A young woman in her mid 20's strode confidently into her boss's office (Agent Art...or Artemis as he was commonly known as), making sure to shut the door behind her. Her blonde, almost silver-ish tresses were pulled into a neat, tight bun. Large sky blue orbs took in her surroundings with mild interest...her eyes transfixed only on the elder man perched on his desk, smoking a huge cigar, his ankles crossed. He looked her up and down with a grimace. If she kept dressing up like this, she could've passed off as his WIFE, which he thought with a sweatdrop, if he HAD one. At 36, he sported long white hair...but it wasn't from age. He was oddly born with that hair color. But it made him very, VERY handsome and helped to contrast his with his icy blue eyes. There were wrinkles on the sides of his eyes, mostly from years of laughter and mirth. He wore a casual white shirt that flaunted a bright, red tie and black, wrinkled pants.

Serena, however, was stubborn and un-bending as a person could get. Perhaps even more so. She wore a long sleeved white shirt, which was rolled up all the way towards her elbows. A navy blue tie was swung carelessly on her right shoulder which hung loosely around her neck. Her hands were stuffed in her navy blue pockets which was ironed so disgustingly planate that it was virtually wrinkle-free! Sitting herself down on his black, plush seat without an invite, she propped black worn down shoes from years of use onto piles of important papers as a smirk played across her lips.

He arched a brow at her impudence, and if it were to be anyone else, he would've taken his gun out and shot that person for even THINKING about sitting in his chair. But she wasn't just anyone. She was the top of her class and the best agent in America. She had been the superior commander for the Navy Seal and went through it with ease...treating it like child's play. She had spent her 5 years in the Navy Seal in complete bliss, and recalled it as a great way to keep in shape.

"Please...DO make yourself comfortable." he said with sarcasm dripping on his every word as he went to his file cabinet and pulled out a manila folder.

She shrugged and smirked. "No prob. Already taken care of. So what's this new mission you were blabbing about?" she asked whilst crumpling a sheet of paper and throwing it into a wastebasket. She grinned. "Perfect."

Rolling his eyes, he snorted and shook his head. Handing her the folder, he sat back down on his desk and bathed in the silence...which he knew wouldn't last long after she read what her mission would be.

She pursed her lips as she thumbed through the papers with little interest. Artemis awkwardly loosened his tie...preparing for her hot temper...which she was DEFINITELY known for. Sure enough, her eyes widened as she swung her feet off of the desk and sat up straight. Her jaw was clenching and unclenching, her breathing becoming uneven. "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS AGENCY TRYING TO PULL??? YOU ALL WANT ME TO MASQUERADE AS A....." she took a deep breath and finally noticed that everyone was looking through the window forgetting that there were other people around who were trying to listen to what was going on inside the room. But as they saw her glare daggers at them, they immediately rushed back to work. She stood up, and putting her hands on the desk she leaned towards her boss until their noses practically touched. "You want me to masquerade as a NANNY??" she asked in a harsh whisper. But the venom in her tone was noticeably still there, unfortunately, for Artemis' part anyway.

Clearing his throat he took the manila folder from her iron like grasp and sighed. "Look Serena...this is one of our TOP cases. Multi-billionaire Raye Hino seems to have a mad-bomber after her. Of course, we have not alerted her of this. Nor do we intend to having her KNOW anything about this." he added with an arched brow, trying to get his point across. "We were able to find out that this bomber is no other than Robert Stanfield...otherwise known as Rubeus. He was a competitor of Raye in the stock market world and when she hit the gold mine, he went into a frenzy furry and devoted the rest of his life into plotting a way to kill her. I already sent two of our best agents on this case...and well...both of them were discovered dead. They were disguised as Raye's bodyguards but when they were found, they had an upside down black moon on their foreheads. It seems as if Rubeus has a lil hobby of tattooing black crescents on his victims foreheads right after he kills them. Anyway...this is where you come in. Raye has a 14 year old daughter, Hotaru Tomoe, who she is overly protective of. She had just recently gone through a divorce with the world wide famous Dr. Tomoe and is now dating a Jadeite Wilkerson, the owner of nine state banks. We have made arrangements so that she would need to hire a Nanny to watch over her daughter." he stopped as he leaned in, a glint of amusement gleaming in his eyes as he smirked. "To make a long story short, we are not ASKING you...but TELLING you...that you are to go in there, hunt Rubeus, KILL him, and meanwhile protect Raye and her daughter. You leave tomorrow at 5:00 sharp to California."

