena said looking around. "But they got no couch" She smiled sympathetically to Darien. "I guess you will be sleeping on the floor then" she said. "hey wait! That's not fair! Why do you get to sleep on the bed?" "I need my beauty sleep" Serena stretched out on the bed. "its comfy" "uh uh" Darien shook his head. "if the maids find me on the floor and you on the bed they are going to think its weird." She stopped at the flowerpot and took out an ear piece, and she stopped at the TV and took out a mini camera lens. Just then the maid came in asking for dirty sheets or towels. Serena disappeared into the bathroom and brought out a dirty towel. She handed it to the maid. When the maid left, Serena told Darien to continue. "what about the hidden devices?" he asked. Darien said glaring at Serena, "now as I was saying, we are going to stay in their castle until we solve the mystery. The mystery is to look for the Silver Imperial Crystal. It was stolen 3 days ago at 3:00am. Any questions?" "What is the Silver Imperial Crystal and what does it do?" "The Crystal is a heirloom and it is the energy source of a secret machine." "What is the secret machine?" Serena asked curiously. "You think I know?" Serena rolled her eyes at him and sighed. "Fine, what’s our next step? You said you needed to talk to someone." Darien got up and headed for the bathroom. "That is correct. We are going to talk to the Grand Duke of Russia so look extravagant. It would be nice if he favored you" Darien said glancing at her. "So you want me to look like a slut!" Serena asked incredulously. "Not exactly, just look nice and fancy, but not cheap. Do you have something to wear or do we need to go shopping today?" Darien asked her calmly. "Shopping? I can go with shopping" Serena had a mischievous look in her eyes, but Darien didn’t see it. The next hour was filled with them running in and out of stores and Darien gaining more and more shopping bags. Since everything was so cheap but well made and beautiful, Serena decided to go on a shopping spree. Especially one where she didn’t have to pay! She was wearing a baby blue silk spaghetti strap shirt that was a little higher then her belly button. She had small shorts on that had small slits on the sides and showed her tan legs. She gave a huff and went back into the stall to change. 3 minutes later she came out caring the baby blue PJ and some other accessories and went to the cash register to pay. ~THE CAR RIDE~ "Come on Serena" Darien sighed as he drove to the hotel. It was hopeless, she was going to be mad at him the whole time. Was this how couples fight? They arrived at the hotel 10 minutes later. Serena went to take a shower and came out in the baby blue PJ set she bought at the store. Her hair was in 2 low pigtails. It was his turn to take a shower so he went in the bathroom. 5 minutes later he appeared with wet hair, checkered boxers only and a towel around his shoulders. They looked at each other for a minute. "Ooh! You are gonna get it!" She grabbed a pillow from the bed and through it at him. And so began the famous pillow war. They lay spread out on the king-sized bed, gasping slightly. Darien and Serena gave a big sigh. The pillow fight took a lot out of them but it was fun! Serena tilted her head sideways to look at him. "well, that was kinda fun" Darien looked down on her. Her hair was coming out of the two pigtails, the shorts were wrinkled little and her shirt barely covered her breasts. He thought she looked downright sexy. "yea" he agreed. God, she had changed so much. All the other girls he went out with after they broke up were fake. But Serena wasn’t, she was special. She was real. Ever since Serena was 16 and he was 17. They managed to get into the same collage until he broke up with her with 2 years of collage left. She nodded reluctantly and went under the covers. He joined her but they stayed on separate sides. Through out the night Serena couldn’t sleep. So that’s why she was so cozy in the end and somehow it felt right. Serena gently scolded herself for thinking that. Darien stirred and pulled the covers over him. He looked so cute that Serena could resist brushing his bang away. Darien woke up and found Serena looking down on him very cutely and had brushed his bang away for him. He smiled at her and she smiled back. "Ready to get up?" she asked him. He nodded and they got up. Darien took a shower first while Serena prepared the stuff needed. She quickly got dressed for breakfast and when Darien came out they went down to eat. When they cam back up Serena took a shower and got dressed in the elegant gown she brought the night before. Darien felt his breath go away when Serena steeped out of the bathroom. She was wearing a slinky blue dress that was sleeveless and was glittery. Hr hair was pulled back into an elegant bun and she had pearls dangling down. Her lips wearing pale red and glossy. She put blue eyes shadow on but making it look pleasant, but not over done at the same time. Just right. On her feet wear matching blue high heels that had straps. Over