The Beauty of the Dreaming Wood
By: Marion Jonson
Beauty, the herion of the play, is trapped inside of her own dream.  She must learn to grow up in order to be freed from the evil spell.  She is joined by two fairies, Satania (the evil fairy) and McGee (the good fairy.)
Beauty: Yes, I am afraid.  But it doesn't matter.  (She kneels and gently picks up the salamander.  With a furious exclamation, SATANIA whips around and exits, beating her wand against her hand as she goes.  BEAUTY stands for a moment holding the salamander, stroking his back.  There is a sharp harp run and she looks up in delight.) McGee!  Look... He is wagging his tail!  He is alive.. and all well again!  I reached out to him and made him all right.  And it was real this time... and important!  I don't need to dream anymore!  Not even of things as I thought they were.  I want to wake up!  To the things that are real.  To Honore... and all the things we have to do! (Her face alights, she turns towards the shadows.) Honore!  Honore!  (Her hand out as if to reach him in the shadows.) Honore... come back!  I'm growing up! (There is a low roll of drums, the music grows threating.  BEAUTY in momentary panic as the shadows seem to grow and out of them trees begin to move, closing in.) McGee!  What if Honore can't.... can't get through the forest?