She sat back down and laid her head in her hands. "Look...Artemis. I'm an undercover agent. I will NOT under any circumstances BABYSIT a snobby rich girl and her elitist daughter. Nor am I leaving for California tomorrow...have another agent do this...but NOT me. I am a professional and..."

"And you need to learn to bite your tongue for you talk too much for your own good. You WILL do this case and you WILL get on an airplane to California tomorrow. Or you can kiss your job goodbye." Opening the door, he gestured for her to get out...in other words...the conversation was finished. She growled as she threw his paper weight to the wall and walking out the door, she stopped long enough to give him a menacing glare. She walked towards her own office shaking her head and muttering obscenities about men and who needed them?

Sighing, Artemis walked towards his desk and sat down on his chair. He clasped his hands together deep in thought, plans going through his head at a 100 mph. Finally, pressing a number on his phone, a woman's voice could be heard. "Yes Sir? How can I help you?"

He smirked. "Denise...call Lunaria for me and have her fax me any of her top agents."

"Yes Sir." was her abrupt reply.

Leaning back on his chair, he propped his feet onto his desk. It was about high time Serena met her match. Knowing Luna...he knew that she would of course pick a male, and that male would be no other than Darien Shields. Serena and Darien together would cause a volcano...dangerous but yet hot. Serena had saved his life many times...and it was up to him to return the favor. "Serena...trust me on this. You'll thank me on the latter." he said aloud as he rubbed his temples. But his thoughts were interrupted as Luna herself walked into his office. He cocked a brow, sitting ram-rod straight in his seat at the beauty standing in front of him. "Well..well..well. Artemis. It's been a while." she purred, tucking wavy tendrils behind her right ear. He smirked. "Yes...but not long enough." At this she giggled, which sounded like a soft meow of a cat...a beautiful cat..he thought. "So..what do you have in that conniving head of yours?" she asked...cocking a brow. She grinned. "Leave it you to ruin the moment." he muttered. She shrugged.

"Well..." he began. "...we're going to play matchmakers.." A mischievous grin found its way to his lips. Luna sat on his desk, her almond shaped orbs eyeing him intently.

"I'm listening....."

!* The Next Day *!

Serena stepped out of the cab, paid him, then walked up towards the huge stone steps. There were two statues of crows perched on both sides of the long steps, each one menacingly scary in their own way...but yet bringing comfort upon it's viewers. The landscape incorporated a mixture of Japanese, American, and French culture. Fairly wild and woody in places, what actually caught her eyes was a salt-water pond, which was displayed in the center of the huge estate. With a pattern of tides, the water in the pond rises and falls throughout the day. As a result, the landscape of it changes. In the center of the pond, two fiery birds with their beaks opened wide spurting what seemed to be red, orange, and yellow flows of fire...but only appeared that way because of the lighting. Red and white roses circled around the magnificent fountain, planted in a wavy pattern to give off the illusion of flowing roses. Willow, Oak, Maple, and even chrysanthemums(which was pretty weird since it only grew in Japan...but she obviously had enough money to import a dozen or so to America) were located on the estate, and Serena could only imagine how the BACK of Ms. Hino's property looked like. The mansion itself was wondrous as balconies and large windows flaunted across it's magnificent walls. Climbing roses and vines gave it an almost exotic look, but yet fashionable.

Picking up her forgotten suitcases by her feet, she walked up the stairs cautiously...making sure no one unwanted was lurking in the shadows. In one of her suitcases, she had packed her needed necessities and in the other were her guns, badge, bomb detectors that she had designed herself, cameras, poisonous darts....just about everything she could conjure up at a last moment's notice. Looking at the mansion, and then to her casual blue jeans and pink shirt, she blushed. She had never really thought of her clothing, nor did she care about it...but being surrounded by this baronial place...it made her seem like a cheap rag.

