The character Nicole Anderson is my own creation.*** Life in Tokyo for an Orphan As I gazed at the night sky, I began to wonder the recent changes in my life. Family… the word never existed for me from the day I was born. I don’t blame them …my mother… my father… who were they? Why was I dropped at the orphanage? I asked myself several questions like these way to many times in my life. My life… basically lonely… but I’m thankful for it…if I didn’t have it, I never would have the chance to start enjoy it… Tokyo, Japan - 1978 The young blond woman, no more than the age of 19, walked the final steps, which lead towards the entrance of Everwood Orphanage. In her arms, tightly wrapped in blankets, was a tiny yet beautiful child no more than a couple of months old. When a cold winter breeze blew by the woman, she pulled the little miracle closer to her body, as a source of heat, which she hoped would be helpful. The woman carrying the child was freezing herself, but it was nonchalantly taken noticed… as long as the child survived, she would be satisfied. Finally she reached the wooden doors of the orphanage. Taking one last look at the child … her child … she quickly placed the bundle down on the ragged welcome carpet. Slowly her icy blue fingers reached up to ring the doorbell. The young woman’s heart cried out with great anguish at the mere thought of leaving her child …but what other choice did she have?...none… The word repeated inside her head as her emotional barriers began slowly to weaken. Before she could help herself, the woman of 19 years’ gaze fell downwards near her feet. The tiny child looked up at the woman with innocent summer blue-sky eyes. The woman’s eyes began to fill up with tears. “I’m so sorry…” the woman began softly as she locked gazes with her child… “I…I… can’t… promise you the life you rightly deserve. Please…please… forgive me when you’re older… Maybe… maybe… some other family will adopt you…I…I’m so sorry…I love you…Please forgive me.” As the woman said those words, she went down on her knees and lightly kissed the child’s forehead. Getting up quickly, she rang the doorbell several times. Before someone discovered her appearance, she rushed down the steps of the orphanage and into the cold night without turning around and seeing her child’s eyes as they began to fill up with tears... just like her mother’s blue eyes. Unnoticed by the woman, a young girl about four years old, silently saw the event occur from inside the orphanage. Slowly she got up from her place at the window and began racing towards the door. Cautiously she opened the door. The low temperature outside made the girl shiver. Slowly and gently as a four year old could, she picked up the tiny child and took her inside the orphanage. The character Nicole Anderson is my own creation.*** Life in Tokyo for an Orphan - Chapter 2 Tokyo, Japan - 1982 (Four Years Later) “Rena?! Where are you? Rena?!” yelled a frustrated 8 year old as she searched the hallways of the orphanage. “Try and find me Nicky” came back the cheerful reply. “Come on Rena! You have to get ready for church! Please behave and come out already. The head mistress doesn’t like it when we’re late.” pleaded Nicole Anderson or Nicky for short. Nicole with green eyes and brown hair took care of Serena since the first day she arrived at the orphanage during that cold evening. Nicole entered the room, which she shared with her “sister” Rena or Serena to be exact. She was greeted by smiling four - year blonde girl on her bed, clean and ready to go. “It took you ..umm…1.4…9…3…umm…lots minutes to find me!” came the fake angered statement by the four year old whose hands were on her hips, and trying to suppress laughter at the look of surprise on her sister’s face. Nicole to say the least was surprised to see her sister, who preferred to get in trouble with the head mistress than going to go to church, actually ready and CLEAN. The words clean, soap, showers, baths and such things never did exist in Serena’s vocabulary. Nicole slowly began advancing towards Serena. Serena, who couldn’t restrain the laughter any longer, began laughing. “Oh, you think that’s funny, huh?” asked Nicole to the four-year-old. “Yup.” was all the reply she received. Before Serena could react, Nicole tackled her on the bed and began tickling the living daylights out of her. Both of the girls were two busying laughing and having fun, they didn’t notice the head mistress at the door. Finally, Nicole became aware of the unwanted guest at the door. “What are you two doing?!” asked an enraged head mistress. “Sorry mistress.” apologized Nicole. “Yes, sorry mistress.” Serena apologized also like her older sister. “I’ll let you off the hook for today. Don’t do it again. Understand?” “Yes mistress.” Both girls replied. “Be downstairs in 5 minutes.” The head mistress instructed as she left the room. “Nicky?” “Yeah Rena?” “How much longer do we have to stay here?” inquired Serena. “…umm... Until we get adopted or until we become old enough to move out of here.” Answered Nicole. “Why do you ask?” “No reason. I can’t wait to get out of here, that’s all.” Replied Serena. “Same here. Come on. Let’s go downstairs before the head mistress yells. Her breath smelled like garlic today.” With that said, the two orphan went downstairs. Tokyo, Japan - 2002 “Rena! Get up! You’re going to be late for work!” shouted Nicole from the kitchen making breakfast. At the age of 28, Nicole Anderson a talented artist and writer, still has to be her younger sister’s alarm clock, basically due to the fact Serena’s first alarm clock (and several others) were tossed out the window. Receiving no response from her sister, Nicole placed down the wooden spoon in her hand and walked towards her sister’s bedroom. Knocking softly on the door, she peeked inside to find her Rena fast a sleep. As she walked closer towards the bed, memories of waking Rena in their childhood at the orphanage came floating back. ‘Poor Rena. She did come home pretty late from her shift at the hospital last night...’ thought Nicole, as she fondly gazed down at her younger sister. ‘but the day must go on…’ sighed Nicole. “Rena, wake up. You’re going to be late.” Spoke Nicole as she began to shake her sister. “5 more minutes Nicky.” Answered the sleeping beauty. “Come on Rena. You don’t want to keep your patients waiting because you slept in.” said Nicole as she tried to wake the blonde once more. Receiving light snoring noises as a response, Nicole decided to do something extreme to get her attention. “RRREEENNNAAA!” shouted Nicole at the top of her lungs. Serena startled by the noise, jumped out of bed and ran into the washroom. Nicole just smiled to herself on a job well done, as she made her way back into the kitchen. - To be continued… Author’s Notes: Thanks for reading chapter two. I’m really sorry, the story has too many “flashbacks”. BUT I’m done with that part for now. Darien (I don’t own him) will be added to the story next chapter, as well as some of the other characters from Sailormoon (who also don‘t belong to me). Well…until I get the next chapter up…bye! |
