Origin: Thailand and Malaysia.

Blooming Season: Spring and sometimes in the fall

Light: Bright, 1800fc-2500fc

Temperature: Intermediate to warm. Minimal winter temperature of 15-16 degrees C(58-60 degrees F) and summer highs of 31-32 degrees C (88-90 degrees F) suit this plant well.

Water: During the growth period (spring and summer) water and then let the plant just about get dry before watering again. After new gets mature lat the plant get dry until spring.

Growing Media: A good growing mix for this plant is 1 part sphagnum peat, 1 part loam, 1 part clean sharp sand.

Fertilizer: Feed weekly a balanced mixture such as 18-18-18(1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon fertilizer to a gallon of water).

Pots: Use plastic or clay pots with good drainage.

Notes: Flowers are long lasting and 1 inch or larger in size. Pseudobulbs are leafless. Repot when new growth is just seen. The plant is available from Oak Hill Gardens. Photo courtesy of Jay Pfahl.

Tip of the month

If you have a problem with bud drop, watering with cold water may be the cause. May also be caused by ethylene gas contamination. Use water that is room temperature or a little above (70 degrees F). Check heating system and have no ripening fruit or decaying plant material in the area.

Meetings and Show Dates

Meetings are held the 3rd Saturday of each month at 7:30pm in the Missouri room at the Missouri Botanical Garden.
There are no meetings in July or August.
Yearly memberships are $7.50 single and $10.00 family and may be paid at monthly meetings or send a check, made payable to Mo Orchid Society, to :