Knocking on the double white doors, she noticed with an amused smile that the doorknobs were pure gold. Shaking her head, she knocked again and smoothed down her shirt and patted her hair. The door opened slowly, and she stood rigidly straight...expecting to see a beautiful, black-haired woman that she had seen in the files. Who answered the door was a beauty alright and certainly had black hair. But woman...well..that was an understatement. For a man stood before her, a cocky smiled tugging his lips as he raked his hand through his hair. "Well...seems like punctuality isn't one of your strong points since you're5 minutes late."

She could only gape at his audacity and immediately her dumbstruck features turned into a vicious scowl. "And it seems like courtesy and civility isn't one of your strong points, either." It was his turn to gape...for no woman had ever back talked him. They usually took one look at him, and was already all over him in an instant. But this little perfervid nymph was cringing away from him...as if one touch from him would condemn her forever in Hell. Cocking an eyebrow, he watched her as she pushed her way inside and threw him her two...HEAVY..suitcases. He wasn't going to hate staying here after all, why not with this little devil child to keep him company. He refused to think that she was quite a BEAUTIFUL devil child...not to mention one that sported long, curvy legs...and a curvaceous curved body and.... He groaned as he shook his head. What was Luna and Artemis up to THIS time?

"Ah! You've arrived." said a stunning, raven-haired goddess as she gracefully climbed down the stairs, her head held high and her violet eyes sparkling with mischief...and...amusement? Serena smiled, and extended her hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Hino. I am looking forward to becoming the nanny of your wonderful child." She grimaced, which unbeknownst to her, was caught by Raye. She swung her head back and laughed with mirth. Her violet eyes seemed to hold such fire in them..and if Serena didn't know better...she could've sworn that she saw purple highlights in her hair. "No need for such formalities and punctiliousness. I can tell you're not very...accustomed...to being this mannerly. If truth be told, I only talk this way because I hang out with too many dimwits who have only half a brain...if any...and spend their money as fast as they can blink! Sometimes being rich isn't all that fun and games. Oh and PLEASE...call me Raye." Raye said, all in one breath.
Serena grinned. She knew she was going to like this woman.
Suddenly an elderly man, dressed in casual blue jeans and a stained white buttoned up shirt walked into the hallway, and blinked as he inspected the newly arrived guest. "Ah...you must be the new nanny my mistress has been rambling for days about. Please, come this way." he said in a melancholy tone, whilst gesturing towards one of the hallways. Arching a brow, Serena looked towards Raye, as she merely laughed and linked her arm with her new nanny. "Congratulations! You've just met Jenkins, my overly stubborn and hot-headed butler."
"He's your butler?" Serena said aghast.
Raye laughed. "People often mistake him as my gardener, since he always does appear to be dirty and the like. But he just doesn't like wearing those...and I quote "flabbergasting suits that will do away a poor, old man's withering state and transform a man into a caviar-eating dimwit".
Serena blinked. "Uh...?"
"Translation...he thinks he'll turn into a gentleman..."
"And...that's bad...?" Serena asked still confused.
"To ol' Jenkins...yes." And with that, they turned a dimly lit hallway, disappearing from Darien's view.

"Hmph...yes, I'll be happy to take care of that level-headed bimbo's suitcases. Thank you for asking so politely ladies." he mumbled beneath his breath. 'Women...what a waste of God's creation..' was his last thought as he trudged up the long, LONG staircase to the guestroom.

"Mrs. Tsukino..." Raye began, but was interrupted as Serena cleared her throat and pronounced proudly, "MS. Tsukino." Raye hid a smile as she merely nodded, "Ms. Tsukino, please meet my daughter, Hotaru."
Serena could only stand there, blinking and watching the child in awe. The child sure wasn't what she had pictured her to be. In her mind she was picturing a snobby brat, with frilly clothing and servants bowing at her feet waiting "anxiously" to do her bidding. Instead, what replaced that imaginary child she had conjured up, was a child who was reading to a few of the kids who looked like they were too young to read.