all, she looked astonishing. Serena gave Darien the once-over. He was wearing a black tuxedo and excellent smelling cologne and had slicked his dark hair back. He looked ravishing! She gave a small smile as he offered his hand to her. "Ready to go?" She nodded, and they walked out the door. Darien handed the valet the keys and walked around the to the other side to help Serena out like a proper husband should do. When she stepped out, she looked around. There was a big fountain in the middle with a dolphin spitting water out in the middle. The fountain was surround with a border of lovely flowers and there was a path separating the flowers and the grass. Serena linked hands with Darien and he escorted her up to the manor. He rang the doorbell and Serena fidgeted as they head the loud noise echoing through the halls. A butler appeared a moment later. "Yes?" "We have an appointment with the Grand Duke and tell him Cabaka and Keeska are here." Darien said importantly, the butler nodded and disappeared. "What are our names?" Serena wanted to know. "Cabaka, which is me, and Keeska, which is you." "But what do they mean?" "Cabaka means dog and Keeska means cat. It’s our code name." Serena nodded in understandably. The Grand Duke appeared at the door and Serena gasped in surprise. He wasn’t at all what she expected. He was tall and well built like Darien. His bright blue eyes went well with his blond hair. In truth, he was actually quite young. "Drastvuti," <hello> "Drastvuti, how are you?" "Good, and you Grand Duke?" "Andrew please, I’m fine. And who is this lovely lady?" Serena blushed as he lifted her hand and kissed it. "My wife, Keeska," The Grand Duke laughed. "Nice catch! It certainly matches!" he said to Darien who grinned in return. "Thanks, I know," "What is your real name though? What they call you in the States." Serena glanced at Darien for confirmation. "Serenity." "Lovely, and you cabaka?" The men burst out laughing once more while Serena stared at them in confusion. "Darien," suddenly a huge gust of wind blew past and Serena shivered. "Oh dear! I’m sorry! I forgot to invite you in! I was so caught up in Serenity!" He winked and Serena and motioned them inside. They followed him down a big extravagant hall and into a big room. A long maple table was set in the center and pictures were up on the crimson colored wall. Butlers pulled out a chair for each of them as they sat down. "Spaseeba," <thank you> Darien said and the butler nodded. Serena tried to repeat the same. The Duke and Darien laughed her attempt and she grew red. Glaring at Darien, she placed the napkin on her lap. "So what brings you here?" The Duke asked them as the butlers brought food. "The Silver Imperial Crystal." "Ah, yes," the Duke leaned back in his chair. "What would you like to know about it?" "Everything." "Ok," Andrew nodded. "I can tell you everything I know, I suppose that’s why you came in the first place," he said with a twinkle in his eye. "But first, let’s eat and discuss over dinner," he leaned back forward and helped himself to some of the dishes and Serena and Darien did the same. "The Imperial Crystal is good and bad in a way. If evil gets their hands on it, then the Earth will be doomed, all they have to do is put it in a special machine and it will do something to destroy the Earth. I’m not sure." The Duke of Russia paused and took several bites. "If the hands of good happens to get it, then Earth will prosper. A prophecy once foretold, that during the process of reclaiming the Crystal, one person will die, two will fall in love, and three will prosper eternally." Serena and Darien chewed slowly, enchanted by the prophecy. Then the Duke asked if they knew the legend behind the Crystal. Serena shook her head and eagerly waited for the story, she liked the Duke because he was outgoing and friendly, and didn’t have whores all over the place like she expected. "The legend begins a long time ago when there were Lunarians, people who live on the Moon. They had one queen, Neo Queen Selene (AN: I know it’s Serenity but that’s Serena’s name!), and she was the fairest queen, beautiful, kind, generous. One day, the Moon came under attack by the Negaverse, and unable to save her people and her planet, she cast what was left off what was left of her powers and captured it into the Silver Imperial Crystal. Then she threw it down onto Earth where her friend, Queen Gala, the Queen of the Earth, protected it. The Crystal doesn’t have that much power, but I has enough to do unimaginable things if it gets into the wrong hands, like it has been done so far. But you still have a chance," Serena and Darien saw some hope in retrieving the Crystal after hearing the sad tale. "You have 14 days before the Crystal can be fully activated and cause damage. I wish you luck." The Duke got up and started to leave. "You’re leaving?" Serena cried out in surprise. He turned to here and nodded. "I have done what I can, the fate is in your hands, you will sleep here tonight," he snapped his fingers and two butlers appeared.