Clearing her throat, Raye smiled as her daughter finally acknowledge her presence and with a slight giggle, hugged her for all she was worth. Laughing, Raye finally released her daughter and turned her daughter around to face her new nanny. "Hotaru...this is Serena Tsukino...you're new nanny. I trust you will treat her as an honored guest and make her feel at home."
Hotaru nodded solemnly. "Does this mean you'll be away on a business trip again?"
Raye grinned. "Well that's the beauty of it...I'm staying here. Unless...you want me to leave." Raye pouted and gave a lil wink to Serena who just watched on with a little smile.
Hotaru merely "hmphed" and crossed her arms to her chest. "Well...if your staying, then why must I have a nanny?"
Stooping down, and laying her hands on her knees, Raye smiled. "Because I'll be cooped up in my office upstairs doing nothing but signing paper works and making some important phone calls. And I won't be able to spend as much time with you and watch over you as I would like."
Hotaru sighed. "I knew there was going to be a catch..."
Raye laughed. "Why don't you show Ms. Tsukino to her room? I believe these children's parents are waiting to pick them up."
Hotaru sighed and nodded. "Follow me, Ms. Tsukino.."

As they walked back to the main entrance, Serena looked at the child with a heightened curiosity. As if sensing her stare, Hotaru sighed and turned around. "Yes?"
Serena smiled softly. "Oh nothing. It's just that..well..to be frank, you're not how I pictured you to be."
At this Hotaru giggled. "Let me guess. You thought that I was some selfish brat, who got everything she ever wanted in life and more, with servants on their knees waiting for me to give them orders?"
Serena didn't blink. Instead she chuckled. "Hotaru...I'm afraid I'm starting to grow a liking towards you."
Hotaru merely cocked her head to the side. "Do you not like children?"
Serena sighed. "Well..the fat ones could be chewy and the little ones are a bit bony, I'm afraid."
Hotaru laughed. "I'm afraid I'm beginning to grow a liking towards you as well, Ms. Tsukino."
"Please.." Serena said with a slight wince. "Call me Serena."
Hotaru smiled..knowing that she had made her first and only friend. "Serena, I like that name. I think I know what room I'm going to put you in." Hotaru said with a slight twinkle in her big, innocent violet orbs. As she began to ascend the long staircase, Serena began to wonder if she really did see that mischievous glint in the child's eyes. But shrugging her shoulders, she decided to cast that thought away as she followed her.

Serena was never the one to care about her surroundings. Her apartment was pretty bare and dull to say the least. With a black couch, black bed sheets, black pillows, all in all..gloomy and obscured. If it were up to her, she definitely wouldn't have chosen this room of all rooms. But seeing as to how Hotaru seemed to smile with pride and joy upon showing her the bedroom..as well as choosing it for her she could do nothing by smile. Serena didn't want to hurt the poor child's feelings. If word got out at the agency that THE Serena Tsukino had gone soft...well..it wouldn't be a pretty sight. "It's..well..different." Serena said, not knowing how to compliment someone's nice gesture towards her. Hotaru arched a brow. "You hate it.." she said. Not a question..more like a statement.

Serena sucked in her breathe, and forced a smile. Kneeling on one knee she smiled reassuringly at the girl. "I love it."
Hotaru's violet eyes seemed to light up a little as a smile tugged on the corner of her lips. "Really?"
Serena nodded her head. "Really."
"Great! Then I'll meet you downstairs. Dinner will be ready in an hour. I think mother would love if it you dressed nicely." And with that, she scurried down the long hallway.
Serena sighed. 'What had she gotten herself into this time?'

Looking around the room, she had to admit, if only to herself, that it wasn't THAT bad. It was a bit too feminine for her taste...but other than that..it wasn't too shabby. The white canopy bed, with its solid oak headboard which displayed intricate designs of a budding flower, was a bit too much. Along with its fluffy white and beige pillows, white and beige bed sheet, and *surprise surprise* white and beige comforter. She would've thought that the child would've had a bit more taste when it came to picking a guest her room. But she did have to admit that the balcony added a nice touch to the room, with its swaying semi-transparent white curtain swaying in the breeze of the open glass doors leading towards the balcony. Walking towards it, Serena felt contented and carefree. It had been a while since she actually felt this way, and well, if truth be told, it felt marvelous. She was interrupted, much to her distaste, by a firm tap on her door. Turning around, she wasn't in the least waylaid seeing the handsome bodyguard leaning against the threshold with her luggage laying next to his crossed feet. "You're in the wrong room Nanny babe. The guestroom is all the way on the west wing, and I think you'll like it more than this room."
Serena snorted. "This room will do fine Mr. ..." she stopped..finally realizing that they were never properly introduced. "Darien Shields...and you're Serena Tsukino...yeah yeah yeah...Now that acquaintances have been shared..I MUST insist that you go to your proper room."
Serena hmphed as she crossed her arms to her chest, a look of triumphant and determination flashing in her huge, innocent sky blue eyes. Holding her chin up she grinned, "Well..Hotaru happened to have had shown me to this room. And I will not move to another room when this room will suit me just fine."
Darien muttered a curse beneath his breath as he pushed himself up from his leaning form, and glowered. With a shrug he smirked. "Well..suit yourself then. If you need anything, my room is RIGHT NEXT to yours." With a slight chuckle he left.
Yup. Serena won alright. She was victorious and had conquered. She always got what she wanted.
But...this wasn't the case. The "All-Hail-Ms.-Tsukino" was for the first time in her life...beaten. His room was right next to her's. His room was next to her's. His God-Damned room was next to her's!!
She mumbled as she slumped down onto the bed. Now she KNEW she really DID see that mischievous glint in Hotaru's eyes. "She had this all planned out..." she whispered to herself. She had to smile at that. The child had spunk. But unfortunately...the bodyguard might be her undoing.

~*~

Darien on the other hand, had the same thought going through his head. He knew for a fact that he wasn't going to get any sleep that night. With a slight shake of his head..he sighed. The sooner he got this case solved, the better.

~*~

An hour later, Darien, Raye, and Hotaru were found seated at the long, wooden dinner table. Darien in a dashing black and white suit, his hair combed back save of the stray wisps of hair that irritatingly got in the way of his icy, blue eyes; Hotaru dressed in a cute violet dress; and Raye in an impressive red strapless dress made from the all to known Pierre. Looking at the huge, grandfather clock, with its diamond hands and numbers made of expensive rubies, Darien sighed.
'Where the hell is that woman?'
Drumming his fingertips on the cherry wooded dining table, he grumbled.
Raye merely arched a fine brow as she hid a smile.
Darien was about to stand up, march up to her room, and demand that she hurry up so that HE could actually eat.
Just as he was about to do just that, with his chair pushed back, and a determined look plastered on his face, he saw HER. He brushed aside the temptation to rub his eyes, seeing if he really WAS seeing her. With the way she had dressed earlier on that day, he wouldn't of had guessed that she had the most curvaceous body his eyes had ever sat on. And mind you, he HAS seen many women with beautiful bodies, but compared to her, she definitely didn't have to worry about competition.
She displayed a simple white, turtle-neck shirt, with sleeve that stopped right above her shoulders. Her short, black skirt with its modest slip hid the upper part of his legs, which did dishearten Darien. But the endless, creamy, FLAWLESS legs that left little to a man's imagination did please him. Her hair was pulled up into two buns...which to him almost looked like the meatballs her was about to eat on his plate. He stiffled a chuckle. If he had blurted that out, he was positive that he would end up in a grave or worse...in a grave in PIECES. But, nevertheless, the hairstyle suited her for some unknown reason. It seemed that the hairstyle was meant for her..and just her..since she was probably the only woman alive who could pull off a hairstyle like that and STILL look ravishing. Damn..she was beautiful. Of course, he wasn't going to admit that to her anytime soon, as he finally noticed that his jaw was "kinda" dropping, and if he didn't look away at any moment he would surely start drooling.
Serena, nonetheless, didn't notice any of this, as she blushed to the fact that she was not only dressed so unbelievably..uh..."UnSerenaLike", but also she had been more than fashionably late. She was always known for her punctuality. What made her want to wear such an OUTRAGEOUS outfit was beyond her. But those little, nagging little voices were telling her just what she had feared. She wanted to look good for that ignorant jerk.
She sighed as she took her seat beside Raye, and smiled at Hotaru who seemed to smirk..as if she knew something she didn't. She refused to look at the man she had gotten all dressed for, as she sheepishly eyed her food. Upon seeing the food, however, she relaxed and smiled. Digging in, she stuffed her mouth with pork and grinned. At this, the tension in the room seemed to dissipate as everyone dug in as well. Darien couldn't help but grin. This girl could eat!
Mumbling something beneath his breath, he made a mental-note to call his boss, Luna, and demand that she assign him another case. Before he did the most unimaginable...and fall in love.
